John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England. His mothers name was Julia and his fathers name was Freddie. John didnt live with his parents. He lived with Aunt Mimi and Uncle George, but his mother visited him often. When he was seventeen, his mother died. John wasnt a good student at school, but he was good at art and he loved music. His Aunt Mimi bought him his first guitar and he learned to play it by himself. In 1960 he started a group called The Beatles with Paul McCatney, Pete Best and George Harrison. They played in Liverpool, where their manager Brian Epstein discovered them. In 1962 John married his girlfriend of four years, Cynthia Powell and in 1963 their first son, Julian, was born. John married Yoko Ono in 1969. For their honeymoon, they stayed in bed for a week. This was their famous "Bed-In for Peace", the first of many political demonstrations. In 1975 John and Yokos son, Sean, was born. Lennon was forty when he died. He was tragically assassinated next to his New York apartment building on December 8, 1980. He left behind an enormous legacy, not only as a musician, but as a writer, actor and activist.
