More Information: In Alzheimers disease, the connections between brain cells and the brain cells themselves die and degenerate. This causes a declined in memory and mental functions. The cause can be because of a result in gene combination, lifestyle, or environment factors. As more and more brain cells die, this can lead to two types of abnormalities. One of them is tangles, in tangles the brain cells depend on internal support and transport system to carry nutrients and other essentials. In Alzheimers, threads of protein twist into an abnormal tangles inside the brain cells. This leads to failure of the transport system.

THE SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE: FORGETFULNESS. CONFUSION. TROUBLE ORGANIZING THOUGHTS. FORGETTING RECENT EVENTS. MISPLACING OBJECTS. DELUSIONS. SOCIAL WITHDRAWAL. DEPRESSION. MOOD SWINGS. DISTRUST IN OTHERS. BELIEVING SOMETHING WAS STOLEN. REPEATING CERTAIN THINGS OVER AND OVER.

There is neither test nor diagnosis for Alzheimers. The doctor will make a conclusion whether you may have symptoms. The doctor will determine the patients with dementia if the symptoms are due to Alzheimers. Physical exams will be done such as: checking the patients reflexes, muscle tone/strength, the ability to walk across a room, ability to get up from a chair, sense of sight/ hearing, coordination, and balance. Lab test will done, that are going to help the doctor ruled out any potential causes of memory loss and confusion. Mental testing will asses memory and other thinking skills. Brain imaging will help identify visible abnormalities related to any other conditions than Alzheimers. Visible abnormalities include: strokes, trauma, tumors, and any specific brain change. CT scan, MRI, and positron emission tomography (PET) will also be done.
