How does Allen Curnow express his ideas through his poem Time?

Throughout the poem time Allen Curnow expresses his ideas in many different ways such as time, how it affect us and our surroundings. Every example in the poem is unique; most are based on experiences in life and the five senses of poetry. The Author does this by placing himself in the position of time itself through describing objects in other words, I am, and describing I am as the time. The poem also tries to explain the very difficult matter of what time actually is. The writer conveys his poem by describing many themes that represent time in metaphors. For example, I am nine o clock in the morning when the office is clean. This description gives you an idea of an image of whats it like in the morning and The next line, I am the slap of the belting and the smell of the machine, is about factories working throughout the day. For the first four stanzas, every line starts with I am who is Allen Curnow and he uses himself to describe the atmosphere. For example; I am the nor west air nosing among the pines, also I am dust, I am distance, I am lupins back of the beach. He also describes everyday routine as he states I am cows called to milking and the magpies screech and I am nine oclock in the morning when the office is clean. Stanzas five to six the writer mostly focuses on saying that time is everything, and he does this by using strong words such as I, time, am all these, yet these exist. Stanza seven uses various examples. am island, am sea, am father, farm and friend. This line illustrates that time has replaced itself as father and friend. Then it ends with a conclusion stating the Beginning and the End which tells us that time is the beginning and the end! Time is also memory in other words we remember life experiences through time. The poem tries to explain the very difficult matter of what time is actually is by mentioning many different aspects of life to tell us (readers) the explanation of time that it is always present in everything, everywhere, constantly and continuously. Time is everything, and everything is time. Now we understand that he doesnt just explain what time is, as in past, present and future but everything around us by stating a list of all kind of different things. For example; things that is in earth such as dust, mist, mountains, rust cows, magpies, lupins, beaches, islands, etc. Intangible things such as time, distance, smell, sounds AND to humans that we brought into our lives such as machines, parks, music, cars, farms, etc. The writer uses these aspects of life to give us more understanding of time but I personally think that it confuses me in a way of defining time. But as you get the understanding of the poem, it does make sense referring of what time is. In my opinion hes just trying to encompass time. The writer portrays by expressing ideas that time is always present in everything, everywhere and how you cannot escape time! By Giovanni P.
