Pictorial Newsletter
Greeting from South Africa. For over ten years now we have sent newsletters informing about the work that we are involved in here in South Africa. Writing is not my strong suit, and several newsletters, I feel, have tended to be "too wordy." So we thought that we would try something different this time and send instead a "mini picture album" of the last 6 months here. They will be under different headings as you will see and each picture will be described. We hope that you like
this and that it will help you "see" a little more of what the work is like here in South Africa.
Enjoy!! May God bless.

Cape Bible Seminary

As you already know, Cape Bible Seminary Is the teaching resource that we use for the training of leaders. Since the last report, I have held classes in Graaff-Reinet and George with other mis
sionaries holding classes in other areas. We take the classes to where the leaders are and this

means that they do not have to attend resident school classes. Here are a few pictures from previ
ous seminars.

We had the first Cape Bible Seminarysession here in February

and here are the students who attended. Gordon Nelson and

Ron Butler took part in the teaching.

We hold a couple of sessions a year in the small town of GraaffReinet and these students came to our session in November.

The Church in George

We live in the town of George and when we are in town, we work with the local church in the township of Convllle. I preach nnany Sunday mornings, Fran leads the Sunday School, and teaches

the ladies class on Sunday afternoons. We also have youth classes on Monday nights, Bible Study on Tuesday nights, prayer meetings on Wednesday and Theological Education by Extension (TEE)
classes on Thursday. We have just started these TEE classes with real good success. Here are a
few pictures from the church here:

We work with a fine group of people in the church here in George. They love the Lord very much.

We have services in a smali buiiding and all classes meet there except for the Sunday school classes which meet in another room
or at our house.

Iget to preach many times in George and in other places to which

we travel.

One of the enjoyable things about Fran's Dad's (Al Hamilton) visit was his being able to speak three times to the prayer meetings and Bible studies here in George.

Baptisms
We have had several

baptisms since the last re

port and here are a few pic tures of those great events.
Right - During a recent trip to the northern Cape we were able to wit
ness the baptisms in the Vaal River

that flows through the northern part of the country.

These brothers and sisters were recently baptized here in George and are working in the various areas of the church here. We are real
thankful for these additions to the Lord's church.

Forwarding Agents visit

for Christmas
Mark and Annette Tuttle and their two sons, Jonathan and Jordan visited us here

for the Christmas holidays. They were able to be here for ten days and we thoroughly enjoyed their visit. From the many pictures that we took here are just a few of their visit. We had a great but sadly a short time to
gether.
Mark and Annette Tuttle with their two sons, Jonathan and Jordan

Mark Tuttle got to speak twice to the church here and the local

people enjoyed hearing from him during this Sunday morning

sermon.

Annette with her beautiful voice sang a special for the Wednes day evening prayer meeting. Annette, we thank God for your
voice!!

General pictures
To round this mini album out, we have included a few general pictures that we would like to share with you. Thanks so much for praying for the work here and we hope that you can visualize a
little more of it now.

Before you move, please send themalting label with a copy ofyour new address to Non Profit Orq.

Conference 1999
This year's annual Preaching Conference was held here in George from the 29th of September until October 3. 330 people from all over South Africa came forthe services that started on Wednesday night and
ended on Sunday morning. This year's theme was "Prayer -- The Lifeline to God" and all classes, sermons and teaching times dealt with the various parts of that theme. One thing that we had tried to do was to have classes for all ages and see that no one was ever left out of something to do while at conference. It never made much sense to us to have children come and then sit around and do nothing, so we have tried to develop classes for even the youngest of kids. This year, along with the Saturday activity for the youth, we even had an activitytime for the younger children. It went very well and we will try to do this again next year.

The Saturday activity for the older youth was a great success this year because of more intense planning
and all enjoyed the gathering.

Including ourselves, we had 12 missionaries in attendance for the gathering and most helped with the teaching, whether it be men, ladies or youth. Ail of the missionaries in attendance (except for one) stayed
here at our house and with their families so we had 15 people staying here for various parts of the week of

conference and the next. It was a great time of fellowship as we got to spend time with each other during meals and evenings. We do not see each other during the year very often and times like this give us the opportunity to see and visit with each other. We are thankful for the house that the Lord has provided so that
we can be of service in this way when people need a place to stay.

I am really thankful for the people here at George and the way that they worked together to make conference a complete success. I was told many years ago that conference is one of the main things that the

Christians from all over the country came to the yearly confer ence here in George.

The local sisters spent long hours in the kitchen preparing

the meals for those in attendance.

African Christians plan for during the year and when the local church does such a good job of
preparing, it makes the job a lot easier. We had people from places such as Cape Town,

Upington, Kimberley, and the Eastern Cape in

attendance and many made sacrifices to travel the long distances to be part of the gathering. Thank you for praying and helping in so many ways for this year's gathering. We thank the Lord for its success, and we are already starting to plan next year's gathering in Port Elizabeth which will take place the last week of September.

Fran, as usual, taught the kids in one of their classes.

Trip to India
In August I had a rare and truly unforgettable experience. Many of you know that my sister and brother-in-law {Mark and Lisa Andrews) adopted a son in 1994 from the Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra orphanage (BSSK) in Pune, India. Michael is now 13 and doing very well. Lisa contacted me early this year and said that they were now ^

ready to make another adoption and were going through the same agency (Hold International Children Services) and would, therefore,
be dealing with the same orphanage (BSSK) in Pune, India. They

had a complication, though, in that their son did not want to make the
trip back to India. Therefore, Mark needed to stay behind and take care of Michael and they asked me if I would be willing to accompany

three of us.

After leaving George (and Fran and Denzil) and flying to the U.S. in late June, we figured that we would make the Indian trip in July; but the paperwork got bogged down and we left for India on August 13, arriving in Bombay on the 14th. After spending 2 nights there, we went to the city of Pune, which was a four-hour
train trip over the mountains. On the 17th of

under control and not get any worse.
