Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost Consecration Sunday

Lectionary 28 Holy Communion (ELW 3) October 12th and 13th, 2013

INTRODUCTION It's a miracle! Multiple miracles! The waters of holy baptism have healed us. The body and blood of Jesus in holy communion have made us clean. We have died with Christ and been raised with him. For all this we have returned to offer thanks. From this place we are sent on our way rejoicing to share the good news. Today we also invite and urge all members and friends of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church to express their thanks to God by completing an estimate of giving card and consecrating it by offering it an act of worship. CHILDREN are always welcome to our Worship Service. Rainbow bags and childrens bulletins are available. A staffed nursery is also available if needed. An usher will gladly provide you with assistance. As a worship courtesy, we ask that you please turn off or set to vibrate all cellular telephones and pagers during the worship service. We ask that all present today please fill out the Attendance and Communion registration card found in your bulletin and place it in the offering plate so that we may record your presence with us.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Be joyful in God, | all you lands; be joyful, | all the earth. 2 Sing the glory | of God's name; sing the glory | of God's praise. 3 Say to God, "How awesome | are your deeds! Because of your great strength your enemies | cringe before you. 4 All the earth bows | down before you, sings to you, sings | out your name." R

Come now and see the | works of God, how awesome are God's deeds | toward all people. 6 God turned the sea into dry land, so that they went through the wa- | ter on foot, and there we re- | joiced in God. 7 Ruling forever in might, God keeps watch o- | ver the nations; let no rebels ex- | alt themselves. 8 Bless our | God, you peoples; let the sound of | praise be heard. 2 Timothy 2:815

GOSPEL: Luke 17:11-19 The holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord.
11

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David that is my gospel, 9for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself. 14 Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening. 15Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Please stand and sing. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. 12As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, 13they called out, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" 14When he saw them, he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were made clean. 15Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. 16He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. 17Then Jesus asked, "Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? 18Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" 19Then he said to him, "Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well." The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Please be seated SERMON Pastor Charles Peterson Silence for reflection and then we invite you to stand and sing: HYMN OF THE DAY: APOSTLES CREED We confess the faith of the one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church with the Apostles Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Take My Life, That I May Be (ELW 685)

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. CONSECRATION OF ESTIMATES OF GIVING FOR 2014 The congregation is seated and the ushers distribute estimate of giving cards. Brothers and sisters in Christ: Today we seek Gods blessing as we gather with thankfulness to dedicate our estimates of giving to the glory of God through the ministry of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The prophet Malachi challenged the people: Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour down for you an overflowing blessing. (Malachi 3:10) St. Paul wrote to the Corinthians: You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully." (II Corinthians 9:7) In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus said to a scribe: To love (God) with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love ones neighbor as oneselfthis is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. (Mark 12:33) The ushers will collect the estimate of giving cards when they are completed. As the ushers bring them forward, the congregation stands to dedicate them. All your works praise you, O Lord, And your faithful servants bless you. Blessed are you, O Lord our God, creator and sustainer of the universe. You made the whole earth for your glory; all creation praises you. We lift our voices to join the songs of heaven and earth, of things seen and unseen. You stretched out the heavens like a curtain; you divided the day from the night; you appointed times and seasons for work and for rest, for tearing down and for building up, for planting and for harvesting.

You called a holy people, blessed them, protected them, and guided them in life and death: Abraham and Sarah; Moses and Miriam; Isaiah and all the prophets; Mary, mother of our Lord, Peter, James, John, and all the apostles; and all the saints and witnesses in your Church of ages past, in whom your Spirit spoke and moved. Above all, and in everything, you gave us your son, Jesus, who proclaimed your love for all people in his words, his deeds, his life, and his death. Bless now, we pray, our tithes and all our offerings of time, money, and skill. Through them may your name be praised and glorified. Grant us faith to know your purpose in all things, give us joy in discipleship, and increase the reign of your eternal glory here and now. All this we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen! Please be seated. ANNOUNCEMENTS PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God's creation. Please kneel or sit as you are able. Each petition ends with: Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. Into your hands, O Holy One, we entrust all for whom we pray, confident in your abundant and abiding mercy; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. CONFESSION AND PROCLAMATION OF FORGIVENESS Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence is kept for reflection.

God of overflowing grace, we come to you with repentant hearts. Forgive us for shallow thankfulness. Forgive us for ignoring the ones in need. Forgive us for setting our hopes on fleeting treasures. Bring us home from the wilderness of sin, move us to turn to you, and strengthen us to serve you in all that we do and say; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. There is joy in heaven over every sinner who repents. By the grace of God in Christ Jesus, who gave himself up for us all, your sins are forgiven and you are made free. Rejoice with the angels and with one another! We are home in God's mercy, now and forever. In the name of the Father, and of the +Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. PEACE Please rise as we greet each other in the peace of the risen Christ. The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. OFFERTORY SENTENCES Let us with gladness offer our lives and the fruit of our labor to the Lord. OFFERTORY: Susie - Polka OFFERING PRAYER Merciful God, as grains of wheat scattered upon the hills were gathered together to become one bread, so let your church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into your kingdom, for yours is the glory through Jesus Christ, now and forever.
