This is the basic homemade soap recipe that I started with back in 1998. It has stood me well for quite some time. It lathers well and produces a good, hard long lasting bar of soap. Olive Oil Soap A true castile soap contains only olive oil. I have found that though a castile soap is extremely mild, it does have a slightly slimy lather. This homemade olive oil soap recipe has the addition of a small amount of coconut oil for cleansing and bubbles as well as some palm oil to provide a more stable lather.

SHEA AND COCONUT SOAP Sensitive skin rejoice...this homemade soap recipe produces a luxuriously rich, creamy and conditioning bar. 1. Make the shea butter coconut milk homemade soap recipe following the instructions for your preferred soap making method on "The Process" page. 2. Do not mix the coconut milk in with the water and lye solution...hold it back until the soap batter reaches a thin trace. 3. Once the soap reaches a thin trace, you can add the slightly warmed coconut milk. 4. Continue to stick blend the soap batter until a medium trace is reached and pour 3/4 of the soap batter into your soap mold. 5. To the remaining soap, add the finely ground calendula flower petals and mix well. Pour over the soap base in the mold in a zig zag pattern. While pouring hold the soap bucket up high and down low...this helps send the coloured soap to different depths in the white soap base. 6. Using a spatula or other utensil, swirl the soap into a marble pattern. 7. Finish up as per the instructions for the method you are using.

Lavender Soap Recipe

Use this Lavender Soap Recipe to create a bar that is always a welcome addition to any bathroom. Lavender's calming scent is a great way to finish the day, especially when enjoyed in a warm, bubbly, soothing tub. This soap recipe is a two step process (if you use the design idea pictured) so be sure to read it through first. For a more 'well-rounded' lavender scent, try using a blend of lavender essential oils rather than just one variety. Olive Oil Soap Recipe with Calendula and Chamomile

This olive oil soap recipe is a great choice for someone with very sensitive skin. This recipe includes calendula, chamomile and oatmeal for their healing and soothing properties. Traditionally castile soap contains only olive oil for its base but since I like more lather, I have incorporated a small amount of coconut and palm oil. This helps to cut the 'slimy' feeling that an olive oil only soap tends to have. Ultramarine Blue Chromium Green Oxide

1/4 tsp. (1.25 ml) 1/8 tsp. (0.625 ml)

1. You can make the base for this homemade soap recipe following the instructions for your preferred soap making method on "The Process" page. 2. When the soap has reached a thin trace add the scent blend and the white mica. 3. Pour off some of the base into 2 containers. The amounts do not need to be even but should be around 1/4 of the full batch for each container. 4. Add the ultramarine blue to the largest portion of soap...what's left in the pot....and stick blend very well. Oxides like to clump and it's a pain in the butt! I like to mix my oxides with a bit of white mica....using the back of a spoon to break up the clumps. For some reason the mica helps it mix much better with the soap base. 5. Pour the blue base into your soap mold. 6. Add the chromium green oxide to one of the containers you poured off previously and stick blend well. Pour the green soap over the blue in a grid like pattern. Try holding the container at different heights to the mold while pouring. This places your green soap at different layers within the blue soap. 7. Now pour the remaining white soap base over the blue and green...use the same varying heights pouring method. 8. To swirl, run your spatula or thermometer stick through the soap going from side to side (in an 'S" pattern) following the direction you will be cutting the soap. This will give the flowing seaweed like look. 9. Finish up as per the soap making instructions for the method you are using.

Camellia Oil Coconut Milk Soap

You may have noticed that I really like Camellia Oil and Coconut Milk in my soap recipes! Especially those homemade soap recipes that are on the plainer side. I use Camellia oil because it has so many great properties that appeal to me and my skin type. If you have a preference for a particular oil...say avocado, hemp seed, apricot kernel, sweet almond, etc....you can substitute it for the Camellia oil. Just be sure to run the recipe through a lye calculator to obtain the new lye amounts. As for the coconut milk...you don't have to use it at all if you don't want to....just increase the water amount by the amount of the omitted milk. Another option is to swap milks. If you really like goat's milk, use it instead. That's the great thing about making homemade soap...you can make it whatever you want. Shea Butter Soap Recipe

Here's a soap recipe incorporating shea butter for it's creamy lathering abilities and essential oils of lime, sweet orange, oakmoss, patchouli and clove to create a slightly masculine/unisex scented bar. The deep turquoise and moss green checkerboard pattern is created using sticks of moss green soap coloured with chromium green oxide that have been stacked like 'Lincoln Logs' and placed into the soap mold. The soap base coloured with ultramarine blue and hydrated chromium green oxide has then been poured overtop the 'logs' until the soap mold is filled. When cut, this creates an interesting checkerboard like pattern. Add Grapefruit Seed Extract to the base oils and all other additives at a thin trace. You will have to work quickly when incorporating the additives since the mix sets up quickly. Note: Oakmoss and Patchouli essential oils caused the soap to be a much darker shade of turquoise than when I use a clear essential oil.

Soap Recipe with Apricot Kernel Oil

This apricot kernel soap recipe is made with carrot and orange infused olive oil. Both apricot kernel oil and carrot root have moisturizing and conditioning properties that are great for dry and mature skin. If you decide to use the same essential oils (Jasimine, Sweet Orange, Oakmoss, Patchouli & Clove) as I did to scent this bar, you won't be disappointed. It smells wonderful...I love it! Turn off the crock pot and leave it overnight to cool and settle. In the morning strain the olive oil through a coffee filter. *(I used 3 cups olive oil, zest of 2 oranges and 2 grated carrots. I dehydrate the carrot and orange first because I don't want any excess moisture in the oil.) Step Two To make this homemade soap, follow the instructions on The Process page. Spoon Swirl Homemade Soap Recipe

Take a look at this fun and easy spoon swirl homemade soap recipe made using the room temperature method and coloured with oxides, cocoa powder and mica. The spoon swirl design is achieved by dividing the soap up and colouring each in contrasting colours. Then, using a spoon, you literally spoon each colour into the soap mold alternating colours until the soap mold is filled.

With this batch I decided to forgo using essential or fragrance oils. If you decide to use them be sure to use ones that are slow movers since you will need lots of time to get the soap into the soap mold. There is no water discount taken in this recipe. Spoon Swirl Homemade Soap Recipe Instructions

For this recipe I used the Room Temperature Method. Bring the soap to a thin trace. Divide the soap up into 4 equal(ish) portions and add the colourants.

Colour A - 1/2 tsp of white mica; Colour B - 1/4 tsp of yellow oxide and 1/4 tsp white mica; Colour C - 1/4 tsp cocoa powder and 1/4 tsp white mica; Colour D - 1/4 tsp black mica and 1/4 tsp white mica. Mix each colour in very well. I got a bit overaggressive with the stick blender and accidently beat in bubbles! I decided I could live with them.

Start with the first colour and drizzle one spoonfull of soap base into the soap mold.

Then the next colour,

And the next,

And the next,

And so on,

Until all the soap is used up.

Half way there!!!

Whew!! Takes a little while but finally the soap mold is full. If the batter seems to thicken up as you are working, just give it a gentle stir to loosen it up and keep on spooning. Once you have filled the mold, wrap the soap up as usual and leave it to insulate. The next day, unwrap and cut as normal. Enjoy!

Column Swirl Homemade Soap Recipe

Producing a column swirl homemade soap recipe has been on my 'to do' list for some time now and I'm happy to say that I thoroughly enjoyed making this one.

This design is easy to create by using a simple tool, a plain square column of wood, and lots of wonderfully bright, fun soap colours. With this batch I used 6 colours. Next time I will only use 4...I think it will have more impact. The recipe below is without fragrance but you are welcome to add whatever scent suits your fancy. Just be sure that the scent is a slow mover since this technique takes some time to achieve. Column Swirl Homemade Soap Recipe Instructions

For this recipe I used the Room Temperature Method. Bring the soap to a thin trace.

Divide the soap up into 6 equal portions.

Add your colourants to each container.

Mix in the colour with a small whisk (or other mixing tool).

Make sure the soap colour is well mixed in with no lumps. This is important! I thought I had all of the lumps out but as you can see...there are a few still in there.

Place the square wooden column into the center of the soap mold.

Start pouring the first colour of soap. The amount of soap you pour will determine how wide the soap rings are. I went with pouring little amounts and wish I had used more soap base with each pouring. The wider rings look more vibrant and didn't muddy up like the narrower rings tended to.

Alternate pouring the colours, being sure to put contrasting colours next to each other.

Once all of the soap batter has been used up, remove the wooden column.

The center may look a little 'muddy' so you might want to scrape the last drops of coloured soap onto the top. Wrap the soap up and leave to insulate for 24 hours (or more...mine took a bit longer than normal this time...36 hours) and cut when it is firm enough to handle.
