About Telangana:Telangana is a region of the Andhra Pradesh state in India. It has area of 1,14,840 km2.

and its population is 3,06,96,520 according to the 2001 census. The name means "land of Telugu people". It consists of the Telugu speaking parts of the state of Hyderabad. The region lies on the Deccan plateau to the west of theEastern Ghats range, and includes the north western interior districts of Andhra Pradesh state. Telangana region has 10 districts. They are Warangal, Adilabad, Khamman, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak, and the state capital of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad. The Krishna and Godvari rivers flow through the region from west to east. Grievances of Telangana proponents:Telangana is the largest single region of the three regions of Andhra pradesh state covering 41.47% of its total area, is inhabited by 40.54% of the states population, contributes about 76% to the states revenues(if you exclude center contribution). From Central govt: 19.86%, From Telangana: 61.47%(including 37.17% from capital), From Andhra: 14.71, From Rayalaseema: 3.90%.Among others, alleged injustices in water, budget allocations, jobs are the grievances cited by Telangana proponents. Irrigation: Within the state of Andhra pradesh, 68.5% of catchment area of river Krishna and 69% of catchment area of river Godavari are in the Telangana region. The benefit of irrigation through the canal system under major irrigation projects is accruing substantially, i.e. 74.25%, to the Coastal Andhra region. While the share of Telangana is 18.20%, the remaining 7.55% goes to the Rayalaseema region. State's expenditure on Telanganas major irrigation projects is just 18.20% of total expenditure. Education : The share of Telangana as a percent of the total expenditure of the state on salaries of staff in educational institutions in 2001 is as follows: i. Primary schools (government): 31.44% ii. Primary schools (aided): 9.86% iii. Degree colleges (government): 37.85% iv. Degree colleges (aided): 21.79% Above numbers includes the expenditure in Capital Hyderabad. Budget Allocations: Expenditure incurred on this region has never been more than 25% to 30% of total expenditure of Andhra Pradesh. Most years, funds allocated to Telangana were never fully spent. Jobs: Only 20% of total Government employees, less than 10% employees in secretariate, less than 5% of head of the departments in Andhra Pradesh are from Telangana. In 1985, Government published G.O 610 to remove/transfer all the non-locals in government jobs in Telangana region, against the six point formula. By this time in 1985, 58,000 non-locals have occupied jobs in Telangana region. The Girglaini Commission set up in 2001, came up with a report that around 2 lakh govt. jobs in Telangana region are enjoyed by migrants from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

Political power: Andhra Pradesh was ruled by Telangana Chief ministers for only 6-1/2 years out of over five decades of its existance. No Telangana chief minister was in power continuously for more than 2-1/2 years. Proponents of a separate Telangana state feel all the agreements, accords, formulas, plans and assurances on the floor of legislature and Lok Sabha, in last 50+ years, could not be honoured and Telangana was forced to remain neglected, exploited and backward. They allege that the experiment to remain as one state proved to be a futile exercise and therefore, separation is found to be the best solution

The Actual Issue and Key Points:On December 9, 2009, the Government of India announced that the process for the formation of Telangana state will be initiated upon introduction and passage of a separation statement by the state assembly of AP. However, on December 23, 2009, the Government of India announced that the issue of a new state will be addressed only after a consensus is reached, thus effectively putting the formation of the new state in abeyance. There are two types of revolutions; one the real while the other being self claimed. Although both are called as revolutions, the two hardly belong to the same elevation. The Berlin wall collapsed without any political instigation. Russian revolution sprouted from the anguish of a common man not a political force. These were the public outcries against injustice and suppression. Indian freedom struggle too belongs to the same genre. But there are few moments, which are claimed to be revolutions by the initiators to gain political mileage. Telangana issue is one such. K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has attempted every possible gimmick to carve an image "Ultimate warrior of Telangana. There might have been a need of separate state hence people of the region received him fairly well in the 2005 elections. But when separate state was his agenda, he should have rejected the cabinet positions that were offered to his party men. The post election drama of 2005 stamped down the hope for the separate state. The election, re-election and finally the grand elections of 2009 painted TRS as just another political party. Rather than being two separate entities, telangana and Andhra are two interdependent regions. If Andhra accounts for major food production, Telangana region is rich in minerals. Both the regions have Telugu as their main language. This is why Telangana is no Jharkhand or Uttarakhand.

Is the division justified?

NO:Further if Telangana is declared, the disputes over border would be endless. The issue about Hyderabad, Bhadrachalam etc will create a hostile environment in the state. The moment when the "T" bill is introduced in

the Parliament or when/if an SRC is constituted, the government will be forced to consider the plights of Gurkha land in west bengal, south Tamil Nadu in the south along with the proposal of Konkan state. The list is endless. Breaking the country into such smaller units increases regionalism in indian poltics. Further it is a multi-crore task for the government and funds for the formation of so many states cannot be accommodating in the forthcoming budget. Although the claim for separate state is ridiculous, governments must understand the need to maintain uniform and sustained growth through out the state. Instead of using our time for constructive purpose we are wasting time like this. All the students should understand that they should not participate in these agitations if they want a bright future. All the politicians are old and enjoyed their life well . so no to telangana. Telangana is already developed. Separation should be opposed. We should live together. YES:All parties are committed to Telangana means all parties are in favour of development of telangana, definitely not for bifurcation. Smaller states are easy to handle and control. It is difficult on the part of centre as well as state to handle security of larger states as it is said that small family is a happy family, similarly small state should be a happy state. Telangana has been a demand for many years, if it is formed then this will prove democracy in india. Dividing big state will benefit citizens for better availing of government programmes without any regional negligence. Inspite of assurances provided by the successive governments at the center about upliftment of telangana people and to safe guard their job rights in their region, for the past 50 years nothing was implemented. The telangana people are drastically marginalized in the utilization of water resources and infrastructure. Their demand is legible.
