RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ATHLETE ON THE NATIONAL CANOE & KAYAK TEAM It is the

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ATHLETE

1.

Information To provide information and/or supporting documentation which is true and accurate and which can be verified, on request, when applying to CKC for assistance or through CKC to Sport Canada. To advise the Project Managers and the National Office of any change in status that will affect the amount of financial assistance provided. To advise the National Office immediately of any change of address or program status to ensure the timely receipt information and allowances. To provide biographical data promptly on request. To be familiar with the information provided in the National Team Program for Excellence Handbook and the Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program: Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, Athletes Handbook.

Objectives To identify annually each fall, in cooperation with the athlete's personal coach and the National Team Coaching Staff training and performance objectives for the next competitive season.

Training To adhere to the training program that has been established after consultation with a personal coach and the appropriate National Coach. To provide regular training reports, test results and other information pertinent to the responsible National Coach. To participate in training camps and seminars for the National Team, unless excused in advance by the appropriate National Coach or the HPD.

Competition To participate in competitions and events as directed by the responsible National Coach or the HPD. To support CKC and the member clubs by competing annually at the National Championship Regatta.

Clothing To wear National Team uniform (training suit, travel uniform, etc.) whenever directed to do so by National Team Staff. To wear the appropriate clothing whenever representing the National Team. To maintain National Team clothing for the duration of the period for which it is intended and to replace same at personal expense in the event that it is prematurely lost or discarded. To wear the National Team Podium suit for all official and awards ceremonies.

Good Standing To remain in good standing with CKC, all National Team athletes shall: 6.1 Assume responsibility for all personal debts and/or charges incurred beyond those matters and amounts approved for funding according to the project criteria as approved by the High Performance Committee (HPC), (e.g. training camps, trials, competitions). Pay all outstanding invoices within 30 days of issue by the National Office. Pay interest on all debts outstanding as required. Return all receipts and/or legitimate expense claims to the National Office immediately on the completion of a project. Athletes who do not return ORIGINAL receipts may be held responsible for the cash reimbursement of the actual value of the receipt. Purchase a club membership in a Member club of CKC and a CKC registration prior to the start of the competitive season, (i.e. by April 12th, 2008).

Conduct All National Team athletes shall: 7.1 7.2 7.3 Adhere to those instructions, rules, etc., as issued by National Team Staff during camps, tours, trials, competitions. Conduct oneself as a representative of Canada and the National Canoe Team in a manner which is exemplary. Demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural norms and standards of the host country when visiting foreign countries.

Testing All National Team athletes are required to participate cooperatively in National Team testing and monitoring procedures.

Health Insurance All National Team Athletes must provide evidence that they are covered by a Provincial Health Insurance Plan while out of the country.

Completion of the Letter of Acknowledgement and the Athlete / NSO Agreement To sign and return to the High Performance Director a signed copy of the Letter of Acknowledgement and the Athlete / NSO Agreement which indicates that the athlete has: 10.1 10.2 10.3 Read the Athlete Assistance Program Guide and is aware of its terms and conditions. Read the 2008 CKC National Team Program for Excellence Handbook and is aware of its terms and conditions. Agrees to abide by the contractual obligations contained therein.
