Pregnancy vomiting

This is a complication in pregnant women, including nausea, vomiting, dizziness and


anorexia; vomiting may occur fight after eating.

Differential diagnosis: Patients with stomach deficiency may suffer from fullness
and distension of upper abdomen, nausea, vomiting of food fight after eating, mental
fatigue and sleepiness, pale tongue with white coating, and moderate, rolling and
weak pulse. Patients with heat pathogens in liver may suffer from distension and pain
in chest and flank, vomiting of bitter or sour fluid, belching, sighing, distension of
head and dizziness, mental depression, thin and yellow tongue coating, and wiry and
rolling pulse. And patients with accumulation of phlegm may suffer from vomiting of
sputum and saliva, chest distress, poor appetite, heart palpitations, shortness of breath,
tastelessness in mouth, white and greasy tongue coating, and rolling pulse.

Treatment:

Foot massage: The massage is applied to pituitary gland (4) kidney (22), ureter (23),
urinary bladder (24), thyroid gland (12), adrenal gland (21) and uterus (50) reflecting
areas. The foot is held by the. physician with one hand and the
knuckle of the first interphalangeal joint of the other flexed index finger is used to
apply massage to reflecting areas 3-4 times (Fig. 83).

Foot acupuncture:

(1) Meridianal acupoints: At Neiting (ST 44), Qiuxu (GB 44), Taichong (LR 3) and
Gongsun (SP 4) acupoints, a reinforcing technique with moxibustion is applied for
patients with stomach deficiency and a reducing technique is applied to patients with
heat pathogens in liver or accumulation of phlegm. The needles are retained for 15 to
20 minutes, and moxibustion is applied for 15 minutes.
(2) Extra acupoints: At Duyin (EX-F 17), Neihuai Qianxia (EX-F1) and Nuxi (EX-F 6)
acupoints, a reinforcing technique of acupuncture with moxibustion is applied to
patients of the deficient cold type, and a reducing technique is applied to patients of
the excessive heat type or with blockage of phlegm and dampness. The needles are
retained for 15 to 20 minutes and moxibustion is applied for 15 minutes.
(3) Foot acupoint: A reinforcing acupuncture technique with moxibustion is applied at
Stomach (FA-P 8) acupoint for patients of the deficient cold type, and a reducing
technique without moxibustion is applied at this acupoint for patients of the excessive
heat type or with blockage of phlegm and dampness. The needles are retained for 15
to 20 minutes, and moxibustion is applied for 15 minutes.
