Drug Coamoxicla v

Dosag e 625m g 1tab 2x a day

Classification Action amoxicillin and enzyme inhibitor ; Belongs to the class of penicillin combinations , including betalactamase inhibitors. Used in the systemic treatment of infections. - An antibiotic that combines amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. It destroys bacteria by disrupting their ability to form cell walls. - Clavulanic acid blocks the chemical defence, known as betalactamase, that some bacteria have against penicillins. l Co-amoxiclav is active against bacterial infections that have become resistant to amoxicillin.

Contraindication Penicillin hypersensitivi ty. -History of coamoxiclavassociated or penicillinassociated jaundice or hepatic dysfunction.

Side effect Dizziness, headache, Diarrhea, Colitis, Indigestion, Nausea and vomiting, Hypertension.

Adverse Effect Convulsion,Hepatitis, Cholestatic jaundice, stevens Johnson syndrome, epidermal necrolysis, Angiodema, Exfoliative dermatitis, urticarial rash, Erythematous rash, reversible thrombocytopenia, reversible hemolytic anemia.

Nursing responsibilities - Assess bowel pattern before and during treatment as pseudomembranous colitis may occur. - Report haematuria or oliguria as high doses can be nephrotoxic. - Assess respiratory status. - Observe for anaphylaxis. - Ensure that the patient has adequate fluid intake during any diarrhoea attack.

Drug Salbutam ol (Solben)

Dosage 2mg 1 tab 3x a day

Classification salbutamol ; Belongs to the class of adrenergic inhalants, selective beta2adrenorecepto r agonists. Used in the treatment of obstructive airway diseases.

Action Relaxes smooth muscles by stimulating beta2-receptors, thereby causing bronchodilation and vasodilation

Contraindication Hypersensiti vity to adrenergic amines Hypersensiti vity to fluorocarbon s

Side effect Nervousness, Restlessness, Insomnia, Chest pain, Angina, Arrhythmias, Hypertension, Hyperglycemi, Hypokalemia, Nausea and vomiting,

Adverse effect tremor, anxiety, headach e, muscle cramps, dry mouth, and palpitation.

Nursing Responsibilities -Advice pt not to chew or crushed extended release tablet or mix them with food. -Administer with food

Drug furosemi de

Dosage 40mg 1 tab Once a day

Classification furosemide ; Belongs to the class of highceiling sulfonamide diuretics.

Action Furosemide,Inhi bits reabsorption from the ascending loop of Henle in the renal tubule.

Contraindication Severe sodium and water depletion, hypersensitiv ity to sulphonamid es and furosemide, hypokalaemi a, hyponatraem ia, precomatose states associated with liver cirrhosis, anuria or renal failure. Addisons disease.

Side effect Hyponatraemia, hypokalaemia, hypomagnesae mia, hypochloraemic alkalosis, Increased calcium excretion,hypot ension, nausea and dizziness.

Adverse effect - Gastrointestinal upset, Hyperuricaemia, Gout, Hyperglycaemia, Rash, and Photosensitivity.

Nursing Responsibilities -Administer with food - Advise patients not to stop taking furosemide without consulting the prescribing health care professional. -Explain to patients that furosemide controls high blood pressure but does not cure it and therefore they need to continue with the medication even if they feel well.

Drug Dexamet hasone

Dosage 4mg 1 tab Once a day

Classification Anti inflammatory Glucocorticoi d

Action Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid which decreases inflammation by inhibiting the migration of leukocytes and reversal of increased capillary permeability. It suppresses normal immune response

Contraindication

Side effect Euphoria,insom nia, psychotic behavior, pseud otumor cerebri, arrythmias,thro mboembolism. cataracts, glaucoma. GIirritation, increased appetite, pancre atitis,increase urine glucose,and calcium levels

Adverse effect headache, seizures, hypertension, edema, peptic ulceration, nausea,vomiting, and depression.

Nursing Responsibilities -Tell patient not to stop drug abruptly or without prescribers consent. -Instruct patient to take drug with food -Warn the pt. about easy bruising
