Word Count: 499 Process Paper Mao Zedong is responsible for transforming the China, stricken by imperialism and

poverty, into the classless, unified society that gave equal rights to the Chinese; however, with the persecution and the deaths of millions due to corrupt politics, leaps in production and the Cultural Revolution, Mao is also the source for the unstable foundation of China today. Our NHD topic concerns the responsibilities of Mao Zedong and the rights of Chinese citizens during Chinas communist rule. We chose Mao Zedong as our topic due to the great Chinese influence in Hawaii. Living in proximity with local Chinese, inquisition drove us to research the history of contemporary China. Sources were found at the local public library and internet archives. In addition to research centers, we have also received the comments and perspectives of those of our churchs Japanese congregation. Members faced the impacts of Japanese imperialism and Chinese Civil war. Problems encountered during research included being unable to locate translated primary sources. We overcame this issue by finding alternative sources that presented a compilation of translated primary works. Most useful, was an extensive secondary source book that elaborated upon Mao Zedongs role in Chinas 20th Century. An overview of events throughout the Mao years enabled us to select key events for a further in-depth analysis as well as to develop a better organization scheme. As we conducted research, we discovered that certain aspects were more significant than others. Constant subtopic change was necessary to better relate my thesis and the drive of our argument.

In creating the website display, we first began to title and establish pages for the organization of the website. With specific subtopics and categories by chronological order, we began inserting textual content into each page. Quotes, pictures and multimedia files were then used to supplement each page. Along with finalizing proper citation and hyperlink usage, we modified the layout several times for a better aesthetic effect. Problems encountered in creating the project included being able to access multimedia files. Multimedia files of specific events were difficult to locate and were found in incompatible formats. Majority of those problems were solved using a Mozilla Firefox add-on which converted most multimedia formats. Mao Zedong and Chinese Communism relates to the NHD theme due to its great significance in terms of the condition of citizens. As dictator, Mao Zedong inherits the responsibility of leading China out of its poverty and foreign imperialism; however, Maos greed for power and authority ultimately violates the rights of millions for more than a quarter century. Mao and Chinas communist past is an important subject to study as it enables us to thoroughly analyze the nature of China today. As an economic superpower, we can only expect China to continue profiteering off of an unstable and corrupt base established by Mao. Mao Zedong withheld the rights of citizens for decades and degraded Chinas standing in the 20th Century. Unification through a corrupt moral base initiated the fragility of the economic superpower today.
