Unison Scripture
NEHEMIAH 2:16-20 (CEV)
None of the city officials knew what I had in mind. And I had not even told any of the Jews not the priests, the leaders, the officials, or any other Jews who would be helping in the work. 17But when I got back, I said to them, Jerusalem is truly in a mess! The gates have been torn down and burned, and everything is in ruins. We must rebuild the city wall so that we can again take pride in our city.
16

Confession of Sins

Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins, our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You. Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You. Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives. We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed even our own Black brothers and sisters! Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your Name the praise forevermore. ****** To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming, and may God bless you.

Then I told them how kind God had been and what the king had said. Immediately, they replied, Lets start building now! So they got everything ready. 19When Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem the Arab heard about our plans, they started insulting us and saying, Just look at you! Do you plan to rebuild the walls of the city and rebel against the king?
18

I answered, We are servants of the God who rules from heaven, and he will make our work succeed. So we will start rebuilding Jerusalem, but you have no right to any of its property, because you have had no part in its history.

Stewardship Tithing Litany

Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Congregation: Minister: Together: Tithing is the biblical principle of returning 10% to God first. The earth is the Lords, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Debt is a spiritual issue. We are robbing Gods people when we live beyond our means, refuse to budget, invest, save, and tithe; we are seduced by debt. The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is Mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers. Tithing, budgeting, and stewardship are the solutions to the spiritual problem of debt. Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. Debt is fed by the desire for immediate gratification, poor planning, and the need to keep up appearances. RAISE THE ROOF His master replied, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your masters happiness! Tithing, saving, budgeting, and good stewardship of resources is the calling of all Christians. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Debt slavery has been used since 1863 to prevent people of African descent from gaining power and independence. Share with the Lords people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Our ancestors were forced into slavery. Today, we volunteer to be enslaved by debt and we mortgage our childrens future.

O God, we have been called to be a debt-free congregation. We are called to teach our community, children, and grandchildren the discipline of tithing, the power of budgeting, the blessing of saving, and the benefit of investing. We desire to live debt-free because it honors God and our ancestors, who died not for debt, but that we may live free with our God. Amen.

Raise The Roof

Then I said to them, You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace. . . . They replied, Let us start rebuilding. So they began this good work. Nehemiah 2:17-18 NIV

A City-wide Mammogram Screening Initiative

ANNOUNCEMENTS

BEYOND OCTOBER

Presented by Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force, and the Trinity UCC Can-Cer-Vive Ministry Hosted by Mrs. Monica Moss

Thursday, October 31, 2013 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Trinity UCC
Beyond October is a city wide initiative that aims to emphasize the importance of mammograms beyond breast cancer month and will help to ease waitlists by providing 800 free mammograms to uninsured women in Chicago. The Illinois program that provides free mammogram screenings to uninsured women does not have enough money to cover services for even 10% of those who need them. This leads to long waitlists and fewer women receiving mammograms, thereby increasing the amount of uninsured women in the city of Chicago walking among us with the possibility of having undiagnosed breast cancer. Their chance of survival decreases the longer these women go without a mammogram screening. The Task Force will continue to register women for free mammograms until the end of the year or until all free mammograms have been depleted. To sign up for your FREE mammogram at the kickoff event, visit www.chicagobreastcancer.org, or call 312-942-3368.
