TOPICS: CUTTING AND WELDING (FIRE PREVENTION) 1. Fire kills over thousands of people every year and injuries many more; it destroys jobs and property and costs millions of rupees in the payment of insurance claims. 2. The practical steps, which you can take to prevent fire, are a cost effective investment, which may bring great benefits. The large majority of fire can be prevented by taking simple precaution and by adopting safe working practice. 3. Every fire no matter how large the end result starts from a small beginning, but certain fundamentals are common to every incident. 4. Remember 3 factors are necessary for a fire (a) Heat (b) Oxygen (c) Fuel, if one factor is isolated or removed fire will be extinguished. 5. So to avoid unplanned fire in Gas Cutting activities, Keep all gas cylinders vertical and chained. Wet cloth should be placed upon the DA cylinder. Every cylinder must be equipped with a flash back arrestor. Check all hose, hose connection, regulator and cutting torch before starting of work, use only hose clamp. Color code of Gas Cylinders and Hoses to be known to all (Refer attached sheet for color code) In no case the hoses to be interchanged. The key should always be near cylinder Check that dry grass is not nearby 6. For welding activity Notes: Maximum time of talk is 15 minutes Persons attending write / sign their names on the rear side of sheet / attached sheet. Check all electrical connection, Use proper industrial plug Generator is earthed properly (Copper cable with brass pin which is required to be inserted in soil, the soil is required to be made wet using water) Welding cable is insulated properly Ensure that holders are having insulation on electrode holder, Proper earthing to the job (not loose, it should not be of broken file but preferably of same material as that of job), Working area must be free from combustible material, proper cable management, no power cable or gas hose should be coiled with welding cables, hot electrode piece must not be thrown here and there. In pay welder no leaked diesel / oil is collected
