Sanford Fargo Medical Center

ur journey to build the new Fargo Medical Center, that will provide absolute exemplary care, and make a difference in the lives of patients, staff and our greater community for generations, continues. The vision began in 1999, when MeritCare had the foresight to purchase 109 expansive acres of land to someday build, and with the opportunity to later grow, an exceptional medical center. In 2009, during the merger between MeritCare and Sanford Health, Kelby Krabbenhoft, president and CEO of Sanford Health, met with Dr. Roger Gilbertson, who was retiring as MeritCares president and CEO of 17 years. Together, they formed initial plans to build. In the summer of 2012, we broke ground. It was a memorable celebration with 15,000 Sanford Health team members, family members and honored guests. North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple said that evening, Someday, we will all say we were here the night this incredible facility was started. It is truly a carefully planned journey focused on putting patients first and being dedicated to health and healing. And now, we are excited to share the final design plans for the new Fargo Medical Center. As you can see, this will be a spectacular medical center. It features the Sanford Health classic collegiate gothic architectural style establishing our century-long commitment to the people of eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota. We are privileged to be associated with a legacy project of this magnitude. The amount of time to plan and build this hospital is staggering. Our progress is only possible with the expertise of our business partners, including HKS, Inc.-JLG Architects, our architect/designer; Mortenson Norson, our construction manager; Lightowler Johnson Associates, Inc., our civil engineer; and Northern Technologies, Inc., our soil engineer. They, along with valued and skilled local business partners, are creating an incredible landmark for 100 years to come. Its also important to remember that, in addition to the architects and building experts, Sanford Health physicians, nurses, administration, support staff and community members are contributing their time to the design process. In fact, groups are thoroughly inspecting patient room layouts with the goal of rooms being standardized. This promotes fiscal responsibility, provides consistency in patient care and ensures flexibility for the future. Thank you for taking a moment to learn more about our developing plans for how we will continue to deliver the best health care for our communities. Looking ahead, be sure to go to the new Fargo Medical Center web page (sanfordhealth.org/fargomedicalcenter) to keep informed on the progress made and to watch the live webcam of the construction progress.
