Forum on Contemporary Theory, Baroda XVI International Conference on Translation, Comparatism and the Global South In collaboration with Department of Studies in English, University of Mysore

Cultures meet, interact and contend with one another through processes of translation; and comparison is a convenient means to study disparate cultures in relationship to one another. Thus translation and comparatism are intimately linked. The aim of the conference is to reect on the uses and abuses of translation and comparative methods in the background of history, cultures and politics of the Global South. It invites approaches to translation from the point of view of theory, trope and practice in the contexts of past, present and future. Keynote Speakers: (a) Simon Gikandi is Robert Schirmer Professor of English at Princeton University. (b) Arjun Appadurai is the Goddard Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University. Abstract Submission and Registration: 500-word abstract or proposal is due by August 30, 2013 as an email attachment to S. Shankar, the Convener of the Conference (subraman@hawaii.edu). Essential Qualications: Good academic record with at least a High Second Class Masters Degree
in Economics/Sociology/Demography/Statistics. Persons with an M.Phil/Ph.D., with research experience in the areas of population, migration, and health particularly reproductive health including NRHM or HMIS will be given preference. Preference will also be given to persons with experience in organizing eld surveys and writing reports. The candidate should have good computer skills, knowledge of statistical packages, and good writing skills. The Institute may also consider suitable candidates who have not applied. It can also decide not to ll up the positions if no suitable persons are found. Other things being equal, SC/ST/OBC candidates will be preferred. Applications, with full details, the names of three references, copies of three best publications, accompanied by attested copies of degrees, other certicates, mark-sheets etc. should reach the Academic Programmes Ofcer within three weeks from the date of publication of this advertisement.
