Door trim panel removed - Unclip speaker cover. - Remove screws and lift door tray upward out of openings (arrows).

Front door trim panel, removing


- Remove lock knob. - Remove two grab handle attachment screws -1- and remove grab handle from door trim panel -2-. - Slide spacer ring between window crank and door panel in direction of arrow and then remove window crank. - Using both hands, place fingers behind outside remote rear-view mirror control knob and pull toward you to remove knob. - Pull inside door latch release lever trim piece straight out, bottom first then top. - Remove top Phillips-head screw (in front of inside door release lever housing) for outside remote rear-view mirror control housing and door trim panel. - Remove six Phillips-head door trim panel attachment screws around outer edge of door panel.

- Separate door panel from trim piece at top of door panel starting from either end, not both. CAUTION! DO NOT pull hard, this will cause door panel to break! Note: If door panel will not separate using moderate force, try moving the bottom of the door panel in and out while pulling out of door panel. - Disconnect electrical connector for speaker. - Disconnect electrical connector for anti-theft alarm system (driver's door only).

Window crank, removing and installing


Removing - Slide spacer -1- in direction of arrow (retaining clip will be unlocked) and pull window crank off drive. Installing The illustration shows the left window crank (right window crank is opposite). - Clip window crank on drive in locked position.

Vapor barrier, replacing

The purpose of vapor barrier is to seal off the passenger compartment from noise, water penetration and drafts. The replacement vapor barrier is supplied with self-adhesive surfaces. Vapor barrier must always be installed carefully and without creases. When it is replaced, the mating surfaces on the door must be cleaned and the new vapor barrier installed from top to bottom without any creases. If adhesion is insufficient, use double-sided adhesive tape AKL 434 019 25 or AKL 440 025. Adhesive surface: shaded area CAUTION! Part numbers are listed for reference only. Always check with your Parts department for the latest information.

Removing vapor barrier - Remove inside door release housing by pulling release tab on bottom rear of housing toward you and sliding housing forward. - Remove vapor barrier starting from either top edge. CAUTION! Avoid tearing the vapor barrier. If torn, the vapor barrier will need to be replaced.

- Using razor blade, carefully cut vapor barrier around trim panel securing clip retainers. Note: Scratches in paint caused by cutting the vapor barrier must be repaired with touch up paint to prevent corrosion. - Pull vapor barrier down only as far as needed. CAUTION! DO NOT remove the vapor barrier completely. This will increase the chances of a water leak.

During reinstallation of the vapor barrier, there MUST NOT be any wrinkles in the barrier where it contacts the adhesive. This will cause water to leak onto the door panel and into the vehicle.

Vapor barrier, replacing 01.94


The purpose of vapor barrier is to seal off the passenger compartment from noise, water penetration and drafts. The vapor barrier can be released and re-attached up to 4 times, without using additional adhesive, providing the barrier is undamaged. Replacement vapor barrier 02.95 is supplied with self-adhesive strip 03.95 is supplied without adhesive strip. Bond this replacement barrier with adhesive D 469 101 A3. - Take off clip upper part -1- (arrow). - Press clip lower part -2- off door using pliers 3392. Note:

Check clip lower part for damage and replace if necessary.

- Press securing clip out of hole in door inner panel. - Press remote control in forward direction out of the securing holes.

- Pull vapor barrier off, all along edge in sections (each section approx. 15 cm or 9/16 in.). Grasp vapor barrier as close to adhesive as possible (shaded area).

Installing - When replacing vapor barrier remove remaining adhesive -2- from door. To do this, pull a small amount from door and form a ball. Pull remaining adhesive off door using ball -1- (dabbing action) (self-bonding of adhesive is greater than bonding action to door). Replacement part - vapor barrier 02.95

- Pass electrical wiring connectors (window regulator, speaker and exterior mirror adjustment) and operating rods, through vapor barrier and pull adhesive material protective strip off. - Align vapor barrier, according to securing clip installation holes, and press on. - Press vapor barrier -1- adhesive area (shaded area) on to door using roller 3356. - Check that vapor barrier is securely bonded to door (especially lower section).

Replacement part - vapor barrier 03.95 - Apply adhesive D 469 101 A3 (adhesive bead of approx. 5 mm or 3/16 in. diameter) to around edge of vapor barrier -1- (shaded area) using cartridge pistol VAG1628. CAUTION! Part numbers are listed for reference only. Always check with your Parts department for the latest information. - Pass electrical wiring connectors (window regulator, speaker and exterior mirror adjustment) and operating rods, through vapor barrier and pull adhesive material protective strip off. - Align vapor barrier, according to securing clip installation holes, and press on. - Press vapor barrier -1- adhesive area (shaded area) on to door using roller 3356. - Check that vapor barrier is securely bonded to door (especially lower section).
