8:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. Event Registration and Information Station Opening: The Case for Financial Inclusion Now Diana Taylor and Mike Corbat launch the Forum with a discussion of the trends, commitments and incentives that put full financial inclusion by 2020 within our reach. The ensuing panel discussion will focus on new markets for financial services, with an emphasis on insurance. Mapping the Invisible Market Elisabeth Rhyne presents findings from the Center for Financial Inclusions Mapping the Invisible Market research, drawing on demographic and income trends to highlight the opportunities that exist for financial inclusion. Following an audience Q&A, policymakers and private sector leaders will consider the impact of these findings on their work. Confirmed Speakers: Shamshad Akhtar (Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development, United Nations), Gregory Keough (CEO, Mobile Financial Services), Michel Losembe (CEO of Banque Internationale pour LAfrique du Congo (BIAC), President of the Association of Congolese Banks), Elisabeth Rhyne (Managing Director, Center for Financial Inclusion) Why Financial Inclusion is More Important Than We Ever Knew Sendhil Mullainathan discusses the behavioral economics of poverty and presents findings from his newly-released book, Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much, which has surprising implications for how financial inclusion can fundamentally transform the unfortunate logic of poverty. Panelists will then reflect on ways to understand and design for the needs of new customers. Both will take questions from the audience following their conversation. After, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Kamal Quadir look at the obstacles to reaching customers at the base of the pyramid and ways those obstacles can be overcome. Bob Annibale closes the session. 7:30 a.m. 8:00 p.m. Event Registration and Information Station Building a Roadmap to Financial Inclusion Cherie Blair discusses why financial inclusion matters and presents highlights from the Roadmap, with live polling of the audience on the priorities, impacts and challenges of the Roadmap principles. A panel of private and public sector experts then considers how these recommendations relate to initiatives by the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion, the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, the World Economic Forum, and others. (One roundtable session will be conducted in Spanish.) Plated Lunch 12:30 p.m. 2:00 p.m. The 2013 MicroScope on the Microfinance Business Environment is announced by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the InterAmerican Development Bank, Citi, CAF and Accion. Balancing Access & Protection: Lessons Learned from Peru Peru is widely recognized as a leader in financial inclusion, with policymakers and providers actively innovating to implement financial inclusion. This plenary session will apply the FI2020 Roadmap principles to Peruvian financial inclusion efforts to date and identify both challenges and success on the ground. Thought leaders from the public and private sectors focus on ways to increase access for all and on value for customers. These concurrent sessions, which will inform the ongoing development and global implementation of the Roadmaps, include: United States and the United Kingdom: Applied behavioral insights. 8:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. Special Focus Meeting: Financial Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities An expert panel will discuss the economic impact of inaccessible solutions, how it affects us all, and what is being done globally to close the accessibility gap. Leaders will focus on the importance of collaboration between financial service providers, ICT providers and persons with disabilities to achieve financial inclusion for all. Launch of the EIU MicroScope: This panel will present the findings of the 2013 Global MicroScope on the Microfinance Business Environment, which evaluates and benchmarks 55 countries on the regulatory and business environment for microfinance. The panel will discuss how the MicroScope's findings will affect financial inclusion. (Open to FI2020 Global Forum guests and the public.) 2:00 p.m. 3:30 p.m. Financial Capability: Moving the Roadmap to Action Jasmine Thomas of Citi Foundation will lead an interactive session on financial capability.
