Lesson

Plan: The Rain Forest Grade Level: 1st Grade Instructor: Allie Ciraldo Lesson Duration: 30 minutes Learning Objectives: The goal of this lesson is teach the students about the rain forest. They will learn about each layer of the rain forest and the kinds of animals that live there. Lesson Summary: First, I am teaching this lesson to first graders. I am going to start with using the Smart Board, showing the power point I made of different animals that live in the Rain Forest and explain where the Rain Forest is in the slide show. After this, I will say we are going to take a trip to the Rain Forest and walk around the classroom pointing to the pictures of animals I put around the classroom. This will also help them learn about the temperature because I will talk about while on our trip. After our trip, my students will go back to their desks and draw a picture of an animal they saw and write down what layer they belong to. Materials: Smart Board with power point Pictures of animals to put around the classroom Paper Crayons, Markers, etc Instructional Procedures: Gather my students to the carpet that is front of the Smart Board Show the power point of different animals and what layer they live on in the Rain Forest Tell the students we are going on a trip to the Rain Forest and tell them the carpet is an airplane and that we are flying there Make airplane sounds and act like we are flying Once the airplane lands, have my students stand up and have them line up behind and follow me Start walking around the classroom as if we are in the Rain Forest acting as it is as hot as the Rain Forest

Point out the different animals around the classroom and asked students what layer they are on After walking around, head back to carpet/airplane and have students sit down and fly home Once we get back home, have students go to their desks to draw a picture of an animal they saw and write what layer they live on Evaluation: I will have my students draw pictures of animals they saw and write which layer that animal lives on which will show that my students learned what the learning objectives said.
