Pictorial Newsletter
Greeting from South Africa. For over ten years now we have sent newsletters informing about the work that we are involved in here in South Africa. Writing is not my strong suit, and several newsletters, I feel, have tended to be "too wordy." So we thought that we would try something different this time and send instead a "mini picture album" of the last 6 months here. They will be under different headings as you will see and each picture will be described. We hope that you like
this and that it will help you "see" a little more of what the work is like here in South Africa.
Enjoy!! May God bless.

We work with a fine group of people in the church here in George. They love the Lord very much.
We have services in a smali buiiding and all classes meet there except for the Sunday school classes which meet in another room
or at our house.
One of the enjoyable things about Fran's Dad's (Al Hamilton) visit was his being able to speak three times to the prayer meetings and Bible studies here in George.

Conference 1999
This year's annual Preaching Conference was held here in George from the 29th of September until October 3. 330 people from all over South Africa came forthe services that started on Wednesday night and
ended on Sunday morning. This year's theme was "Prayer -- The Lifeline to God" and all classes, sermons and teaching times dealt with the various parts of that theme. One thing that we had tried to do was to have classes for all ages and see that no one was ever left out of something to do while at conference. It never made much sense to us to have children come and then sit around and do nothing, so we have tried to develop classes for even the youngest of kids. This year, along with the Saturday activity for the youth, we even had an activitytime for the younger children. It went very well and we will try to do this again next year.
The Saturday activity for the older youth was a great success this year because of more intense planning
and all enjoyed the gathering.
Including ourselves, we had 12 missionaries in attendance for the gathering and most helped with the teaching, whether it be men, ladies or youth. Ail of the missionaries in attendance (except for one) stayed
here at our house and with their families so we had 15 people staying here for various parts of the week of
conference and the next. It was a great time of fellowship as we got to spend time with each other during meals and evenings. We do not see each other during the year very often and times like this give us the opportunity to see and visit with each other. We are thankful for the house that the Lord has provided so that
we can be of service in this way when people need a place to stay.
I am really thankful for the people here at George and the way that they worked together to make conference a complete success. I was told many years ago that conference is one of the main things that the
Christians from all over the country came to the yearly confer ence here in George.
African Christians plan for during the year and when the local church does such a good job of
preparing, it makes the job a lot easier. We had people from places such as Cape Town,
Trip to India
In August I had a rare and truly unforgettable experience. Many of you know that my sister and brother-in-law {Mark and Lisa Andrews) adopted a son in 1994 from the Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra orphanage (BSSK) in Pune, India. Michael is now 13 and doing very well. Lisa contacted me early this year and said that they were now ^

be dealing with the same orphanage (BSSK) in Pune, India. They

had a complication, though, in that their son did not want to make the
trip back to India. Therefore, Mark needed to stay behind and take care of Michael and they asked me if I would be willing to accompany

three of us.

After leaving George (and Fran and Denzil) and flying to the U.S. in late June, we figured that we would make the Indian trip in July; but the paperwork got bogged down and we left for India on August 13, arriving in Bombay on the 14th. After spending 2 nights there, we went to the city of Pune, which was a four-hour
train trip over the mountains. On the 17th of

Prayers
Please pray for a new place to meet for the church in George. The garage that we meet in is becoming too small and several options are being explored. Please be in prayer for this situation.
Please pray for Fran and Denzil as they travel in the U.S. and fortheir trip home on December 14 and 15.

-- Please also pray for the internal strife In the church in Thembalethu here in George.

Please pray for upcoming Cape Bible Seminary sessions and teaching opportunities.
-- Please pray for the crime situation here as it is getting worse every day.
-- Please pray for Fran and her latest medical condition. After running some tests recently the doctor
noticed abnormal brain waves in an EEG. He said that this is resulting in headaches, short term memory loss and what he termed "absence seizures." These are momentary fade outs that are not even notice
able to the person involved as they usually last a fraction of a second, but do show up on neurological tests. She is on daily medication that is helping in all areas. Please pray that the condition will remain
under control and not get any worse.
~ We praise the Lord for a great yearly conference and for the safe travel of all who participated.
We praise the Lord for Sara Ashwini, Mark and Lisa's new daughter.
We praise the Lord for Denzil's recovery during the week of conference after his tonsillectomy.
We are thankful for continued support of the work here and for the Lord's safe keeping. We are thankful for the extra monetary help that many of you gave towards the yearly conference. It was
a great help. Thank you.
