Dear Friends, We are among those who love The United Methodist Church and can no longer invest in approaches that have failed to halt the steady advance of intolerance against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) people. The usual approaches of legislation-writing, story-telling, and relationship-building are important, but have failed to end the discrimination that is destroying our church. While we are grateful for the strategies which have gotten us this far, we also recognize they are not sufficient to get us the rest of the way. If you are at the same point, we invite you to help launch Revolution 3-D, a three-dimensional strategy to abolish the United Methodist policies of discrimination against LGBTQ people. Revolution 3-D encourages you to more visibly Disclose(t) your support of inclusion; strategically Divest from structures which directly or indirectly support the discriminatory policies of our church; and, Disrupt the status quo wherever possible, locally and globally. Revolution 3-D is a campaign of Love Prevails, the direct action arm of Kairos CoMotion which was birthed after my 2011 church trial (LoveOnTrial.org). General Conference 2012, saw the coming out party of Love Prevails! With other progressive organizations, Love Prevails broke the bar of General Conference for a protest against the ongoing oppression of LGBTQ people. However, when a benediction was offered and we were instructed to go in peace, Love Prevails insisted on staying in peace. With the support of others who remained, conference proceedings were halted for hours and negotiations led to putting all legislation regarding human sexuality at the end of the agenda where time restrictions would ensure they would not come to the floor for a vote. This action, spearheaded by Love Prevails, prevented harsher and more restrictive language from entering the Book of Discipline. Our present actions and future plans need your support. We invite you to join our campaign by Disclosing your support for expansive love and Disrupting business as usual in the arenas available to you. Fiscally, Love Prevails is committed to faithful stewardship of our resources, while at the same time continuing to dream beyond apparent financial constraints. As we support a seminary intern, connect activists through social media, and plan organized disruptions at national church meetings, there are corresponding monetary needs.
