Many researchers have been making attempts to develop the embedded controlled sensor network. The existing systems are bulky, very costly and difcult to maintain. The proposed system is cost effective and controlled by user friendly embedded systems. In the proposed system ARM based microcontroller and wireless sensors are used to control the various devices and to monitor the information regarding the environment using Zig bee and GSM technologies. Inde Terms- Embedded contoled sensor networks, Environment monitoring system. I. INTRODUCTION In the twenty frst century, there is revolution of the sensor networks which have also come up with various applications like surveillance, taffc contol, environmental and wildlife monitoring, agricultural application, home automation and industial process contol [1 ].Embedded controlled sensor networks (ECSN) are mainly designed to be application- specifc so that the energy consumption is minimum as the battery-powered nodes demand life-time of several months or even a few years. The architecture of a typical embedded controlled sensor network is shown in Figurel. Fig. 1 Embedded contolled sensor network The available technologies are Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, wireless mobile Ad-hoc network (WMANET), UMB, wireless HRT, Bluetooth and ZigBee. Embedded sensor networks are formed by communicating over wireless links without using a fxed networked infastucture contolled by microcontoller. Zigbee is the name for a short-range, low-power, low-cost, and low-data-rate wireless multi-hop networking technology. Block diagram of ECSN consists of a master circuit which is conected to number of sub networks consisting of the various slaves. Master circuit is connected by a personal computer which can be contolled by the interet. Wireless technologies for environmental monitoring and device contol in homes offers many benefts to the users. I T. METHODOLOGY Environment monitoring and device contol allows new level of comfort in homes and it can also manage the energy consumption effciently which in turs promotes the saving. Remote contolling of the devices offers many advantages to senior citizens and people with disabilities which helps them in being more autonomous and increasing quality of life. In addition to remote contol, monitoring temperature, food and carbon monoxide in homes is also a major concer. There is a severe need to monitor temperature or gases as they can be costly and deadly. A monitored low temperature sensor wars about feezing temperatures inside house. Also if the boiler, washer or pipes leaks in the home, it can cause considerable damage. Guangming Song (etc) [2] developed a wireless-controllable power outlet system. Researchers have worked on home automation and environmental monitoring system in the past but in the existing systems cost is high, size is an issue and they are diffcult to maintain [3][4][5][6]. The proposed system is cost effective and contolled by user fiendly embedded systems. The block diagram of the proposed system is as shown in fgure2. In this proposed system, we have designed one master module which consists of microcontoller, GSM module and Zigbee module. Three slave modules are designed using Sbit microcontoller and Zigbee module. Remote contol circuit is designed to control the various devices of home for short distance communication.GSM module is used for long distance control of devices and monitoring of environment of home. 978-1-4673-5301-4/13/$31.00 2013 IEE ARM Based Microcontroller MASTER GSM Module Zigbee Module r r r 1 I D r- - e D Microcontroller D Microcontroller Microcontroller v e e i 8 bit 8 bit vi 8 bit vi c c c Zig bee module Zigbee module e Zig bee module e e 1 2 1 3 ! - Light sensor or Humidity Temperature sensor Gas sensor Sensor Remote control for Devices/Appliances Fig.2 Block Diagram Tn master system, we have used AR7 based LPC21 48 microcontroller.LPC2148 is 32/1 6 bit microcontroller with embedded high speed fash memory of 51 2 KB.For GSM communication we have used STM300, which is a ti band GSM/GPRS engine. The STM 300 is integrated with the AT commands and are developed to use TCP/TP protocol easily, which is very usefl for data tansfer applications.GSM uses AT commands via its serial interface to contol the devices.Zigbee technology is used for wireless personal area networking. Zigbee technology offers simplicity and a cost effective approach to building, constuction and remodeling with wireless technology. The circuit diagram of the master network designed using the AR microcontoller, GSM module and Zigbee module is as shown below in fgure 3. Tn slave module we have used 89C51 microcontoller along with zigbee module and sensors for monitoring the environment. The various sensors which are connected with the slave module are gas sensor, humidity sensor, temperature sensor. The devices which are to required to be controlled remotely can be connected with the slave module. leu IIlrIMl .MJ mTmu PDJT.lml POIIW PIMl&T.1 N21!u VB J1m " mNV!+ 3J/ .1L.V11.z !!L!!L!.Wl! .Jd1!!J !1V1!.!.l .!W!1|k1J%J .l!11! Fig.S Remote contol circuit CONCLUSION This paper demonstates designing of embedded controlled sensor networks used for contolling the home devices as well as monitoring the environmental parameters. The features of GSM and Zigbee are explored to design the system for long distance as well as short distance .. Embedded contolled sensor networks have proven themselves to be a reliable solution in providing remote contol and sensing for indoor environmental monitoring systems. Three commercial sensors had been integrated with the system to monitor and compute the level of existence of CO gas, temperature and humidity in atosphere usmg information and communication technologies.
