School Canteen Issues

Our school canteen is perhaps the busiest place in the school. It is the place where almost every student is expected to pay at least one or two visits a day, and that not just to have a taste of some delicacies, but also to brush him or herself up with the latest information, real or based on some rumour. Thus there is a free and frank discussion of fashion of various boys and girls and teaching habits of different teachers. Sometimes, discussion can centre on some political or economic matter also. Particularly, the senior students may discuss some new world development or new government policy on some matter.

The primary aim of the canteen is to cater food to the teachers as well as the students. To fulfil this aim, our school canteen is well-equipped. There are separate cabins for teachers, boys and girls. The teachers sit separately in their cabin which is their faculty room, but the boys and girls often mix up and sit together in their cabins. But what do our canteen serves, is it changed every day? , is it healthy for us students and teachers? According to our canteen staffs they serve healthy foods as much as possible and all dishes are cooked at home and not serve the other day and juices are made up of mineral water. Now thats what you call safe.

What are the problems of our canteen? A lot of students complain about the price of the delicacies because it is too pricey, that we students can't afford because of our small allowances. Students are responsible and some are irresponsible in using the canteen utensils, plates and bowls most of the students just leaves their used utensils and plates they don't practice the "Clean as You Go" policy but we appreciate that there are still some students who practice this. The Canteen staffs complaint is that students are not responsible in returning their utensils. Teachers and students also recommend a more spacious venue for our canteen because most of the time it is crowded. There are also various experiences and complaints from students who encounter their selling of spoiled food.

Our group thought of suggestions and opinions, we suggested that they should lessen the price suitable for students and our group hopes that sooner or later this will be granted. We are looking forward for improvement of food varieties and its health benefits. For the "Clean as You Go" policy in our canteen we should all have initiatives to follow the said policy its not for our own good only but for the good of Trinity University of Asia.
