Wallenberg: The Man Who Knew Too Much?

by Edward Spannaus

The issue of the New York Times Magazine which featured the case of Raoul Wallenberg as its cover story. The latest cause clbre among intelligence-agency liberal and Zionist circles which previously championed the Sakharov case is the case of Raoul Wallenberg, featured in a major article in the March 30 New York Times Magazine as "The Lost Hero of the Holocaust." Raoul Wallenberg, a scion of one of Sweden's most powerful families, was sent by the Swedish government to Hungary in 1944 to organize rescue

operations for Hungarian Jews who were being deported to Auschwitz and exterminated by the Nazis. Wallenberg was responsible for saving the lives of thousands of Jews in Budapest; he disappeared shortly after the Soviet Army liberated Hungary in January 1945. According to the "Free Raoul Wallenberg Committee," which is holding an international hearing in Stockholm on May 2-3, Wallenberg is said to have been captured by the Soviets in 1945 and may still be alive as a Soviet prisoner today. Among those backing the Wallenberg inquiry are such notable U.S. spokesmen for British and Israeli policy as Senators Claiborne Pell, Frank Church, and Patrick Moynihan, various British Parliamentarians directly, and the fake Nazi-hunter, Simon Wiesenthal. Kastner's Agreement But apart from this unsavory cast of characters, the most suggestive feature of the Wallenberg case is the part of the story which remains unmentioned: Wallenberg was not only opposing the Nazis in Hungary, but he was also fighting the official Zionist leadership in Budapest which was assisting and enabling the Nazi S.S. to carry out the deportation and extermination of 800,000 Hungarian Jews. The reason that it was necessary for Wallenberg and a handful of others to conduct isolated rescue operations in Hungary was that the Jews of Hungary were led to the slaughter by their own leadershipand in particular by the notorious Dr. Rudolph Kastner, chairman of the Zionist Organization in Hungary. As Adolph Eichmann later said, he relied upon Jewish political officials and especially Kastner to enable him to carry out Himmler's directive to ship all the Jews out of Hungary. Kastner "agreed to keep the Jews from resisting deportation and even keep order in the collection campsif I would close my eyes and let a few hundred or a few thousand Jews emigrate illegally to Palestine. It was a good bargain," wrote Eichmann. In keeping with the Zionist policy of saving an "elite" of European Jewry for Israel, and allowing the masses of Jews to be killed, the Zionist leadership in Hungary knowingly and deliberately collaborated with the Nazis in "keeping order" in the Jewish ghetto in Budapest and elsewhere. Ben Hecht, in his suppressed book Perfidy, describes one exception to this and the role played by Wallenberg:

"During . . . Budapest's slaughter summer (1944), the Jewish Agency factotums of Palestine sit. They sit until the Jews of Hungary are done in and destroyed. Their tongues and right arms remain useless, pledged to the Nazis in Budapest and the British in Jerusalem. "Only one exception to the do-nothing, say-nothing policy of official Zionismreligious Zionist Moshe Kraus, who left the Jewish AgencyZionist Party line and its ranks of 'rescuers,' and almost single-handed, raised a fairly audible outcry. Heroic Moshe Kraus enlisted the support of the Swiss consul in Budapest, Charles Lutz, the Swedish representative, Raoul Valenberg (sic), and representatives of several South American countries. He headed up an Underground that turned the city's basements into hideaways, and outwitting the Nazi and Hungarian killers, saved forty thousand Jews." What Wallenberg Knew Raoul Wallenberg was one of the few outsiders who knew first-hand the full, filthy story of how Kastner and the Zionists cooperated with the Nazi killers in Hungary. It is a story which the Zionist leadership and the Israeli state have gone to every lengthincluding assassinationto cover up. While one can only speculate as to what motives the Soviets might have had for imprisoning or killing Wallenberg, it is obvious that the Zionists had every reason in the world to want to prevent Wallenberg from remaining around to tell the world his shocking and incriminating stories. As for Kastner, his own affidavit submitted at Nuremberg in defense of General Kurt Becher, Himmler's assistant who was the head of the "Economic Department" of the S.S., speaks volumes: "I, the undersigned, Dr. Rudolph Kastner, wish to make the following statement. . . . "Having been in personal contact with Becher from June, 1944, to April, 1945, 1 should like to emphasize, on the basis of personal observations, that Kurt Becher did everything within the realm of possibilities to save innocent human beings from the blind fury of the Nazi leaders. . . . I never doubted for one moment the good intentions of Kurt Becher. . . . "In my opinion, when his case is judged by Allied or German authorities, Kurt Becher deserves the fullest possible consideration. . . .

"I make this statement not only in my name but also in behalf of the Jewish Agency and the Jewish World Congress." (Signed) Dr. Rudolph Kastner, Official Jewish Agency in Geneva. Forhter Chairman of Zionist Organization in Hungary, 1943-45, representative of Joint Distribution Committee in Budapest. Raoul Wallenberg, in Hungary from July 1944 to January 1945, knew the full horrifying story of the complicity of Kastner and the Zionists with the Nazi genocide operation. The Jews that he was rescuing were the same Jews that were being deluded by Kastner and the official Jewish leadership into being herded submissively to Auschwitz. Can the Free Raoul Wallenberg Committee really hope to investigate the disappearance of Wallenberg without going into this side of the story?
