Sample Policy
Generic Sample Same day
A generic sample is a previously manufactured item that can be used as an effective tool in finalizing a sale
with your client. Holdi Designs is glad to supply you and your client with a generic sample free of charge,
upon receiving your courier number and destination address.
Holdi Designs provides free pre-production samples at no charge for orders of 5000 units or more.
Important: Please note that our factories do their utmost to ensure that an order is produced to the precise
specifications of a client. For clients who choose not to request a pre-production sample, however,
Holdi Designs is not responsible if color or positioning slightly varies from the original.
Terms
Terms of Payment
Our payment process is based on a deposit and term payment method. This enables us to offer the best
possible prices. Failure to pay a deposit or overdue balance within the agreed upon time frame,
forfeits not only your credit with Holdi Designs, but also the opportunity for yourself and others to benefit from
the lowest possible pricing. Any overdue account will incur an additional 12% annual administration
fee beginning from the first day that the account is overdue.
Approvals
All clients receive a paper proof and if requested, a pre-production sample. A fee of 200.00 (two hundred dollars)
is charged for all pre-production samples made for orders of 2,500 units or less. Once approval is obtained
from a paper proof, a pre-production sample will be manufactured, or production will begin, according
to the client’s wishes. As stated in our production process terms, (see following page) further charges will
be incurred for changes made after an approval is given to proceed to production. Since custom made
moulds (with a cost of 1000$,) are designed and made for each individual order, changes cannot be
easily made after an approval has been given without incurring further charges and delays.
Claims
If merchandise is defective, you must notify Holdi Designs within 15 days of delivery in order to make a claim.
If the defect is due to a production and/or manufacturing error, (as opposed to misuse), Holdi Designs may
either replace or issue credit to the client at our discretion upon our inspection of the merchandise. If you
require Holdi Designs to perform testing and/or inspections on your goods (i.e each unit within your order),
inspection fees will apply on a pro-rata basis. (I.E if 98% of your order is found to be in good condition,
the fees will be based on that percentage.)
Printing Errors: Credit is offered for defects with an “off-registration” that EXCEEDS 2mm. Off-registrtion within
the 2mm limit is considered normal. Handles: A 100 % pantone match cannot be guaranteed for webbing
handles for orders under 10,000 units. Handles in the desired color are actually pre-made and purchased
for orders under 10,000, (which may mean a very slight color variation). The handles are dyed (ensuring an
exact pantone match) for orders that exceed 10,000 units.
Labels: By default, all units include an inside Holid Designs label. If clients request their own label they must
advise Holdi Designs in writing BEFORE production (preferably with the Purchase Order request) and provide
artwork for their label promptly. Inserting client labels is a free service offered by Holdi Designs.
Holdi Designs will not be held responsible for defects with regard to a client’s personal inside label.
While credits are offered for defective bags, Holdi Designs cannot refund bags or mould charges, shipping,
air, or inspection charges, for otherwise intact bags in good condition, due to an inside label that is deemed
unsatisfactory by the client.
Samples
Holdi Designs reserves the right to produce extra units during production for their own use. These samples
then become the property of Holdi Designs and can be used for, but not limited to, tradeshows, catalogues,
website display etc.
Production process
PRODUCTION PROCESS FOR POLYPROPYLENE WOVEN MATERIAL
The first step in PP bag production is manufacturing the actual material, an intricate and complex process.
Recycled polypropylene particles are melted and made into plastic sheets. The sheets are then fitted
around drums and then cut into 3/16” wide strips. The strips themselves are then made into rolls.
These rolls are then placed on a 2nd machine which weaves them into the actual pp woven material.
175 rolls are done at one time.
PP NON-WOVEN MATERIAL
The non-woven material is made up of a mix of recycled polypropylene particles and color additives to
achieve the desired color. These are melted together to form small drops which are then sprayed at a high
velocity onto a conveyor belt. The spraying is done to form sheets of porous polypropylene material which
is then pressed and bound together on a texturised drum. When the sheets are cut to form, the edges are
thrown back in for melting once again, avoiding any waste in the process. The thickness of the non-woven
material is determined by the density of the drops and the speed of the conveyor.
PRINTING MOULD
Printing moulds are used to achieve a 4 color process print. Making the moulds is a costly and time-consuming process.
New moulds are made from existing ones that have become rusty and inoperative. The clean-up process for
used moulds involves welding tops to both ends of the cylinder, and a second procedure for smoothing out
the surface. The mould is then washed and rotated in a copper solution for several hours. The mould is
now ready to be carved.
The prepared mould is then taken to an engraving machine that carves according to the diameter of the
cylinder and the size of the print. Following the engraving the mould is then rotated in a chrome solution to
further enhance the finish.
The mould is then tested for the print to make sure it matches the artwork.
It is important to realize that a different mould is required for each color in a print, therefore when a 4 color
process is required, 5 moulds must be made: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and White)
Production process
PRINTING
The printing process involves setting rolls of OPP film to a 7 color press with each color printed one by one. The film first goes around 6
steel drums before getting to the first color. It then goes between a smooth drum and the steel printing mould. The printing mould is in
contact with a drum that bathes in the ink color, therefore getting the ink on the carved areas of the mould. The ink is then transferred
to the OPP film. Once this step is done, the film goes through a low-temperature dryer section which dries the ink on the film instantly
(it is important for the dryer to be low-temperature, otherwise the film would melt).
This process is repeated for each color to be printed on the bag (a 4 color process therefore being printed 5 times, 1 for each
color + the color white). The difficulty here is to adjust the printing mould’s position so that every color is printed on register. To make
things even more difficult, OPP film can stretch, offsetting the colors out of register. This explains why each production will have
small off registration on some bags. Once all the colors are printed, the OPP films goes in front of a backlight so that the print worker
can see that everything is correct. It also allows the print worker to adjust the colors and alignment of each color.
It takes more than 1 hour and meters of film wasted to adjust the register and intensity of the colors.

LAMINATION
The lamination process is a relatively easy one. The rolls of printed OPP films are set
on the lamination machine with the rolls of material. They both go around a series
of steel drums and are joined together with molten polypropylene that is uniformly
poured between the OPP film and the material. The molten polypropylene acts
as a glue to stick the film and material together. Once they are pressed together between
2 steel drums to ensure a nicely finished flat material at the end, they are then rolled back
into laminated material rolls that will be ready to be cut and sewn.
Last but not least, the bags are sewn together with special sewing machines. The first step is to fold the top
of the main panels and then the handles are sewn on this panel. Once the handles are sewn, the gussets
are sewn to the main panel to produce a finished bag. Since sewing machines have a feeder where rolls
of bindings are loaded, these bindings are automatically put on the seam to reinforce it.
