Buckingham Palace has been forced to remove dozens of anti-monarchist comments from the Queens Facebook page after its launch was met with a stream of republican abuse.

More than 60,000 people rushed to like the British Monarchy page after it was published yesterday at 8am, and thousands of people contributed to discussion threads under Royal news, photographs and videos posted on the Queens wall.

But moderators were forced to remove dozens of comments by anti-monarchist saboteurs who clicked the like button in order to join discussions on the page only to post abusive messages.

One user branded the Royal Family scrounging layabouts with another called the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh inbred t.

Jason Higginbotham wrote: Take all their possessions as they belong to the country, sell all their assets to help reduce the national debt. Abolish the monarchy and all its powers, real and ceremonial.

Another user called Welsh Andy wrote: Why is my money being spent on this parasite when we suffering massive cuts in our public services?

The page was also deluged with hundreds of positive comments.

One user called Stacy Patricia Lister wrote: Our Majesty does a marvellous job, she did not ask to be Queen she was born into it. She has dedicated her life for this country, and conducts herself with great decorum, dignity and etiquetteGod save the Queen!

The British Monarchy page provides a hi-tech version of the traditional Court Circular detailing the daily engagements of members of the Royal Family, and an interactive map allows users to search for Royal events in their areas. Photographs and videos featuring members of the Royal family will also be regularly uploaded onto the page.

It is not possible to become friends with the Queen or any of her relatives, but users can click a button allowing them to like the page and receive Royal updates in their news feeds. The new page has been described as the final frontier of the Queens foray into digital technology.

The official @BritishMonarchy account on Twitter already has 70,148 followers and the TheRoyalChannel on the video sharing website YouTube has 32,418 subscribers.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed that moderators had been forced to remove a number of abusive postings. There are an awful lot of comments on there and, while were certainly not stifling debate, our colleagues in the web office are moderating the page and removing any offensive comments with sexual content or bad language, he said.
