Basic guide-lines for any lover of good quality live-music & food.

I honestly hope that this little booklet will be of aid to the many music and
live-lovers out there . It 's purpose is to clear-up some forgotten and/or foggy
patches of the art of creating live-music on the spot
Our species has only just begun to 'really' develop our common skills in
communication .
Jam-sessions are of great importance to develop these skills , as well as the
integration of different cultures and the making of new progressive music . Not to
mention the joy they can provide when done right .
Short-minded international economic influences within the music-industry as well
as the many fears and hang-up's on local and national levels , have participated
in turning most modern-day jam-sessions into shallow jokes. Not nearly as creative
as we could be!
WHAT WENT WRONG ?
I will try to analyze this from my own experience as follows ;
whatever you as a reader find to be of purpose ;
only pleases my effort .
1/How did jamming start any-way ?
history and the actual thing.
2/evolutionary processes in music-Industry .
3/international & cultural integration .
4/Ego’s and complimentary dynamics.
5/From personal experience drawn .
6/Entertainment in general.
7/Fascinations in oscillation.
8/lead-entertainers and their tools.
9/Review of basic guide-lines.

1/ Well how did creative music-making start ?

The big-Bang BAAAA,……..AAAUUUMMM (OHM)!?
A bunch of people beating on tree-trunks whilst chanting to their ancestors ?
A slave-Negro playing a single steel-string on the side of a wooden-cabin ? The
trumpets that brought down the walls of Jericho ?
A minstrel singing about the tails of the land at a castle in the 15th century.
Or maybe all of the above ,... and more ? what we do know is ,........
that it is almost as normal to us as eating ,
or breathing for that matter .
We need music after a hard days work, when we talk and sing of our hopes & fears .
According to my point of view , it all started when we 'consciously' started
dealing with our individual and collective feelings & emotions .
Feelings & emotions are like the many different ingredients of a good soup . Each
emotion needs to individually be recognized.
Too little of some and the soup will be without real taste.
Too much of the other and the soup will be ruined beyond repair .
To find the right balance of in-put we will have to learn about all the different
ingredients and learn to appreciate their various tastes and how they affect each-
other.
..................................................................................
......
When to let the soup simmer or when to raise the flame .
The drum-beat can be the bones from which we draw...
The green-leaves the guitarcords ..................................
the bass can be the cabbage and carrots, whilst the ........
herbs , salt and pepper can be the different vocal-parts and ,......
the director is the chief - cook over the whole ensemble .
However before we get down jamming we need to prepare the MIS-en-PLACE .
The miss-en-place (to put in place or prepare) has to pre-cede any real active
music making .
It is not just the tuning of the instruments , it is also the understanding of
hierarchy within any given context (song) as well as the dynamics needed for that
particular piece .
Be aware of the flavors YOU are adding to the soup and ‘contribute’, don’t
overtake.
A new soup is being created every time we play , therefore we need to be aware and
awake;………… ALL THE TIME !
Many of you will have noticed the lack-off mutual respect and hierarchy on many
sessions un-less there is a good session-leader that keeps all in their respective
place.
On most sessions however there is no real stage management.
Because of this lack of rules and respect the music is quickly de-valuated and
becomes but a cover-song re-run.
For any jam-session to become ' good ', the participants have to become a
complimentary working unit.
