Kort Nozzles

Examples of suitable ship types:

Tugs, push boats, supply vessels, fishing vessels,
research vessels, specialized ships and many more

Advantages:

• Increased bollard pull

• Increased thrust
• Better propulsion efficiency
• Better steerage capacity
• Reduced vibrations
• Protection of propeller against damage
• Reduced operation costs – fuel saving

Where are nozzles used? Why are nozzles used?

Generally, Kort Nozzles can be designed and supplied • For superior propulsion and increased thrust
for all types of vessel, but are particularly suited for the • Protective safety device for propeller
following ship types:
• Pitch-quenching at sea
• Tugs and pusher tugs • 10 % greater efficiency using specially
• Fishing vessels designed nozzles

• Research vessels • Reduction of vibrations

• Supply vessels and special ships • Increased side forces and side thrust with
Kort Steering Nozzles, fitted with Becker Flap
• Dredger and cable - laying vessels
• Reduced turning circles
• Inland-water vessels
• Safety in ice
• Vessels with full aft-end forms
• Superior astern manoeuvrabilty

Special nozzles with Becker “Y” profile

Used for inland water vessels, restricted draught
vessels and vessels with full aft-end forms. An
increased nozzle entrance diameter allows greater
water flow through the nozzle, thereby improving
propulsive efficiency and thrust by up to 5 - 7 %. This
results in power and fuel consumption savings and
consequently an operational cost reduction!

Kort Steering Nozzles

All - suspended or free hanging. Kort Steering Nozzles
are generally used on vessels with restricted aft end
space, and are used in lieu of a conventional rudder
arrangement. Additionally, steering nozzles with
moveable flaps reduce vibrations and increase the
manoeuvrability of the vessel. "ODOEVSK", sister-vessel of "AURIGA", undergoing general
