1. Today you will be taking on the role of cardiologist/diagnostician and use a variety of tools to diagnose heart disorders. Go to http://www.hhmi.org/biointeractive/vlabs/cardiology/ 2. After reading through the introduction, click the picture on the left to enter the Virtual Cardiology Lab 3. Before beginning your assessment of Patient A, read through the two books on the table (Cardiology Guide and Diagnostic Tools Guide). 4. Once you have read both guide books, click on the door to enter the examination room and begin. 5. Answer the 3 questions on the first quiz, then hit submit. Copy and paste your results into a Microsoft Word Document. 6. Click on the patient to listen to his heart with a stethoscope. Remember the 5 areas used to listen to heart sounds. Make sure your sound is turned up! 7. Compare the Patients heartbeat with the normal reference heartbeat. Answer the following questions in your Word Document. a. What is your conclusion? b. Why did you conclude this? c. What is the correct conclusion? 8. Click on the door to continue into the Echocardiography room. 9. Take the Echocardiography quiz. Copy and paste your results into your Word Document. 10.Perform the Echocardiogram (the red line indicates the diameter of the Aorta) and compare it with the normal reference echocardiogram. Answer the following questions in your Word Document. a. What is your conclusion? b. Why did you conclude this? c. What is the correct conclusion? 11. Click the door to move into the MRI room. 12. Take the MRI quiz. Copy and paste your results into your Word Document.

13. Perform the MRI and compare the patients MRI to the normal reference MRI. Answer the following questions in your Word Document. a. What is your conclusion? b. Why did you conclude this? c. What is the correct conclusion? 14. Click the door to continue to the Pedigree Analysis. 15.Take the Pedigree Analysis Quiz. Copy and paste your results into your Word Document. 16. Examine the Pedigree Analysis chart. Answer the following questions in your Word Document. a. What is your conclusion? b. Why did you conclude this? c. What is the correct conclusion? 17. Click on the door to proceed to the final diagnosis and treatment. 18. Using the Encyclopedia of Selected Diseases and Symptoms, diagnose your patient and answer the following questions in your Word document. a. What is your diagnosis? b. What led you to this diagnosis? c. What other information would have been helpful in diagnosing this patient? d. What was the correct official diagnosis? e. Copy and paste the results of your diagnosis submission into your Word Document. 19. Continue the lab with Patients #2 and #3. You may skip the quizzes. Please record the following in your Word Document, for each patient, and each of their diagnostic tests and your diagnoses: a. Diagnostic Tests: i. Your Conclusion ii. Copy and paste the results of your diagnosis submission into your Word Document 20.Once you have completed your examinations and diagnoses for all three patients, copy and paste your lab status and quiz summary into your word document. 21.Finally, write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) for each patient describing what you found interesting, what confused you, what you learned, etc. 22. Print your document (make sure to include your FULL NAME and the title VIRTUAL CARDIOLOGY LAB at the top of your page) 23. To be handed in Wednesday, December 12.
