NEHEMIAH 2:16-20 (CEV)
None of the city officials knew what I had in mind. And I had not even told any of the Jews not the priests, the leaders, the officials, or any other Jews who would be helping in the work. 17But when I got back, I said to them, Jerusalem is truly in a mess! The gates have been torn down and burned, and everything is in ruins. We must rebuild the city wall so that we can again take pride in our city.
16
Confession of Sins
Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins, our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You. Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You. Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives. We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed even our own Black brothers and sisters! Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your Name the praise forevermore. ****** To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming, and may God bless you.
Then I told them how kind God had been and what the king had said. Immediately, they replied, Lets start building now! So they got everything ready. 19When Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem the Arab heard about our plans, they started insulting us and saying, Just look at you! Do you plan to rebuild the walls of the city and rebel against the king?
18
I answered, We are servants of the God who rules from heaven, and he will make our work succeed. So we will start rebuilding Jerusalem, but you have no right to any of its property, because you have had no part in its history.

O God, we have been called to be a debt-free congregation. We are called to teach our community, children, and grandchildren the discipline of tithing, the power of budgeting, the blessing of saving, and the benefit of investing. We desire to live debt-free because it honors God and our ancestors, who died not for debt, but that we may live free with our God. Amen.

This Sunday, October 6th, we are trying to get as many members to Opt-In to
the Raise the Roof program as possible to make sure they receive relevant updates throughout the campaign.
RAISE THE ROOF
Special Opt-In cards have been placed in this bulletin. If you haven't already done so, fill out this card and turn it in to an usher or at one of the Raise the Roof tables in the Narthex following service, and you will be given the Raise the Roof campaign booklet. In the materials you receive you will find more information on Raise the Roof, as well as a pledge card and envelope. Once you have made your pledge decision, complete the card and return it to Trinity UCC Accounting (remember to take advantage of Automatic Giving/ACS to be sure your pledges are consistently applied). You can also contribute to our Raise the Roof campaign by offering your time and talents. During the course of the campaign there will be many opportunities to serve in various aspects of the campaign. Please sign up to volunteer at the Raise the Roof tables throughout the church. BEYOND OCTOBER
Presented by Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, and the Trinity UCC Can-Cer-Vive Ministry Hosted by Mrs. Monica Moss
Thursday, October 31, 2013 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Trinity UCC
Beyond October is a city wide initiative that aims to emphasize the importance of mammograms beyond breast cancer month and will help to ease waitlists by providing 800 free mammograms to uninsured women in Chicago. The Illinois program that provides free mammogram screenings to uninsured women does not have enough money to cover services for even 10% of those who need them. This leads to long waitlists and fewer women receiving mammograms, thereby increasing the amount of uninsured women in the city of Chicago walking among us with the possibility of having undiagnosed breast cancer. Their chance of survival decreases the longer these women go without a mammogram screening. The Task Force will continue to register women for free mammograms until the end of the year or until all free mammograms have been depleted. To sign up for your FREE mammogram at the kickoff event, visit www.chicagobreastcancer.org, or call 312-942-3368.
