nance with the target to define the
relevant measures and to deliver
reliable economic estimation figures.
Historical records are used to evaluate
the most critical components.
Step 2: Detailed elaboration of the
potentials defined in Step 1 in a way
that allows accurate cost estimates.
This procedure minimizes costs and
time so that the customer has a
control on the assessment costs with
regard to his needs. Step 2 will end
with a detailed report including the
recommendations.
Scope Extension
Although the STEP| packages start
from a similar assessment platform,
they differentiate in their targets.
However, a combination of different
STEP| products remains possible
and may lead to an enlarged
strategic view.
STEP| Specific Technical Evaluation of Plants
Each power plant has its own set of risks associated with the condition of the equipment due to the
specific operation conditions and the relevant maintenance regimes. Therefore different assessment
tools are required to structure potential future plant investments in an optimum way. While in some
markets mergers and divestures lead to an increased change of asset ownership, other markets
show a strong growth in electricity demand. In all cases operators try to optimize the power output
and the lifetime of their plants.

Based on the different market
patterns ALSTOM Power Service
has developed the STEP| approa-
ches that offer a systematic methodo-
logy to determine the technical
situation of fossil fired power plants
and to provide specific solutions.
Based on the different specific
customer requirements ALSTOM
offers different STEP| packages:

Analysis of plant capabilities and
development of potentials to
increase the capacity for specific
components.
STEP|S Status
Analysis of plant status and tech-
nical due diligence for plant equip-
ment.
STEP|L Lifetime
Analysis of plant lifetime potential.
STEP|R Re-Design
Re-work of systems according to
changed conditions or simply the
state of the art technology.
In all products of the STEP| series
the theoretical assessment forms
the basic analysis. Our experience
with capacity increase -, status
assessment- and lifetime extension
studies shows that a procedure
