t our July board of directors meeting, Katheryn Tuberty with Farmers Insurance was officially sworn in as our new Chairperson of the Board. Additionally, Scott Pardini with Recology, Barry Nelson with Travis Credit Union, and Mike Fortney with Placer Title Company took the oath to begin serving their three-year terms. Unfortunately Christopher Donhost with Bryan-Braker Funeral Home resigned his director position as he was taking another job out of the area. Stay tuned for who the Vacaville Chamber will announce to take his spot on our board of directors. I wanted to take a moment to thank the four (4) out-going directors who recently left our board. Carol Landry with First Northern Bank, Ed Forrest Associate Member, and Ernie Smith with Smith Business Interiors all served two (2) threeyear terms on our board. All three (3) were executive committee members with both Carol and Ed serving a year as our Chair of the Board. Laura Petty with Petty and Warshawsky Attorneys at Law served for about two years on our board. Laura chose not to serve another three-year term because of her many other commitments in our -community. Laura was selected to serve on our board primarily because of her
involvement as a member of our Chamber and had recently graduated from our leadership program.Thank you again to Carol, Ed, Ernie, and Laura. At our June 4th board retreat, current and new directors go together and were briefed on By Mark Creffield various trends in the President/CEO Chamber industry. Your board of directors got down to business and began a strategic planning process to develop goals for the upcoming year. Once again based on the discussion criteria of Our Chamber Needs to or Should do What? With over 20 suggestions made, each director casted their vote and this list were narrowed down to the top three ideas. Last month our chair of the board mentioned these three priorities that came out of our annual board planning retreat. 1. Re-start countywide legislative advocacy group. The current legislative advocacy group has been dormant for many
months. The Vacaville Chamber wants to reconvene all Solano County Chambers and move this process forward. 2. Ombudsman or contact person at the Chamber to help with individuals who look to start a business in Vacaville. The Chamber will work with Solano County, the City of Vacaville, and the Small Business Development Center to create a more centralized process for business start-ups and development. 3. Better and more consistent at delivering our successes to Chamber members and the Community. Improving our scores from the recent membership survey. Looking to bridge the scoring gap in how our members rated: How importance is it for the Vacaville Chamber? in a specific area compared to How well do you think the Chamber performs? in the same specific area. Over the course of the next fiscal year you will begin to see the implementation and learn more about our three (3) retreat goals. The Vacaville Chamber is very excited for fiscal year 2013/14. Stay up to date on everything that is going on by visiting our website www.vacavillechamber.com.
