Kuja Dosha and its effects

A simple survey shows that as many as 90% of the people in the Universe will be under the influence of Kuja Dosha. Every one of us, at one time or the other, will hear about Kuja. The word is more prominently heard when horoscopes of the bride and bridegroom are studied before their marriage. Unfortunately, in almost all of the cases, we tend to be very much worried about the presence of the Kuja dosha in the natal charts that we begin to feel that certain things in life, such as marital life for instance, will get disturbed or worse they are deprived of. Before we proceed further, it is important for us to be clear that Kuja is not a matter to be afraid of and it is not the end of the world for them. Matters pertaining to the intensity of the Kuja Dosha and its cancellation play major roles and we shall attempt to study about Kuja, Kuja dosha and various related aspects.

About Kuja
'Kuja' means 'burning coal' or 'a fair person'. Kuja is identified with Lord Kartikeya - the God of War. He is the son of Lord Shiva. Kartikeya was born with six heads. He killed the invincible demon Taraka and released the Devas from Taraka's oppression. These qualities of Kuja depict strength, courage and the protective quality of Kuja. Thus, Kuja is known as the protector of dharma and the purpose in life, which each of us follow. Another notion of Kuja is that 'Ku' stands for 'Earth' and 'Jha' means 'birth'. Hence, Kuja will mean 'the son of Earth'. He is brought up by six Krutika stars resulting with six faces because he is fed by six star mothers. That is reason why he is also called Shanmuka.

Kuja dosha in horoscope

One of the biggest misconceptions and fears in the Hindu society with respect to marriage is the presence of Kuja Dosha in the natal horoscope. Kuja dosha occurs, when Kuja is placed in the ascendant, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the natal chart. However, majority of the astrologers include the 2nd house also in the Kuja dosha list. People in whose natal chart Kuja is placed in the above positions are under the influence of Kuja. Kuja is considered to be a commander-in-chief among all planets. It symbolizes immense courage, aggression, vitality, confidence and warrior qualities. It drives the fire of independent spirit and sense of purpose among individuals.

Notions about Kuja dosha:

Some of the most common misconceptions about the planet Kuja is that if a person is born on a Tuesday, he is said to be dominated by Kuja. This, however is not true. Kuja in his own house or exaltation will considerably reduce the ill effects of the Kuja Dosha. The most famous misconception about being a Kuja is that if he/she is married to a non-Kuja, then the spouse is bound to die. The above can be seen in a few cases, where Kuja is severely afflicted; overall strength of the horoscope also needs to be checked.

Common effects with respect of Kuja in the natal chart

Kuja in the first house - quarrelsome on even minor issues; combative and dominating in relationship. Kuja in the 2nd house - harsh speech.

Kuja in the 4th house - aggressive emotional nature, which may effect the career-front, with frequent changes in profession. Kuja in the 7th house - a lot of energy; differences with family members. Kuja in the 8th house - early death of the mate. Kuja in the 12th - financial losses, many enemies and repressed anger. According to Parasara's Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra, if Kuja is placed in the lagna, 4th, 7th ,8th and 12th houses, without any aspect or conjunction of the benefit planets, then the husband of such a women certainly have an early death. Hence it is understood that if Kuja has an aspect of a benefit or is conjunct with a benefit, then there is no dosha. An exception to this however exists. "If a woman with the widowhood yoga marries a man with a similar yoga of loss of spouse, then such yoga will get cancelled." Hence the second exception given by him is that Kuja Dosha is canceled, if both the girl and the boy have Kuja Dosha.

Exceptions to Kuja dosha

Kuja dosha gets canceled in some special conditions as defined below: When Kuja is in its own sign Mesha, exalted Karkataka or in the houses owned by planets considered to be his friends viz., Ravi, Guru and Chandra. If Kuja is in the 2nd house, but in the signs of Mithuna or Kanya. If Kuja is in the 4th house, but in Mesha If Kuja is in the 7th house, but in Karkataka or Makara. If Kuja is in the 8th house, but in Pisces. If Kuja is in the 12th house, but in Vrushaba or Tula. For Karkataka and Simha lagnas, Kuja is a yoga Karkataka and so no dosha wherever it is placed. For Kumba lagna, if Mars is in the 4th or 8th house. If benefic Guru or Sukra occupies the ascendant. If Kuja is in conjunction or aspected by Guru or Chandra. If Kuja is in conjunction or aspected by Ravi, Budha, Sani or Rahu. Kuja Dosha is considerably reduced, if Sani aspects the houses owned by Kuja, but subject to the other planetary positions in the natal chart. Remember that even if a person has severe Kuja Dosha, after the age of 28, the effects of Kuja Dosha are reduced.

Neutralizing of Mangalik Dosha The effects of the Mangalik Dosha are neutralized in various ways. But here we can mention a few Vedic Astrology Principles. If Mangalik Dosha is found in both the male and the female horoscope the effects of the dosha are neutralized. If Jupiter aspects or conjoins Mars, the effects of the dosha are neutralized. If Mars and Rahu are placed together in the horoscope, the effects of the dosha are neutralized. If Mars is placed in his own house or in exaltation, the effects of the dosha are neutralized. If Mars is placed in 7th house and ascendant lord happens to be Saturn the effects of the dosha are neutralized. If Mars is placed in 8th house and ascendant lord happens to be Venus the effects of the dosha are neutralized. If Mars is placed in 8th house with Jupiter as 8th lord the effects of the dosha are neutralized. If Mars is placed in 12th house with Venus as 12th lord the effects of the dosha are neutralized.

Your Janma Rashi: Libra About Saturn's Sadesati

Saturn (Shani) takes around 30 years to complete one revolution of the zodiac. It stays in each sign for around 2.5 years. Saturn is considered a planet that brings misery and challenges for people when it's in an inauspicious position. The Sadesati is a period of 7.5 years during which Saturn is specially malignant and creates an unusual amount of problems in an individual's life.

The Sadesati begins when Saturn enters the 12th Rashi (sign) from the person's birth Moon-sign and ends when Saturn exits the 2nd sign from the person's birth Moon-sign. It takes about 7.5 years to cross these three signs; hence the name Sadesati.

Everyone goes through Sadesati sooner or later, for most people it's at least twice, or thrice. It is said that while Sadesati lasts, you will have little peace. But don't think that just because you are running Sadesati your life will be destroyed. That's not the case. Many people continue being successful even while they are in Sadesati.

A lot depends on the overall auspiciousness of your chart, the placement of other planets and your own efforts. You can also perform remedies to lessen the inauspicious effect of Shani Sade sati.

You will be under the influence of Shani Sadesati between:

Impact of Saturn's sadesati Phase 1 (in 12th Sign) During this period Saturn transits through the 12th sign, or sign before your Birth Rashi. This is the beginning of the 7.5 years challenge. This may become a challenging time for your entire family. You will be under pressure and may feel anxious about your future due to unforeseen problems. You will feel that trouble is seeking you out and that you get into problems even though you make a serious effort to avoid them. The elders in your family too might have some problems. The problems might be in form of health challenges or financial trouble. You may have to make sudden trips and start on unplanned journeys. That will be a part of your effort to cope with the the problems that Saturn creates for you during this period. You may also run into unforeseen expenses and money supply may be squeezed. Since this is the beginning of the Sadesati, you can't afford to lose courage now. If you become depressed in this period all will be lost. Remember this about Saturn, every crisis

that it sends your way is an opportunity wrapped inside a lot of trouble. Saturn loves those who love challenges. Work agains the tide and you will get ashore. Do not leave any stone unturned to beat your problems. Your efforts will be your salvation. Phase 2 (In Moonsign) During this period Saturn will pass through the Moonsign in which you were born. This is also called Janma-Shani. This is considered the most testing phase of Sadesati. Survive this, and you've overcome the worst that Saturn can throw your way. During this period you may feel intense pressure. You might feel caged, or repressed and just aching to break free and escape. There will be problems in the professional front. Maybe even a job change! In the domestic front too there will be fresh challenges to face. Your relationships with your family will take a beating, and you will be working overtime to maintain the cordiality and love that you've always enjoyed. Pay special attention to your mother and the elder women in your family. On the emotional and psychological front you may feel as if you are in a daze. Your thinking will be hazy and you will have problems taking decisions. Don't be overcome by this. You may also feel fear for no apparent reason. Try to be as clear in your thought as you can be, and take every action after thinking it through. Logic and rationality will be your strength during these 2.5 years. Don't let them leave your side. With strong determination and sustained effort you can beat this period just like you beat the last one. Phase 3 (Next Sign To Moon's) This is the last part of the Sadesati and Saturn is almost out of ammunition. By now you might be feeling a little bitter. 5 years of continued challenges can do that to a human being. It's time to be retrospective and think about all the positive things in your life, and think about all the good people in your life. Don't let your humanity and empathy die. Your enemies might be a little extra active during this time, so don't be careless. Try not to give an opportunity to others to hurt you. Work to maintain a cordial relationship with your bosses and the administration. Show everybody that you still have the old charm and enthusiasm and can make things happen. You might feel a little financial pressure right now, but nothing that you haven't dealt with in the 5 years earlier. Keep a check on your expenses and try to build some savings for sudden expenses. This is the last phase of the Sadesati and it is said that when Saturn goes out of the Sadesati, rewards follow for the deserving. Many of your investments and efforts that didn't fructify while the Sadesati lasted may all bear fruit in a sudden heap when the Sadesati ends. So remember not to stop making your best efforts during the sadesati.

9. YOGAS AND ASTROLOGY

A unique characteristic of Indian astrology are the yogas. Yogas are planetary positions that lead to a certain result. We have already discussed one yoga, that of raja yoga. This was mentioned in diagram 8. This is a simple yoga. It was a matter of one planet and the houses over which it was lord. There are literally thousands of these kinds of yogas. In India, an astrologer must know them of by heart. Then it is said that the first thing an astrologer needs, is a good memory. During this course, we shall discuss a number of yogas. Studying a horoscope for the presence of yogas presents an astrologer with new dimensions in horoscope interpretation. When you analyse a horoscope for the presence of yogas, as discussed below, you will quickly obtain insight into the principle components of a horoscope.

9.1 PANCHA MAHAPURUSHA YOGAS

Pancha mahapurusha yogas are yogas that are easy to find in a horoscope. To begin our analysis for this group of yogas, we note the position of the ascendant and the Moon. The Moon is an exceptionally important planet in Indian astrology, and for this reason, we can use the sign the Moon is in as an alternative ascendant. So if we look for yogas we can look for them from the ascendant but we can also take the Moon as a starting point in our search for yogas. For instance, if we say that a certain planet must be placed in a kendra house to be considered as a planet making a yoga, the kendra house is calculated from either the ascendant or from the sign the Moon is in. Example: We have a Moon placed in the fifth house. Kendra houses calculated from the ascendant are the first, fourth, seventh and tenth houses. Kendra houses calculated from the Moon in this example, are the fifth (first house calculated from the Moon), eighth (fourth house calculated from the Moon), eleventh (seventh house calculated from the Moon) and the second (tenth house calculated from the Moon) houses. And now to the yogas and their consequences:

Ruchaka yoga: Mars in its own sign or in exaltation, and in a kendra house brave, arrogant, the victor. Bhadra yoga: Mercury in its own sign or in exaltation, and in a kendra house intellectual, learned, rich. Hamsa yoga: Jupiter in its own sign or in exaltation, and in a kendra house religious, very fortunate. Malavaya yoga: Venus in its own sign or in exaltation, and in a kendra house wealthy, loves life, sometimes self-indulgent, good marriage, strong sense of justice. Shasya yoga: Saturn in its own sign or in exaltation, and in a kendra house powerful, strict, position of authority.

In short, the characteristics of a certain planet are strongly emphasised in a pancha mahapurusha yoga. Example of a ruchaka yoga: Adolf Hitler had Mars in Aries in the seventh house. Mars is in its own sign (also a moolatrikona sign) and in a kendra house (the seventh house). How he used the ruchaka yoga is evident. This yoga need not be used is this manner. Many sports people have a ruchaka yoga in their horoscope.

A bhadra yoga enables a person to become good in commerce and communicating. A hamsa yoga could be seen in the horoscope of a learned person, a clergyman or someone who has a lot of good fortune in his life. We could expect a malavaya yoga in the horoscope of a millionaire or a beauty queen. We can see a malavaya yoga in John F. Kennedy's horoscope (which has been enclosed with the course). In his horoscope, Venus is in its own sign, in the ninth house (this is a kendra house as seen from the Moon). In his horoscope, this resulted in great riches and because of meeting many beautiful women, a great deal of sexual enjoyment. However, we can see this yoga also in the horoscope of the peaceable Gandhi. In this horoscope, Venus is in the first house in a moolatrikona sign. In both examples, we see expressions of Venus (peace, sexual enjoyment, riches) but, depending on the rest of the horoscope, the malavaya yoga has unfolded in different ways. A shasya yoga is fitting for the horoscope of a politician or a director. Let us not forget we find pancha mahapurusha yogas in the horoscopes of approximately of half the population, and certainly not everyone is famous. Only the appearance of such a yoga is by no means enough to warrant fame. Other aspects in the horoscope must also support this.

9.2 PARIVARTANA YOGAS

A parivartana yoga occurs when planet A is in the sign of planet B, and planet B is in the sign of planet A. For example, if Mars is in Taurus and Venus is in Aries, Mars is in the sign of Venus and Venus is in the sign if Mars. In Western (horary) astrology, this position is called in reception'. If this position occurs in your own horoscope, it is indicated by a small wave (, in mutual reception with another planet). Although the computer programme that we use for our printouts regards this as a beneficial condition code, that is not always the case. We can ascertain that the influence both planets have on each other is similar to that of a conjunction. If this is beneficial or not depends of the character of both planets and especially the houses they rule. There are three kinds of parivartana yogas.

Dainya yoga: This yoga occurs when one of the planets participating in the yoga is lord of the sixth, eighth or twelfth house. These are dushtana houses that generally have an unfavourable influence. In most cases, the lord of the sixth, eighth or twelfth house will be strengthened by the benefic influence of the other planet.

However, the other planet involved in this yoga is always damaged. Example: When Sagittarius is on the ascendant, the Moon is lord of the eighth house and the Sun is lord of the ninth house. Should the Moon be in Leo and the Sun in Cancer, then we have a dainya parivartana yoga. In this case, the Sun will be damaged because it has to battle with the difficult energy of the eighth house. The Moon however, will get a boost from the influence of the favourable ninth house energy. A possible interpretation for the lord of the eighth house when it is favourably influenced: Perhaps the person involved here will receive an inheritance (eighth house) from his father (ninth house), or he may be a teacher (ninth house) of psychology (eighth house). A possible interpretation for the lord of the ninth house when it is unfavourably influenced: Probably this person's father (ninth house) has had a problematical life because the lord of the ninth house has been affected by the influence of the lord of the eighth house, which has to do with all kinds of problems. In addition, it is possible that his good fortune (lord of the ninth house) will be tainted (influence of the lord of the eighth house).

Kahala yoga: This occurs when one of the planets of this yoga is lord of the third house. The other planet may not be lord of the sixth, eighth or twelfth house (because we then have a dainya yoga). The third house is the house of energy and strength. A kahala yoga would mean that the person involved would invest a lot of energy and vigour in improving his circumstances. Example: If Taurus is on the ascendant, the Moon is lord of the third house and Saturn lord of the ninth and tenth houses. Supposing the Moon is in Capricorn and Saturn in Cancer. Then we have a kahala yoga. This person will put a lot of energy (third house) into his career (tenth house) and into broadening his horizons (ninth house).

Maha yoga: When a parivartana yoga occurs between the lords of the first, second, fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth, tenth or eleventh houses, we have a maha yoga. The lords of the third, sixth, eighth or twelfth houses may not be involved, because then we would have either a dainya yoga or a kahala yoga. This yoga enriches the planets involved.

9.3 SCISSORS YOGAS (KARTARI YOGAS)

This group of yogas is caused by planets being placed around a certain house and/or planet. The most generally occurring scissors yoga is when two benefics or malifics enclose a planet or a house. Scissors yogas can also be called kartari yogas. Kartari means scissors.

Example: Let us assume that Venus is in Taurus, Saturn (a malefic) in Aries and Mars (a malefic) in Gemini. Two malefics enclose Venus. Therefore, Venus will not be able to function optimally. In Western horary astrology, we know the term enclosed, which is used when a planet in enclosed by two malefics. In Indian astrology, the term enclosed is used for containment in a negative sense, and also for containment with positive consequences.

We call enclosure by malefics of a planet or a house papa kartari yoga. We call enclosure by benefics of a planet or a house shubha kartari yoga. Example: If Venus is in Taurus, Jupiter (a benefic) in Aries, and the Moon (a benefic) in Gemini, then Venus will function exceptionally well. This is shubha kartari yoga. A house can also be enclosed, although there is no planet in that house. Example: Mars is in the fourth house, the fifth house is empty and Saturn is in the sixth house. This can have awkward consequences for the children, because two malefics enclose the fifth house. In this case, the fifth house encounters a papa kartari yoga. However, when Venus is in the fourth house and Jupiter in the sixth house, everything pertaining to the fifth house will be beneficially influenced. In this situation, the fifth house is strengthened by the occurrence of a shubka kartari yoga. The planets can form these scissors yogas, but not Rahu and Ketu. This type of scissors yoga is common. When the first house is enclosed, it is of particular importance. This is because the first house is so important. One could say that the first house is the horoscope in miniature. In Gandhi's horoscope we can see that the first house is enclosed by the Sun (malefic in the twelfth house) and Saturn (malefic in the second house). This is a papa kartari yoga, which caused a certain number of problems in his life. SCISSORS YOGAS OF THE MOON There are a number of scissors yogas that apply specifically to the Moon or the Sun.

Sunapha yoga: Planets in the second house (other then the Sun) calculated from the Moon richness, financial benefits. The effects of this are stronger if benefics are situated in the second house calculated from the Moon. Should there be one or more malefics in this second house from the Moon, the effect will be limited, or there will be no effect at all.

Anapha yoga: Planets in the twelfth house (other then the Sun) calculated from the Moon - religious. This effect increases if there are benefics in the twelfth house calculated from the Moon, but should it concern one or more malefics, the effect is limited or non-effective. In Kennedy's horoscope, Saturn is in the eleventh house, which is the twelfth house calculated from the Moon. He was not known to be a particularly religious man. Durudhura yoga: Planets (other then the Sun) in both the twelfth and the second house calculated from the Moon - rich and high morals (especially if it concerns beneficial planets). Kemadruma yoga: There are no planets in either the twelfth or the second house calculated from the Moon. Other planets do not support the functions of the Moon. The person will feel lonely and lead a rather difficult life. There are many ways in which this difficult yoga can be neutralised. An example: should the Moon be in either a kendra or a trikona house, in conjunction with another planet or being aspected by Jupiter this yoga will be greatly neutralised. Gandhi had Kemadruma yoga in his horoscope, because there are no planets in either the twelfth or the second house calculated from the Moon. However, the Moon is in the tenth house (a kendra house). This greatly neutralises the Kemadruma yoga. SCISSORS YOGAS OF THE SUN Now we shall discuss the scissors yogas of the Sun. Planets in the second or the twelfth house calculated from the Sun, will strengthen the Sun (naturally in their own manner, according to their character).

Veshi yoga: When a planet (other then the Moon) is in the second house calculated from the Sun, it forms a veshi yoga. This yoga gives riches and status, at least when this yoga is formed by benefics. If it is formed by malefics it can lead to all kinds of problems. Voshi yoga: This occurs when a planet (other then the Moon) is placed in the twelfth house calculated from the Sun. This yoga supports spiritual development and intelligence, at least when it is formed by a benefic. A malefic in the twelfth house calculated from the Sun will give us problems. Kennedy had both a benefic and a malefic in the twelfth house calculated from the Sun. He was intelligent (the influence of Mercury), but the fact that he was murdered had something to do with the powerful malefic Mars (in a moolatrikona house) in the eighth house, which is the twelfth house calculated from the Sun. This very same Mars also gave him his sex appeal. The eighth house represents death as well as sexual charisma. A powerful Mars in that house can lead to a violent death (Mars as powerful malefic) as well as a lot of sexual charisma. The Voshi yoga increases the above effects.

Ubhayachari yoga: There is a planet (other then the Moon) in both the second and the twelfth house calculated from the Sun. This brings good fortune in many areas, but again only if it involves benefics. Malefics will create trouble. When a person has both a Veshi and Voshi yoga, he actually has Ubhayachari yoga. It would be logical to expect a yoga when there are no planets in the second or the twelfth house calculated from the Sun. This is not the case. The Sun is in itself, a powerful planet, and it can function very well alone, without the support of other planets. A benefic in the vicinity is always appreciated, but it is not necessary. Several of the aforementioned yogas will appear in everyone's horoscope. Because they appear so often, they are yogas, that can only lead to sizeable results, when they are related to other indications.

9.4 VARIOUS YOGAS

I have already explained that there are literally thousands of yogas. The following list is of particularly important yogas. One must realise that this is only a very small selection. For those who wish to learn more on this subject, I refer to the list of books for further reading. The book 'yogas in Astrology' by K. S. Charak contains especially good descriptions of yogas. The book written by Hart deFouw also gives a lot of attention to this subject.

Raja yoga: The lords of a kendra and a trikona house are in conjunction, mutually aspected or in reception. This is a combination of good fortune (trikona house) and action (kendra house), so take advantage of it. I would like to point out that a raja yoga could be formed by one planet, and also by two planets. Example: With an Aries ascendant, the Moon is lord of the fourth house and the Sun is lord of the fifth house. Should the Sun and the Moon be in conjunction in a horoscope with an Aries ascendant, the two planets then form a raja yoga. In this case, the Moon is lord of a kendra house (the fourth) and the Sun is lord of a trikona house (the fifth).

Adhi yoga: There must be art least two, but preferably more, benefics in the sixth, seventh and eighth house calculated from the Moon - leadership. Explanation: Benefics in the sixth and/or eighth house support the seventh house (refer to scissors yogas). A benefic in the seventh house will of course lead to a better functioning of that house. However, the seventh house is opposite the Ascendant. Because of this, it also has consequences for the functioning of the ascendant. When a planet is placed in the seventh house, it will aspect the first

house. This is the reason that a strong seventh house also gives us a strong first house. Inasmuch as the first house is the whole horoscope in short, a strong first house is of particular importance. It then follows that the consequence of adhi yoga is a strong first house, which will therefore lead to positive results. Analogically an adhi yoga calculated from the Moon, will also allow the Moon to function much better. The Moon is the most important planet in Indian astrology. That the Moon should function well is therefore of great importance.

Amala yoga: A benefic placed in the tenth house calculated from the ascendant or the Moon - philanthropic and benevolent attitude towards mankind, career in the social sector If a malefic is placed in this position, it may be favourable for the owner of the horoscope (explanation: malefics in upachaya houses are good and the tenth house is an upachaya house). However, it may mean, that he attains a highranking position at the cost of others. At the very least, he will not be very particular in choosing the avenues leading to social success. Gandhi has in his horoscope, amala yoga calculated from the ascendant (Moon in the tenth house) and amala yoga calculated from the Moon (Jupiter in the tenth house from the Moon).

Ashubha mala yoga: When all the benefics are placed in the sixth, eighth and twelfth houses - the benefics become powerless: misfortune, a difficult life. Budhatiya yoga: The Sun and Mercury are in conjunction and are placed in the first, seventh, fifth or eleventh house - an intellectual. J.W. Goethe had this combination in his horoscope. Explanation: The first house is the most important house in Indian astrology, and when the Sun and Mercury are placed in the seventh house, they aspect the ascendant. The intellect is a facet of the fifth house. The intellectual combination of the Sun and Mercury is favourable for the intellect. When the Sun and Mercury are placed in the eleventh house, they aspect the fifth house. If Mercury is in combustion, the budhatiya yoga remains intact, but the person involved will find it difficult to convince the public of his good ideas. The budhatiya yoga will manifests, but it can only be publicly displayed with the greatest difficulty.

Chandra Mangala yoga: The Moon and Mars in conjunction or opposition riches (often caused by women), probably made by unscrupulous means. It can also cause problems with the mother. Chandra is the Indian name for the Moon, and Mangala is the name for Mars.

Charussagara yoga: Planets placed in all the kendra houses - good reputation and good fortune (better when it is formed by benefics). The kendra houses are the pillars of the horoscope. Planets placed there are extremely effective. When planets are occupying all the kendra houses, their energy will be powerfully felt, which in most cases, will be a good thing (especially when it concerns natural or temporary benefics). Srik yoga: This occurs when only natural benefics placed in the kendra houses comfort, good luck, abundance. Explanation: When there is srik yoga, the natural benefics will be very influential in life, which of course, is very positive.

Sarpa yoga: Only malefics are placed in the kendra houses - misfortune, a difficult life. Gaja Kesari yoga: The Moon and Jupiter are either conjunct, square or in opposition - good luck, intelligence, and high morals. In this yoga, the Moon and Jupiter influence each other. The connection between the planet, which is the most important for our life on earth, the Moon, and the planet of good luck and fortune, Jupiter, has favourable effects. Both Gandhi and Kennedy have Gaja Kesari yoga in their horoscope. That of Gandhi is the stronger because in his horoscope, both the Moon and Jupiter are placed in kendra houses, whilst in the Kennedy horoscope the Moon in placed in a dushtana house.

Shakata yoga: When the Moon is placed in the sixth, eighth or twelfth house, calculated from Jupiter - fluctuating fortunes. This is more or less the opposite of the Gaja Kesari yoga. When the Moon is placed in a dushtana house calculated from Jupiter, we have a difficult relationship between these two planets.

Maha Bhagya yoga: For a man: The ascendant, the Sun and The Moon are placed in uneven signs and he is born in the daytime - very fortunate. Uneven signs are, by the way, positive; masculine signs (the air and fire signs). Daytime is also masculine. For a woman: The ascendant, the Sun and the Moon are placed in even signs, and she is born during the night - very fortunate. Even signs are negative; feminine signs (the earth and water signs). The night is feminine.

Saraswati yoga: When Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are placed in kendra houses, in a friendly sign, or even better, in the second house writer, learned person, speaker, intellectual.

When they are in a favourable position, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury can provide wisdom. In Gandhi's horoscope, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are placed in kendra houses. It is true that Jupiter and Mercury are placed in, for them, neutral signs, but as all the named planets are either in conjunction with each other, or aspect benefices, the Saraswati yoga here is extremely powerful.

Vasumathi yoga: Benefics placed in upachaya (the third, sixth, tenth or eleventh houses) houses calculated from the Moon or the ascendant - riches. Kennedy had Jupiter and Venus in the tenth house calculated from the Moon. Two out of three benefics in upachaya houses calculated from the Moon provide reasonably strong vasumathi yoga.

9.5 THE POSITION OF YOGAS

No horoscope is without yogas. Favourable yogas are frequent. Still many people lead lives which shine in their mediocrity. Persons with favourable yogas are not always rich and famous. The cause of this lies in just how a certain yoga is placed in the horoscope. If we want to form an opinion as to just how a yoga expresses itself, we shall have to examine the following. 1. How strong are the planets connected to the yoga? Example: Let us assume that the Moon is placed in Scorpio in the third house and Jupiter is placed in Aquarius in the sixth house. We could say that there is a Gaja Kesari yoga. However the Moon is in her fall and Jupiter is in a dushtana house. Both planets are in trouble. The yoga can hardly be felt. Refer to my comments about the Gaja Kesari yoga (yoga number 27) of Gandhi and Kennedy. 2. What aspects do the planets forming the yoga receive? When, in the previously example of a Gaja Kesari Yoga, Saturn (a malefic) aspects the Moon, and Mars (also a malefic) aspects Jupiter, then yoga will hardly be visible. Because of the aspects from unfavourable planets, both the Moon and Jupiter are under pressure. This is the reason the yoga is threatened with failure. 3. How strong are the rulers of the signs where the yoga planets are placed? If the (positive) promises made by a planet are to be kept, it is of great importance that the ruler of the sign where that planet is placed has a favourable profile in the horoscope. The ruler is the owner of a house. A planet placed in a house, lives in and

rents that house. If the owner of a house runs into problems, then the occupants of that house will be affected as well, if only for the reason that there is no budget for the upkeep of the house.

There is a beautiful golden crown, on his head and a garland of gems around his neck. His radiance is just like the interior part of a lotus flower and he is mounted on the chariot pulled by seven horses. The Sun god is also known as Savita, which means - one who creates, SAVITA SARVASYA PRASAVITA (Nirukta -10/31). According to the Rigveda the Sun god situated at the centre of the solar system is an inspirer of all, pervader of the internal parts and an embodiment of almighty god. According to the Markandeya Puran Sun is the embodiment of Brahma, the world originates from the Sun and is established in it. The Sun is the appearance of all the matters and elements and is the eternal almighty. This very God Bhaskar creates nurtures and annihilates the world respectively in the form of lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu & Lord Shiva. Sun is the supreme deity amongst all the nine-planets. When Brahma manifested himself by breaking the egg, then he pronounced OM. This Omkar itself is the supreme soul and the very physique of Sun god. The four Vedas emerged from all the four mouths of lord Brahma, which were glowing by their own radiance. The powerful radiance emanating from the Omkar covered the radiance of the Vedas and ultimately all of them unified. This very Vedic appearance of Omkar is the sun god. This radiant sun was the first manifested during the times of creation, hence it was called Aditya. Once the demons, the titans and the monsters unitedly fought with the deities and snatched their power and authority after defeating them. Aditi the mother of the deities did worship of sun god to get protection from this calamity. Being pleased with her the sun god took incarnation as her son and established the eternal path of the Veda after defeating the enemies of the deities. He is called Aditya also for this reason. VENSATURN:

The complexion and radiance of Saturn is as brilliant as a blue diamond. He has a golden crown on his head and wears a garland and blue coloured apparels. He is seated on the back of the vulture. He possesses a bow, an arrow and a trident in each of his three hands respectively and his fourth hand is raised in the posture of giving boons and blessings. Saturn is the son of Sun god and Chaya (Sanvarna). He is considered as a cruel planet. The cruelty, which he possesses in his sight, is due to the curse he received from his wife. The narration which has been mentioned in the Brahma Puran goes as follows:

The deity Shani (Saturn) was a great devotee of lord Krishna right from his childhood. He used to be immersed in the love for lord Krishna . After he grew up, his father married him with the daughter of Chitraratha '. His wife was a chaste woman full of radiance. One night she went to him after having a bath when her menstruation periods were over, with a desire of having a son, but her husband Shani (Saturn) was immersed in the meditation of lord Krishna , he was unconscious of his surroundings. She became tired of waiting and she became angry . She cursed him that from today onwards whoever gets seen by him would be destroyed. After he came out of his meditative trance Shani' (Saturn) tried to make up with her by cajoling her. His wife too felt sorry for her mistake but she was powerless in neutralizing the ill effects of her curse. From then onwards Shani has been keeping his gaze downwards because he did not want to cause harm to anybody. According to the astrology if the Saturn pierces and passes through the constellation of Rohini then it is considered to be very inauspicious and causes draughts for twelve years making even the survival of the living beings impossible. This combination was about to come during the time of Dasharatha. He was cautioned by his astrologers against its consequences. To protect his subject from Shanis' wrath Dasharatha went up in the constellation-zone. First of all he made salutations to the deity Shani' but when he refused he fought with him, using his most destructive weapon. Shani' became pleased by his sense of duty and asked him to demand any boon. Dasharatha requested him not to cross the Rohini-constellation' till the sun and constellation exists. Shani agreed to his request. Lord Yama is the presiding deity of the Saturn. His complexion is dark, his vehicle is a vulture and his chariot is made up of iron. Saturn remains in each of the twelve zodiacs for thirty months. The Saturn is considered as a high planet, till the twentieth degree , in the zodiac of Libra .

KETU:

The Dragon's tail or Ketu has two arms. He possesses a crown on his head and is attired in black-clothes. The complexion of his body is smoke-like and he has a deformed face. In each of his two hands he holds a mace and the other hand is raised in the posture of giving boons and blessings. He is seated on a vulture which is also his vehicle. Ketu' is the headless trunk of the demon Rahu'. After the killing of Rahu, when lord Vishnu severed his head by his sudarshan chakra. The head portion was called Rahu and his trunk was called Ketu. Both Rahu and Ketu became planets. According to the matsyapuran there are numerous Ketus out of which Dhoomketu ' is the main. According to the Indian astrology dragon's tail is a shadow planet. It has a tremendous impact on human lives and also the whole creation. It's area of influence is considered to be in the north-west direction. According to some scholars Ketu is Somber and mild as compared to Rahu and is beneficial for a man. In some special circumstances it helps a man to achieve the zenith of fame. The shape of Ketu is considered to be of the shape of a fluttering flag. Its length is only six angul (six inches). Although both Rahu and Ketu originated from the same body but after being transformed into the planets and considering it as their rebirth, new names of lineages were given to them. Rahu was considered to be of Paithinas' clan or lineage and Ketu was considered to be of Jainini' lineage. The complexion of Ketu is like a colour of the smoke. In some places there are mentions of pigeon as his vehicle. The great phase of Dragon's tail lasts for seven years . If there is a Ketu situated in an inauspicious house of a man's horoscope then it causes inauspicious and misfortunes. The man gets inflicted with disease like leprosy itches and ringworm. Making donations of the following things pacifies the Ketu Lapis- Lazule (gem), oil, black sesame, blanket, weapon, musk and flower of blue colour. Wearing of a cat's eye and chanting of Mrityunjaya Japa also pacifies the Ketu

RAHU:
The face of Dragon's head is very ferocious and terrifying. He has a crown on his head, a garland in his neck and wears apparels of black colour. He holds a sword, a shield, a trident in each of his three hands respectively and his fourth hand is raised in the posture of giving boons and blessings. He is seated on a lion, which is his vehicle. Rahu's' mother is Sinhika ' who was the wife of Viprachitti ' and was the daughter of Hiranyakashipu . Rahu is also known as Sainhikeya', which is based on hi s mother's name. Rahu had one hundred brothers, but he was the most capable and powerful among all of them. (Shrimadbhagawat 6/6/36 ). During the time of churning of the sea, when lord Vishnu in his appearance of an enchanting woman (Mohini) was giving ambrosia to the deities for drinking, Rahu sat among the deities in disguise. Rahu also was able to drink the ambrosia but the moon and the sun made the secret open about with real identity. Lord Vishnu killed him with his Sudarshan Chakra' by severing his head. The drinking of ambrosia had made him immortal and lord Brahma transformed him into a planet. (Srimadbhagawat 8/9/26 ) According to the Mahabharat (Bheeshma Parva 12/40) the shape of the dragon's head is circular. He too sits in the assembly of lord Brahma along with the rest of the planets. According to the Matsyapuran (28/61) the shadow of the earth is circular and Rahu rotates around this very shadow. He is the presiding deity of this shadow (Chhaya). According to the rigveda (5/40/5) when Rahu the son of Asuya or Sinhika covers the sun and the moon with his darkness, then it becomes so dark that the people became unable even to identify their places. Even after being transformed into a planet Rahu attacks the moon on full moon day and the sun on dark moon day out of his enmity towards them. This event is called an eclipse or Rahu Parag. According to the Matsyapuran the chariot of Rahu appears in the form of darkness. His chariot is pulled by eight horses, which are black in color. The presiding deity of Rahu is Kaal '. It is symbolised by a black flag in north west direction among all the nine planets. The great phase of Dragon's head lasts for 18 years . Barring few situations it is generally considered to be an inauspicious planet. According to the astrology if Rahu' is situated unfavorably in the horoscope then it causes many types of physical illness. It also causes

obstacles in accomplishment of works and accidents. Chanting of the Mrityunjay mantra and wearing a turquoise pacifies the dragon's head. Making donations of mica, iron, sesame, blue clothes, receptacles made of copper, horsebeans, oil onyx, blanket, horse and a sword, to the brahmins too pacifies the dragon's head. Placement of planets in particular house and specific signs makes various Yogs. Now we will discuss various Yogs in details.1.

The chart above depicts the 12 houses, and the meaning of each house. I will suggest that before proceeding further, you should understand the relevance of each house. for example number one house represents the person himself, his personality, his character, how strong, how weak the person is. It represents the start of life.

Houses - Astrology chart is divided into 12 houses. Each house is having its own significance. Now I would be telling good and bad effects of houses, corresponding to the stars therein. 1. FIRST HOUSE- It is also called lagan. if lagan is having good planets or is seen by good planets and lord of that is sitting in his own house or his top planet (uch grah) then person having such horoscope will have lot of wealth, rising graph in monetary term, long age and will be good leader. 2. SECOND HOUSE- It is also called dhan bhav. if the good stars are in second house or is seen by them then person would be ultra rich, will gain good education, big family and would be good in art of conversation. 3. THIRD HOUSE- then person would be very brave, having good relations with brothers and sisters, who will also praise the person. 4. FOURTH HOUSE- then person would be having nice big house, good friends, good wife, clothes and a happy man. This thing also give good cars and attachment with mother. 5. FIFTH HOSUE- then person would be having good children, financially well, famous, intelligent & good speaker. 6. SIXTH HOUSE- Usually 6,8 and 12th houses are considered as bad houses and if bad planets are sitting in these houses, it is considered as bad planets destroying bad effects given by these houses. if the sixth house lord is sitting in sixth house only it is called astra yog. This also diminishes the effect given by sixth house. Consider the horoscope of Jawaharlal Nehru Person having this yog they can over power their enemies. They come winners in competition and court cases . In the

horoscope of Pt. J.L.Nehru, in the sixth Jupiter is sitting in his own house. This yog gave him edge upon his competitors, and he always emerged as winner. 7. SEVENTH HOUSE- If lord of seventh house is effected by favorable planets, that person gets good wife, good marriage life. This Yog differ from person to person. If person is born in conservative country and second marriage is illegal, then he may end up in having good wife and good family. If the person is born in western culture, then person would be filandrer

8. EIGHT HOUSE- If lord of eight house is in favorable house or is in favorable position it is called asur yog. Such a person is selfish, stubborn, conspirator. And in the process hurts himself. 9. NINTH HOUSE- If ninth house is effected by good planets, then it is very good yog. Ninth house is considered as very ausipious house. Person having such yog is highly respectable, lucky, always rich, and is respected by intelligent people. This yog gives special power to total horoscope. 10. TENTH HOUSE- If tenth house is effected by good planets or its lord is sitting in its own house or its top house, it is called good for his work. He would rise high in its field 11. ELEVENTH HOUSE- If eleventh is in good condition, then this yog is called suparijit Yog. Person in this yog gets birth in good family, takes part in good workings, and would earn good through his working. This house is called gain house. 12. TWELTH HOUSE- IF twelth house is effected by good planets then person born in this chart does heavy expenses. Such person finds difficulty in saving money. Such person is afraid of his enemies. He sleeps a lot, always lazy is good in making sexual pleasure, travels abroad. Now we will be discussing some bad points linked with stars in houses. 1. FIRST HOUSE- If lord of first house is sitting with bad planets or is seen by bad planets then it is called Avyog. Person having such yog lives with people who are inferior to him. His body and health does not remain fit. His character is under suspicion. He becomes ultra poor and faces insult. Ascendant/Lagan is the first house of the horscope. If it is effected by nice planets, entire horoscope becomes strong and vice versa 2. SECOND HOUSE- If second house is effected by bad planets or its lord is sitting in bad house, then person could have problems in eyes or teeth. He is not a rich man, person is not good in speech. He does not have good family. If the family is good, then he does not have any attachment. In total everything gets effected linked with second house.

3. THIRD HOUSE- Bad effects linked to third house are easily defeated by enemies, extra work to be done. His effort and money goes waste. His brother and sister does not remain happy. 4. FOURTH HOUSE- Bad effects linked to fourth house are problem to mother. Person does not able to find good friends, any vehichle and Jewellery. 5. FIFTH HOUSE- Bad effects linked to fifth house are that person will face day-to-day unhappiness. Person is liar and always will try to befool other and earn money. Person will not have any child, if he will have, he would not able to have their effection. Such person makes association with bad people. Such person eats too much. 6. SIXTH HOUSE- If sixth house is infected by bad planets or is sitting in bad house, such person is not afraid of enemies, come victorious in competition and court cases. 7. SEVENTH HOUSE- If seventh lord or seventh house is infected by bad planets, then person would have to face problems related to seventh house i.e. he may have to leave his wife and live at some other place. His wife may die. He might face problems in making sex. 8. EIGHT HOUSE- If eight lord is sitting in sixth, eight or twelth house then it is called saral yog. Such person is strong and practical. He is not afraid, intelligent, rich, having good children. If saturn sits in eight house, it is good for age. It gives long age. But if mars is sitting in eight house, it gives disease. So conclusion is if lord of eight house is in 6th house or 12th house it is saral yog. But if any bad planet is sitting in eight house, that is not good and then does not give saral yog. 9. NINTH HOUSE- If lord of ninth hose is sitting or infected by bad planets then peson is very unlucky. He will destroy his ancestral property. He does not believe in God. 10. Let us see what is the influence of planets in their dasha Sun- In the dasha of sun, if sun is sitting in its enemy house or it deblated or is sitting with its enemies, then this dasha bring hard times to the individual. It gives tension in the family, loss of money, loss of power and problems to wife and children's. If sun is in good place (meaning sun is in friend house like Jupiter, Mercury or Mars) then person will do beneficial traveling, gains of money from job/business. Person gets famous in his work and his chart of success keeps on rising. He is more focused in his work. He has good peace of mind and will have all the comforts in this dasha. Moon- Moon which represents mind, in the dasha of moon the person is happy. He accomplishes all his goals, gets gains from his work /Job. Good Food, wife, son, clothes, Jewellery, land. He gets comforts from all the corners of life. Things will be reversed if his moon is affected by bad planets. His/Her mother health will be affected; he may find tensions in his house. Mars- In the dasha of Mars and if mars is well situated, then person gets benefits from work related to fire, Government affairs, and litigation. He may also get benefits from lying, fooling other people and various other bad habits. Reverse should be considered if mars is not well situated. Brothers and sisters struggle in their life. Venus- In the dasha of Venus, and Venus is well situated, either in Kendra or trikon. Kendra means (1, 4,7and 10th house) and Trikon means (2, 5 and 7th house). Venus is benefic planet by nature. In this dasha individual gets all the comforts of marriage life. Person enjoys the company of opposite sex. He owns big cars, houses and fame in this dasha. If Venus is sitting in the lagan, the person can become film star or film actress. [When we predict such thing like Venus sitting in the lagan makes the person filmstar or film actress, we here assumes that his work house is also strong, his lord of tenth house is sitting with benefic planets. His lagan is being seen by good planets like Jupiter or by the lord of lagan]. If Venus is sitting with bad planets and is surrounded by them, then person gets relation with bad women's. He brings bad name to the family. His suffers in this dasha and is always miserable. Saturn- In the dasha of saturn/shani, if shani well situated brings prosperity to the person. A lot depends upon where is saturn situated and which house does Saturn represents. If Saturn is sitting in Lagana in Libra (7), which means Saturn is in its top most form. If dasha of Saturn comes, then person can become the leader of community, city, state or country. Saturn is second largest planet and sitting in lagan in its top most house libra (7) give the personality the immense power. If Saturn is affected and is sitting with enemies, then result

comes opposite. Saturn also represents job/work. If Saturn is effected his job also gets effected. His job can go or he may face hardships in his job.

Marriage is one of the very important questions, for which astrologers are consulted.
Marriage is one of the things in life which is very complex in nature. It is complex because it deals with 2 humans. Every Individual who aspires for marriage is keen to know whether his marriage [relationship of 2 humans] will be fruitful or not, whether the two individuals can stay together and can lead a happy life. Regarding Marriage, the first and foremost planet which needs to be seen is Venus. Venus represents sex, sexual partner, beauty, bed, life partner, and comforts of marriage life. The house which is seen for marriage point of view is seventh house. If lord of seventh house is sitting in Kendra or Trikon in its top form or of his own house, and there is no bad aspect of Saturn, mars, ketu, rahu or sun and is being seen by Jupiter or Venus. Person having such situation in its horoscope will enjoy all the fruits of marriage. He/She will have good prosperous marriage. Now we will see various effects, if house is seen by following stars

Jupiter- Jupiter or popularly known as Guru which means saint or Good Teacher. If the seventh house is seen by Jupiter (which means Jupiter is in 11, 1 or 3 house) then the individual will have very comfortable life. Jupiter is considered as saint or teacher. Seen by saint/teacher it means all the blessings from them. (In earlier days, if saints/teacher gives blessing that would definite had positive influence on the individual. So this is one of the reasons that Jupiter is always resembled with Guru/Saint/Teacher.) So in horoscope, which is seen by Jupiter becomes extremely good and Individual gets all the benefits from that house

Venus- If the seventh house is seen by Venus, so it means person is having Venus in its Lagan (Ascendant). Venus in lagan gives special power and importance to Venus. Any planet in Lagan becomes more powerful and gives extra benefits to the individual related to that star. So having Venus in Lagan gives benefits of Venus as good life partner, prosperous marriage life, and good wife/husband.

Mars- If the seventh house is being watched by Mars, and then the person becomes manglik. The word manglik has been derived from the planet mars which is also called mangal grah. If Mars is placed in 12,1,4,7 or 8th house then person becomes manglik. Mars is red and firry in nature, when mars sees seventh house, it puts it bad effects on seventh house, you can consider that house being burning due to mars. The result is death by accident, fire, disease or separation, divorce, living life together but with misery. Having Mars in 12,1,4,7 or 8th house makes the person manglik. So it is very much advisable that manglik person should marry manglik only. If Mars is sitting with Sun, Saturn, Mars, Rahu or Ketu. Many Astrologers believe that power of Mars is reduced, so the person becomes Non-Manglik. If the mars is seen by Saturn also, some astrologers believe that power of Mars is reduced. We will also take this as Non-Manglik, because mars seen by Saturn reduces power of mars, seems very logical.

Saturn- If the seventh house is seen by Saturn, it delays the marriage, and can break the love affairs, engagements, and can give little bit problems in marriage life. The art of

prediction varies from time to time and from place to place. If the horoscope is of person sitting in London and is white person, then predict 100% as divorce. If the horoscope is of person sitting in conservative family in India, then predict some problems in marriage life. If the horoscope is of very modern family, living in metro, still you can predict tense relations or divorce, judging the situation. In this phase we are covering tensions related to Marriage life ? There are many reason which lead to family tension. 1. Manglik - if the one person is manglik and other is non-manglik, then manglik person will try to dominate the other person. 2. Dominant Ascendant - if one ascendant is dominant to other, then it wil dominate the other ascendant. This also leads to family tensions. 3. Fourth House - Fourth house play a major role in providing house comforts. if fourth house is aspected by saturn, mars, rahu or ketu or lord of fourth house is seen by these planets, then tension will previal. Intensity of these tensions become more, when dasha or antar dasha of these stars takes place. 4. Firy Ascendants - Few ascendants are firy in nature. for example scorpio which represents fire, anger and destruction. Person having such ascendant do have the tendency of reflecting more anger. if both the ascendants have such firy ascendants, then the effect is nullifed, other family tensions do prevail. 5. Second House - if second house is seen/effected by rahu, ketu, saturn, sun or mars. Second house represents family matters and speaking skills of person. if this house is effected by bad planets, then the result would be tension in family matters due to ill words that the person will use and will destroy his family life. 6.Seventh lord - If the seventh lord is impacted by any of the bad planets, then the resultant would be tension in marriage life. Please note that such tensions would be in the dasha or antar dasha of such bad planets effecting sevent house or seventh lord .

Popularly known as shani ki sad satti. This is the phase of seven and half years. Saturn comes to one house for two and a half years. Shani ki sath satti comes for seven and half years. Saturn grips the mind meaning it grips the moon. Moon is considered as the mind of the person. During this period, saturn strikes the moon. In most of the cases saturn has a very severe effect on the ascendant. The person who does not believes in Astrology, starts believing the star in this phase. He acknowledges a special mental pressure on him. How does shani effects the saturn- Usually this can be predicted by where the moon is situated, which dasha is going on, how good is saturn and how is saturn in the horoscope. Rahu and Ketu are two modes of Moon and they are regarded as full-fledged planets in Astrology. They are considered as most dreaded planets. Rahu is the Dragon's head and Ketu as Dragon's tail. Both of them form a malefic yoga, known as Kal-Sarp Yoga. The houses which are seen related to diseases and sufferings are 6th , 8th and 12th house. First we will study which planet is linked to which disease . If sun and moon are in second houes and they are seen by mars and saturn with vision then there will be problem in the left eye of the ascendant or there will be complete damage of the left eyes. If sun and moon are sitting in the twelth house and they are seen by saturn or mars then the right eye will efected or completely damaged. If sun and moon are not in the second or twelth house, but second house or twelth house are seen by mars and saturn, chances of eye damage are still there. It all depends upon the intensity of second or twelth house being effected by bad planets Problem in ears- Third house resembles left ear and eleventh house right ear. if the third house is seen by bad planets such as saturn and mars then chances of ear being effected or damage is possible. Sun & Mars represents Fire, Moon & Venus represents Water, Mercury represents Earth ,Saturn represents Air Jupiter represents - aasmaan/aakash Problem in Stomach- if sun , mars, saturn, rahu or ketu is sitting in fifth house, they give problem in stomach. Because fifth house is linked with stomach Problem in sexual intercource - if Venus is in eight house and is being seen by planets like mars, saturn, rahu or ketu. Chances of problem in sexual intercourse increases. Problem of TB - if Jupiter is in eight house or sixth house
Foreign house is seen from twelfth house. We are focusing on this house because lot many people in India dream of settling in developed countries. Many houses play a significant role in determining of foreign settlement. How to consider whether person will settle abroad or not? If he settles down, whether he will be successful or not? The first and foremost house to be considered is the lagan/ascendant house. If the ascendant is being seen by bad planets, or the lord of lagan is sitting with bad planets then he will be having very weak personality. Person with weak personality does not hold any power to fulfill their dreams. Their desires remain unfulfilled. So the chance of foreign settlement becomes less. But never predict anything by just seeing only one aspect. The second house to be considered is the twelfth house. Twelfth house represent foreign settlement, money from foreign countries and comforts obtained in foreign country. If twelfth house is strong ( A house gets strong if lord of twelfth house is sitting in kendar or trikon , either in his own house, friend house or is Exalted, or twelfth house is seen by good planets ) then the ascendant is having strong chances of settling abroad. The third house which we should see is fourth house. Fourth house represents mother, own house and comforts in house. If the fourth house is strong (Strong house is explained above), then the chances of settling in foreign becomes less, because he is getting enough comforts in his own home/city/country. In a horoscope where fourth house is weak, that stands a good chance of settling abroad. The fourth consideration is ninth house. Ninth house represent Luck and Travel. If he travels, how fruitful the journey is? Is the Individual luck strong enough? This all is seen from ninth house. If ninth house is strong, then strong chances of travel are indicated. Now we shall explain various other factors which are considered. All the planets indicate whether they represent movable nature (char), Immovable nature (achar), mix of movable and Immovable nature (Dwi Swabhav).

Immovable ( Achar ) Mix of Movable & Immovable (Dwiswabhav )

Movable ( Char) Aries (1) Taurus (2) Cancer (4) Leo (5) Libra (7) Scorpio (8) Capricorn (10) Aquarius (11)

Gemini (3) Virgo (6) Saggittarius (9) Pisces (12)

If the ascendant is having sign as Aries (1) and lord of its which is Mars is also sitting in Movable sign which is Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. Then the person will travel a lot in his life. He would be involved in a job/Business which involves lot of journeys. If the ascendant is having sign as Aries (1) and lord of its which is mars is sitting in Immovable sign which is Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius. Then person will not travel much in his life. If the ascendant is having sign as Aries (1) and lord of its which is mars is sitting in Mix of Movable and Immovable sign which is Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces. Then he will travel but not much frequently in his life. If the ascendant is having immovable(Achar) sign such Taurus(2), Leo(5), Scorpio(8) or Aquarius(11) and lord of that is sitting in Immovable sign then person will not do any travel and will earn his living at one place. Similarly the prediction can be made by seeing where the ascendant lord is placed.

Panchang
Although it is essential to have the knowledge of arithmetical calculations to understand Indian Astrology, but for the benefit of the common people, astrologers have devised a calendar ( Panchang ) with the help of which, and simple arithmetical calculations, one can have knowledge about planets, good or bad for him. It is not necessary for a common man to be an astrologer in order to understand the Panchang. But for a smooth and systematic running of life, one should know how to interpret ' Phalita '. Panchang means five organs to understand the Phalita. These five things are

Tithi (Date) Nakshatra (Group of stars) Yoga (an auspicious moment) Karan (Half of the part of Tithi) Vaar (days of the week)

TITHI
Tithi is considered as the first phase or portion ( Kala ) of the 16 phases of the Moon. The 15 days, commencing from Amavasya (the last day of the dark half of a lunar month) to Purnima (Full moon), are called the Tithis of the Shukla-Paksha (brighter phase) and the days commencing from Purnima to Amavasya are called Krishna Paksha (darker phase). In Indian Astrology, the calculation of the Tithis starts from Pratipada (The first day in each half of the lunar month) of the Shukla-Paksha. They are: Pratipada. Dwitiya. Tritiya. Chaturthi. Panchami. Shashthi. Saptami. Ashtami. Navami. Dashami. Ekadasi. Dwadashi. Trayodashi. Chaturdashi. Purnima. Similarly, in the Krishna-Paksha , starting from Pratipada till Chaturdashi, all the dates are same; the only difference being the fifteenth day which is Amavasya (Moonless night) These fifteen days have been given five names. NANDA( 1st,6th,11th & Friday ) BHADRA( 2nd,7th,12th & Wednesday ) JAYA( 3rd,8th,13th & Tuesday ) RIKTA( 4th,9th,14th & Saturday ) PURNA( 5th,10th, 15th & Thursday ) If the above mentioned days falls on the given Tithis it is considered as auspicious and the work taken in hand in successfully accomplished. For example (if, 1st, 6th 11th falls on Friday, 2nd, 7th, 12th falls on Wednesday etc.)

INAUSPICIOUS DAYS:

The following days (Tithis) are considered to be inauspicious, and there is a fear of hurdles, obstructing the accomplishment of the work. The names of these auspicious days have been given as follows:

The dates are considered to be inauspicious if it falls on the following days

SUNMONTUEWEDTHURFRISAT DAGDHA 12 11 5 3 6 8 9 VISHA 4 6 7 2 8 9 7 HUTASHAN12 6 7 8 9 10 11

If 12th day and 4th day of the months falls on Sunday and 11th & 6th falls on Monday and 5th & 7th falls on Tuesday respectively, they are considered as inauspicious. NAKSHATRA (CONSTELLATION) A group of stars is called Nakshatra . Just as the units used for measuring the distance is miles or kilometers in the same way the space (Akash Mandal) is measured in terms of Nakshatras (group of stars). The whole space has been divided into 27 parts and each part has been given the name of Nakshatra. They are as follows ASHWINI. BHARANI. KRITIKA. ROHINI. MRIGASHIRA. AARDRA. PUNARVASU. PUSHYA. AASLESHA. MAGHA. PURVA PHALGUNI. UTTARA PHALGUNI. HASTA. CHITRA. SWATI. VISHAKHA. ANURADHA. JYESHTHA. MOOLA. POORVAASHADHA. UTTARAASHADHA. SHRAVANI. DHANISTHA. SHATABHISHA. PURVA BHADRAPADA. UTTARA BHADRAPADA. REVATI. The Indian astrologers believe that the combination of the last 15 Ghati of 'Uttarashadha Nakshatra' and the first 4 Ghati of the Shravani Nakshatra i.e. 19 Ghatis in all, constitute the ' Abhijeet Nakshatra ' and this particular Nakshatra is considered to be very auspicious to begin a good work.

(One Ghati is equal to 24 minutes) PANCHAKA NAKSHATRA The following group of five Nakshatras are considered as having five defects (Panchakadosha). They are Dhanistha , Shatabhisha , Purvabhadrapada , Uttarabhadrapada and Revati . MOOLA NAKSHATRA A child taking birth in this Nakshatra, which consists of Jyestha , Aashlesha , Revati , Mool , Magha and Ashwini Nakshatra are not considered as auspicious. Therefore, for the pacification of this 'Moola Nakshatra', some specific rites are performed 27th days after the birth when the same Nakshatra returns. Out of these six Nakshatras, which constitute Moola Nakshatra, Jyeshtha and Moola are called ' Gandant Moola ' and Aashlesha is called as ' Sarpa Moola '. ADHOMUKHA NAKSHATRA As the name of this Nakshatra implies, works like digging a well, or lying a foundation is considered as auspicious. This particular Nakshatra is itself constituted by Nakshatras. They are: Moola , Aashlesha , Vishakha , Kritika , Purvaphalguni , Purvashadha , Purvabhadrapada , Bharani and Magha DAGDHA NAKSHATRA For commencement of any work, this Nakshatra is considered as inauspicious. Therefore, commencing any work in this Nakshatra is prohibited if the days on which, this Nakshatra falls are as underSunday - Bharani Monday - Chitra Tuesday - Uttarashadha Wednesday - Dhanishtha Thursday - Uttaraphalguni Friday - Jyeshtha Saturday - Revati YOGA (COMBINATIONS) There are 27 Yogas in all. They are as under: 1) VISHAKUMBHA, 2) PREETI, 3) AAYUSHMAN, 4) SAUBHAGYA, 5) SHOBHANA, 6) ATIGANDA, 7) SUKARMA, 8) DHRITI, 9) SHOOLA, 10) GAND, 11) VRIDDHI, 12) DHRUVA, 13) VYAGHAATA, 14) HARSHANA, 15) VAJRA, 16) SIDDHI,

17) VYATIPAATA, 18) VARIYAANA, 19) PARIGHA, 20) SHIVA, 21) SIDDHA, 22) SADDHYA, 23) SHUBHA, 24) SHUKLA, 25) BRAHMA, 26) INDRA, 27) VAIDHRITI.

KARANA
Half of the part of a Tithi is called a Karana i.e. There are two Karanas in a Tithi. There are 11 Karanas altogether. They are:

5) GARA, 6) VANIJA, 7) VISHTI , 8) SHAKUNI, 9) CHATUSHPADA, 10) NAAGA, 11) KINSTUGHNA

1) BALA, 2) BAALAVA, 3) KAULAVA, 4) TAITIL,

The first 7 of these Karanas are movable (Chara) i.e. it cannot be predetermined as to on which dates, these are going to occur, but the last 4 Karanas are fixed (Sthira), and hence can be predetermined. VISHTIKARANA is also called ' Bhadra ' and commencing any work during this time is prohibited. Bhadra is marked very clearly in every panchanga. VAAR (DAYS)
There are 7 days i.e. Sunday (Ravivaar), Monday (Somavaar), Tuesday (Mangalvaar), Wednesday (Budhvaar), Thursday (Brihaspativaar), Friday (Shukravaar) and Saturday (Shanivaar). The counting of days begins from the sunrise of the first day to the sunrise of the second day. In astrology, this system is known as ' AHORATRA ', which means day and night taken together. Omitting the first letter 'A' and the last three letters 'T','R','A', the word ' HORA ' is coined from which, the English word 'HOUR' originated. There are 24 HORAS in all. Now the question arises, why is the day coming after Sunday is named Monday , Why not other day. To understand this, we will first have to understand the positions of the planets, in the space. In astrology, the respective position of the planets are given as under Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and Moon . Therefore, Saturn is the highest or the farthest planet. Below the Saturn is Jupiter, below Jupiter is Mars, below the Mars is Sun, below the Sun is Venus, below Venus is Mercury, and below Mercury is Moon. All the planets are revolving around the Sun in their respective orbits. Since there are 24 Horas in a day combined with night, therefore, each Hora consists of an hour. The Lord' of each Hora is a planet from the nearest lower orbit . The Lord of the first HORA is the Sun. In the beginning of the creation, the Sun was visible

first of all and for that very reason, it has been considered as the lord of the first Hora and also the first day has been named after it. The next Hora is named after 'Shukra' ( Venus, which is the lord of the second HORA , and whose orbit is just below the Sun. The lord of the third Hora is 'Budha' (Mercury) whose orbit is just below that of Shukra (Venus). The lord of the fourth Hora is the Moon (Chandrama), whose orbit is below that of Venus and so on. In this way, the lord of the 24th HORA is again Mercury and the Moon (Chandrama). The following chart clearly shows the positions of the planets (horizontally) in order, and the days of the week (vertically) in order. From the Hora chart, it is quite clear that the Moon is the lord of the first Hora (Hour) of the second day(Monday), hence the next day after Sunday is called Monday. Similarly, the lord of the first Hora of the third day is Mars (Tuesday), the lord of the first Hora of the fourth day is Mercury (Wednesday), the lord of the first Hora of the fifth day is Jupiter (Thursday), the lord of the first Hora of the sixth day is Venus (Friday) and the lord of the first Hora of the Seventh day is Saturn (Saturday). Therefore, the name of the days in order are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

GENTLE DAYS
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are considered as the 'gentle' days. These days are considered auspicious for commencing any good work.

CRUEL DAYS
Tuesday, Sunday and Saturday are considered as 'cruel' days. Saturday is considered an auspicious day for undergoing operation. Thursday is considered auspicious for starting education. Wednesday is considered auspicious to start any business

Kuja Dosham

Hindu astrology is universal and successfully predicted the fates of people for thousands of years. Many people who believe astrology, seriously take into consideration whether the bride and or groom have any Kuja (Mangala) Dosham (defective disposition of Mars) in their horoscopes. This aspect is widely discussed all over India and also by persons of Indian origin settled abroad. They go to consult astrologers; some astrologers may not be able to give correct advice due to their lack of depth of knowledge. Also this problem of Kuja dosham (defective disposition of Mars in the horoscope) is intricate and requires very careful assessment. We prepared this article to highlight the concepts properly, so that the readers are benefited by the clarifications. Let us consider two teenagers who like to get married; the girl is (say) Gouri (G) and the boy is (say) Bhaskar (B). Marriage is a social event of utmost importance; it is advisable to examine the horoscopes of both G and B and assess compatibility of both horoscopes before finalizing their marriage. While assessing the compatibility we have to examine the aspects pertaining to Kuja (Mars), Sukra (Venus) and Chandra (Moon). Mars (Kuja) is the planet which influences the sperm in males; Sukra (Venus) is the planet which influences the ovum in females; and moon causes sexual desire in the couple and urges them to copulate; he acts strongly on the minds of the couple. So these three planets Mars, Venus and Moon play vital role in the married life of B and G; and in general in all humans. Besides the presiding planet of marriage and conjugal life is Venus (Sukra). So the conjugal life of married couple is ruled by Mars; he can make their conjugal life enjoyable or miserable. The nature of Mars (Kuja) is fire. He is deemed to be malefic. He is the lord of two houses in the Zodiac, namely Mesham (Aries) and Vruschikam (Scorpio); Makaram (Capricorn) is house of Exultation (Utach) and Karkatakam (Cancer) is the house of debilitation for Mars. Budha (Mercury) is enemy to Kuja (Mars). Ravi (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Guru (Jupiter) are friends to Mars (Kuja; Mangala); Sani (Saturn) and Sukra (Venus) are neutrals (neither friend nor enemy) to

Mars. But Mars is enemy to Saturn. Mars is neutral to Raahu and Kethu. Venus and Mars are mutually neutrals. Sun and Mars are mutually friends. Mars is neutral to Moon. Mars and Jupiter are mutual friends. Mars has retrograde (vakra-gathi) motion and also stand-still (sthambhana) state. Due to this stand-still characteristic Mars (Kuja) can stay in a house (rasi) for more period than is usually destined). If Mars (Kuja) is ill-disposed in any horoscope, some remedies are prescribed in Hindu astrology. 1) Japam (recitation) or prayer to Lord Sri Subrahmanyam 7000 times. Sri Subrahmanya Swami is the presiding deity to Mars. 2) Wear a gold ring with a coral (pagadam) to the left hand ring finger (anamika). 3) Give (alms-offering) daanam 7 kgs. of redgram (Kandulu) to a temple-priest / purohit / Brahmin; the sincere practice of these three remedial measures can reduce the ill-effects. Now we explain briefly what is Kuja-dosham in the horoscopes of B and G: It is stated in Astrological texts, that the horoscope (birth chart) of a person has Kuja-dosham (defective disposition of Mars) if Mars is present in one of the following houses 1,2,4,7,8,12 counted from the house of birth (ascendant) and the house of Moon (rasi) and the house of Venus (Sukra). It is described as follows: LAGNAM (BIRTH HOUSE) is denoted as body; MOON is denoted as mind; SUKRA is deemed as giver of spouse & marriage causing planet. It is described in ancient Sanskrit text MUHOORTHA-CHINTHAMANI* : slokam : LAGNAE VYAYAECHA, PAATHALAE, JAMITHRAECHA, ASHTAMAE KUJAE STHREENAAM HARTHRU VINASAAYA: PUMSAA BHARYA VINASANAM; The famous ancient Saint-Astrologer Sri Agashtya Maharshi wrote in his text on Astrology, *AGASTYA SAMHITHA; DHANAE , VYAYEACHA, PAATHALAE, JAMITHRECHA, ASHTAMAE KUJA STHITHU, KUJADOSHAMUCHYATHAE; The ill-effect of Mars is strongest (100%) when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from the house of Venus (Sukra); the ill-effect of Mars is very strong (about 75%) when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from the house of Moon: the ill-effect of Mars is moderately strong (about 66%)when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from the house of birth (Janma-lagnam= ascendant). But 75% of the general astrologer are quacks and do not possess the depth of knowledge and experience in Astrology; so they explain the Kuja dosham taking the moon-position or lagnam as the starting point to count; this is not at all correct in our opinion. We must take the position of Venus (Sukra) as the reference house, because Sukra is the ruling planet for conjugal life and marriage. We give hereunder six horoscopes (birth-charts) to illustrate our explanations. We showed the positions of planets Moon, Mars and Venus and birth lagnam only. We also showed other planets which are in association (staying in the same house) with lagnam, Moon, Mars and Venus. We specified clearly, in each case, the nature of Kuja-dosham : is it from birth house (lagnam / ASC) or from Moons house (raasi) or from Venus house. Example: 1. Kuja-dosham is from Venus (Sukra). Denotes the planet is in retrograde motion. LAGNAM SATURN

The houses (bhaavas) 1,2,4,7,8,12 from Lagnam in the horoscope (birth chart) of B and G denote the following aspects. (a) 1. Lagnam is thanu-bhaavam (house of body). So lagnam denotes the health, sturdiness of body, appearance, and nature of the person. (b) 2nd house from Lagnam explains the family, happiness in home, riches and money, talking power, eyes, and death of the person. 4th house from Lagnam gives information about the persons education, own house, mother, car (vehicle), lands, and conjugal happiness. (d) the 7th house from lagnam tells about the persons spouse, mutual love and affection among the married couple, their health, lust, prostitution (adultery), sperm, ovum and death of the person (maarakam). (e) the 8th house tells about the persons longevity, and life -

style. (f) the 12th house from lagnam tells about expenditure, waste, characteristics / qualities, sexual happiness, losses, fame and moksham (liberation). If Mars (Kuja=Mangala) stays in any of these houses, we can assess how far these bhavaas are spoiled by Mars (malefic planet); so we can tell how far the persons horoscope is damaged & the ill effects caused to the person in his / her life. It is desirable to perform marriage of the girl G, (with Kuja-dosham) with the boy B with Kujadosham. Kuja-dosham must be present in both the horoscopes of B & G; or must be absent in both. If one person has Kuja-dosham in his/her horoscope and the other person has no kuja-dosham, it is not desirable to perform their marriage; then their conjugal life is affected; they suffer. According to Kerala Astrology, the woman G has Kuja-dosham and the man B has no Kuja dosham, and if Kuja period occurs in her youth years, her conjugal life is affected: her husband may die or get separated from her. During the past 40 years of my experience as Astrologer, I found this happened in the lives of dozens of married couple. Great sages of ancient times had profound knowledge of Hindu astrology; Atri, Narada and such Maharishis suggested some remedies and exemptions for this Kuja-dosham. Here we summarise some of those exemptions: There is no Kuja-dosham in any of the following case and Mars does not harm. The great Saint-Astrologers of ancient times mentioned in a slokam : ARKA, INDU KSHETHRA JATHANAM KUJA-DOSHO NA VIDYATHAE; SVA, UTCHA, MITHRA BHAJATHAANAM PEEDKO NA BHATH KUJA :

1. If Mars is in his own house; Mesham (Aries) and Vruschikam (Scorpio) are own houses for Mars 2. If Mars stays in one of his friends houses, Kuja dosahm is not applicable; Karkatakam (Cancer) is own house of Moon (Chandra); Simham (Leo) is own house of Ravi (Sun); Dhanasu (Sagittarius) and Meenam (Pisces) are own houses of Guru (Jupiter). 3. If Mars is in the own house of Sani; namely Makaram (Capricorn) and Kumbham (Aquarius). 4. Mesham (Aries), Karkatakam (Cancer), Thula (Libra), and Makaram (Capricorn) are movable signs (chara-raasis); if Mars stays in one of these houses and that chara-raasi (house) is 1, 2,4, 7, 8, 12th house from the house of birth (Lagnam) or the house of moon (raasi) or the house where Sukra (Venus) stays, there is no Kuja-dosham; Mars does not harm. 5. If Moon and Kuja are together in the same house, there is no Kuja dosham. 6. If Sani (Saturn) & Kuja (Mars), or if Kuja & Raahu or if Kuja & Kethu pair in same house. 7. If Mars & Guru (Jupiter),or Mars & Budha (Mercury) are together in the same house. Or if Guru or Budha are aspecting (seeing) Mars. 8. If a person is born in Karkatakam (Cancer), or Simham (Leo), or Makaram (Capricorn) lagna 9. If Mars is in 2nd house from the houses of Guru (Jupiter), Budha (Mercury) or Sani (Saturn). 10. If Sani (Saturn) is aspecting (seeing) Mars (Kuja). 11. If lagnam (birth house) or Moon (Chandra) or Sukra (Venus) is in the houses of Venus (Sukra), Vrushabham (Taurus) or Thula (Libra), and if Mars is in 4th or 7th house from the above.

12. If Mars is in 2nd or 12th house from lagnam (ASC) or Chandra (Moon) or Sukra (Venus) and those houses are own houses of Budha (Mercury), Mithunam (Gemini) or Kanya (Virgo). 13. If Mars (Kuja) is in 4th or 7th or 12th house from Lagnam (ASC) or Chandra (Moon) or Sukra (Venus) and those houses are own houses of Sukra (Venus), Vrushabham (Taurus) or Thula (Libra). 14. If Mars is in 8th house from lagnam, or Moon or Venus and that 8th house is the own house of Guru (Jupiter), Dhanasu (Sagittarius) or Meenam (Pisces). 15. The 7th house from lagnam (birth house=ASC=ascendant) is the house of spouse (kalathra); if Mars (Kuja) is in 7th house, the spouse may die in periods of Kuja (Mars). If that 7th house is Mesham (Aries) or Karkatakam (Cancer) or Vruschikam (Scorpio) or Makaram (Capricorn), no Kuja-dosha 16. Well-known astrologers of present times, Relangi, Tangirala, Pidaparthi Poornaih wrote in their Panchangams (Ephemeris) and books, that Kuja-dosham is not applicable if there is Kuja dosham from lagnam and from Moon house and Venus house all three houses in same horoscope.
Their opinion appears to be justified; but that opinion has no support from the standard works (writings) of great sages, and profound scholars of ancient astrology.

1. If Mars (Kuja) is in 12th house from lagnam, Moon or Venus, in both the horoscopes of the male B and female G, the remedy / exemption of Kuja-dosham in both horoscopes is same; the dosham (defect) in one horoscope is remedied by the dosham in the second horoscope. 2. Some astrologers are of opinion, that Mars in 1st, 4th or 8th house from lagnam, or Moon or Venus in horoscopes of the male B, does not harm the wife G. Similarly, the Mars in 2nd or 7th houses from lagnam, Moon or Venus in the horoscope of female G, does not harm her husband B. 3. Well-known contemporary astrologers and writers of Panchangam books published by Tirupathi-Tirumla Devasthanam of God Sri Venkateswara express their opinion as follows: o If Mars (Kuja) is in 2nd or 12th houses from lagnam, Moon, or Venus in the horoscopes of male B, Mars harms the person B , also his wife G in periods of Mars. o If Mars is in 4th or 7th houses from Lagnam, Moon or Venus in the horoscope of female G. also her husband B, Kuja harms in his periods. o If Mars in 8th house from the lagnam, Moon or Venus, in the horoscope of B or G, Kuja dosham exists and it harms the person B or G, in the periods of Mars.
During the past four decades, we studied many books and horoscopes carefully, but could not find uniformity of opinions among scholars; we found no guidelines to adopt from their books. Among the 6 examples, we gave above, there is Kuja-dosham in the horoscope chart of 2; by the position of Mars in the lagnam-house (ASC); the distance between Kethu and Kuja is considerable; the pairing effect of Kuja and Kethu is absent. In the other 5 examples, the Kuja dosham is remedied, due to the application of rules of exemption, we cited above. So it appears to us that there is no need to fear too much about Kuja dosham (mal-dispositon of Mars) in the horoscopes of bride and groom.
