Agile Simulation Videos

Videos: 23 Videos |

Availability: Now |3.25 PMI PDUs

Cost: $147/person $99 current special

Duration: 3 hrs 20 min | Level: Intermediate |

Watch as a team goes through many of the Agile Lifecycle activities using a sample Agility Insurance project example. The goal is to enhance learning by watching a team simulating the many Agile practices step by step so that the learner can grasp the concepts and have a model for applying them. 1. Meet the Agile Team
Meet our Agile Team! Watch the Agile Simulation team members introduce themselves (notice the funny titles) and describe how they will be contributing towards the team's success.

2. Agile Lifecycle Overview

This video provides a brief overview of the Agile Lifecycle for projects so you have a big picture view of where and when some of the activities we will be going through are performed.

3. Purpose, Agenda, Team Norms

Before our Agile Simulation team can jump into solving the 'Agility Insurance' business needs, we need to set the foundation of the meetings for success by establishing team/meeting norms and be clear on the purpose and agenda for our meetings.

4. Product Vision Box Exercise 5. Visioning Continued..

Continuing our visioning discussion for the Agility Insurance project and moving into a conversation about Measures for Success (or project level acceptance criteria).

6. Stakeholder Analysis
Have you ever executed a project only to find out you are missing an important stakeholder? This video will cover the team using a Stakeholder Context Diagram to analyze the stakeholders of a project and determine what level of engagement they should have for each of them. This is a simple yet very effective exercise to perform at the beginning of a project/release to identify all the necessary players for your project.

7. User Personas
Take your understanding of your users needs to the next level by going through the exercise of analyzing and developing personas that represent your target users/audience. Our team will go through and collect the basic information necessary for analyzing personas for our Agility Insurance project.

8. Case Diagrams
Our team continues their elicitation and visioning of high level requirements using Agile modeling techniques.

AgileVideos.com Module List

Use Case Diagrams are standard UML artifacts that are very helpful for analyzing a system that has several 'actors' that have 'goals' they need to achieve. Using this technique you are helping your customer think of their requirements from the perspective of the end user who needs specific capabilities delivered.

9. Process Diagram and UI Flow

Watch our team members as they draw out a Process Diagram and a UI (User Interface) Flow Diagram to better vision and understand their customer's needs. Using these Agile Modeling techniques is a powerful tool because customers usually don't know what they want until they begin to 'see' it. These methods also engage them in activities that are easy to learn and apply.

10. Building the Backlog/Writing User Stories

Now that we have visioned our product, it's time to build and organize our backlog with Themes>Features>User Stories! We will discuss the levels of Agile Requirements and how you are doing value based decomposition to slice large Epics into smaller deliverables that can be achieved within an iteration. We can spend an entire day on this specific topic of writing good user stories but this video's goal is to give you an overview and an example of what stories for our 'Agility Insurance' project could look like.

11. Story Slicing

Did you know that breaking down Epics/ slicing stories to smaller chunks is probably one of the top things teams struggle with when moving to Agile? Working on large chunks of deliverables (Epics) causes delays, results in more rework and causes missed requirements (acceptance criteria). Smaller stories also allow your Product Owner to prioritize and only focus the team on the highest value slices of work. Our simulation team will attempt to break down a few of their Epics into smaller stories.

12. Non-Functional Foundation Stories

Too many teams only focus on gathering functional stories (what their Customer/Product Owner requested) and often forget about other types of stories such as: technical/foundational stories, spikes and proof of concept stories, business change management stories (training, marketing, process changes) and non-functional acceptance criteria such as usability, flexibility, scalability (all the 'ilities'). The team in this video will attempt to gather some of their technical foundational stories they need for their project.

13. Prioritization/Ranking
Prioritization in Agile is not as simple as considering business value alone. An Agile team needs to take dependency and risk into consideration when ranking an ordering the backlog. Watch our simulation team go through a quick exercise of backlog prioritization ranking.

14. Story Point Sizing 15. Release Planning 16. Iteration Pre-Planning/Backlog Grooming 17. Sprint Planning Meeting 18. Mid Iteration Activities
Watch how the Agile Team collaborates with each other during the iteration! Product Owner and others are getting ready for the next iteration, Architect and developer are designing together and other team members are

pairing on solving a problem.

19. Team Interruption During Iteration

Watch as the team gets interrupted during the middle of the iteration and how the ScrumMaster reacts! A sponsor/VP walks in and has a 'quick fix for a report' she wants done. Since she needed this done quickly, Kellie our ScrumMaster gently reminded her of the team rules and suggested to help find another team or person who can complete the new story. Another popular approach is to ask her to add it to the backlog and have the Product Owner prioritize it and decide when the team should pull it.

20. Conflict Management Using Team Norms 21. Dysfunctional Daily Stand-Up
A very funny video that shows all the crazy things that could happen during the daily Agile/Scrum stand-up meeting! Watch this video with your team and try to identify the dysfunctions then spark a conversation about your own team stand-up meeting. PLEASE NOTE one thing we missed during the more functional meeting is that the team should put up a parking lot chart for capturing post-standup discussion items.

22. Demo
Watch how the Agile Team collaborates with each other during the iteration! Product Owner and others are getting ready for the next iteration, Architect and developer are designing together and other team members are pairing on solving a problem.

discussion on Servant Leadership and how to move your team through these stages. 3. Servant Leadership Commanding, controlling and directing people down to their task level or on the other side allowing team members do what they want when they want it with no vision or boundaries are both examples of the two extremes of the leadership spectrum. This video will provide a short overview of how Servant Leadership attempts to find a balance in the middle by focusing on growing people and thereby growing high performing teams. 4. Shifting Toward Servant Leadership Now that we have discussed what Servant Leadership is about, the question is how do you begin to shift to this style of leadership? Honestly, we can spend two full days just on this topic but this short video will give a few tips on beginning your journey towards becoming a Servant Leader. 5. Self-Organizing Teams What does it mean to be a self-organizing team? some think this term refers to a team that doesn't need any leadership or management ... Not True! Through this video we will discover what this term means and why self-organization is one of the most critical (if not THE TOP) attribute of a high performing team. 6. Understanding Team Motivators What motivates your team depends on so many factors, one of them could be their generation or age group. Understanding what motivates each member individually and then aligning people's private goals with the team and organization goals requires pretty strong leadership skills. 7. Team Forming Stage This video will cover the most important things you should do as a leader or team member during the FORMING stage of your team to set up the team for success. Many teams survive for years without these elements and suffer from various dysfunctions due to this. It is never too late to re-form and go through these activities even for a mature team. 8. Team Norms and Agreements Does your team have explicit norms and agreements that they have defined? if not, then chances are your team does have implicit norms that are emerging based on what your team considers 'acceptable behaviors'. Team norms are at the HEART of setting up a healthy team OR repairing dysfunctional team behavior so let's explore what they are about!

9. Team Storming Stage Storming is the FUN stage, where all the drama and conflict occurs :) So how do we know we're in storming? what is your role as a leader or team member to help your team get out of storming and move to the more healthy 'Norming' stage? This video and some of the next ones will tackle this important topic. 10. One on One Coaching Tips Do you have those weekly one on one meetings with your manager or your own employees and wondering how you can effectively use that time? Many use this meeting for a quick status report or problem solving but miss the opportunity for coaching. This video provides a simple coaching tool that helps you focus on three important areas during these one on one meetings. 11. Emotional Intelligence This video will cover the most important things you should do as a leader or team member during the FORMING stage of your team to set up the team for success. Many teams survive for years without these elements and suffer from various dysfunctions due to this. It is never too late to re-form and go through these activities even for a mature team. 12. Correcting Dysfunctional Team Member Behavior One of the most frustrating things teams complain about is having a specific team member who is allowed to get away with dysfunctional behavior that doesn't align with team norms. Many teams say that dominant team members or ones who use commanding or abusive language or ones who are low performers and never show up on time really drag down the entire team moral. So what can you do about it? My suggestion is to face this problem and have a frank one on one conversation instead of avoiding it. If you are a leader, it is your role to address this. If you are a team member, you can learn some of these crucial conversation skills and use them yourself when appropriate. 13. Resolving One on One Conflict Do you have some conflict and baggage sitting below the surface with another team member? Have you tried to let go of this issue but it keeps coming back in your heart/mind or in their actions to where it has now affected your relationship with them and how you work together? This video will walk you through some tips on how to have a crucial conversation with this person and begin to address this issue without confrontation. 14.
