Design Brief Description of task: The overall objective is to investigate about the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UNMDG) and design, plan and create public awareness in the secondary school and evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign. Context: The eight UNMDGs which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education by the target date of 2015 form a blueprint agreed to by all the worlds countries and all the worlds leading development institutions. They have met with varying degrees of success and the target date (2015) is now close. Its time for a rethink of how these goals are publicised. Research about UNMG What are they? There are 8 goals that are in the UNDG 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 2. Achieve universal primary education

3. Promote gender equality and empower women 4. Reduce child mortality 5. Improve maternal Heath 6. Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases 7. Ensure environmental sustainability 8. Global partnership for development

Background The millennium Development Goals are eight international development goals that were officially recognized by the United Nations in 2000, it was also when the largest-ever gathering of the worlds leader welcoming the new millennium. 189 countries took part of it. The Millennium Project was assigned by the United Nations Secretary-General in 2002 the campaign started in 2002, inspiring and supporting people from around the world to take action, such as action plan for the world to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and to reverse the grinding poverty, hunger and disease affecting billions of people. The commitments by all countries was to reduce poverty and hunger, provide health care by all inequality, help the lack of education and solve the lack of access to clean water. These goals were agreed to be achieved by the year 2015 by all the United Nation member states and international organizations. For goal number 1 which is Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger their goal is to reduce by half the amount of people living on less than a dollar a day and half the amount of people who suffer from hunger. For goal number 2, which is Achieve universal primary education, their goal is to ensure that all boys and girls complete a full course of primary schooling. Goal number 3 which is to promote gender inequality and empower women their goal is to give rights equally between men and women and more women getting education. Goal number 4, which is to reduce child mortality they are trying to reduce by two thirds the mortality rate among children under. Goal number 5 is to improve maternal health, their goal is to reduce the amount by three quarter the maternal mortality ratio and achieve universal access to reproductive health. Goal number 6 is combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other disease, their goal is to stop and begin to revers the spread of HIV/AIDS and other diseases. Goal number 7 is Ensure environmental sustainability, their goal is to combine the principles of sustainable development into country and policies and programs and reverse loss of environmental resources. The last goal which is goal number 8, is global partnership for development, their goal is to develop further an open trading and financial system that is rule-

based, predicable and non-discriminatory, included a commitment to a good governance, development and poverty reduction nationally and internationally.

To help create my understanding about the United Nation Millennium goals, I have created a bookmark.

Public Awareness Campaign

They are trying to do with the objective of raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue. It is something that shows awareness about an issue that we want to show and it can be

shown in many way such as videos, poster etc. This is how we one the awareness to be spread and for be to be aware off. Test Mothers will be the audience to my posters. They will test it by doing a survey. Identify the problem UNMDG, are United Nation Millenniums Development Goals, they are goals that the untied nation with many other countries internationally agrees to improve on as a worldwide issue. I chose to work on improve maternal health which is goal number 5, improving maternal health. This Goal number 5 is to help women from die in childbirth, which some of the causes of maternal deaths are infection, obstructed labor, hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, and complications of unsafe abortion and it could link to Goal number 6 which is combat HIV/AIDS as well. The United nation wants to reduce the maternal mortality ratio by three quarters by 2015. They have been proving experience doctors to talk to the mothers and they have as well taught them how to protect themselves. I chose to focus on this goal because I think it is important to reduce and improve maternal health because we are safe both the mother and the baby at the same it. It is like saving 2 lives in one time. It is also important to let people who live in undeveloped countries know that it is dangerous for a women to give birth without experiences doctors and without knowing much information. They are a lot of women who are uneducated so being pregnant and giving birth is dangerous and we want them to know that it is dangerous.

Design 1 For design 1 I am going to make a poster with a picture of a pregnant mother in the middle of poster. At the sides of the picture I am going to use a lot of quotes that describes about mother, baby, mother health or that had the main idea about maternal health. I am going to use a cartoon picture on a white piece of paper and the quotes would be all in black. The quotes would be everywhere on the poster Design 2 For design 2 I am going to make 3 different posters. For the first poster I am going to have a picture of a pregnant mother and on the poster I would include 1 quote about pregnant mothers with a lot of different types of pregnant mother picture. For the second poster I would include a picture of a hospital and I would add one main quote that talks about maternal health. For the third poster I am going to have a picture of a mother and a baby and I would have on main quote at the bottom of the picture. All of the poster are going to be green because green shows the green environment and it also shows that it is related to health. Design 3 For design number 3 I am going to make a poster with a number 5 in the middle of the poster and the word maternal health below it, at the background I would have lots of picture such as pictures of mother, baby and pregnant lady. Below each picture I would write one main word to describe the picture. The word would be in different colors. For example if it was to be a picture of a mother going to the hospital I would write the word health below, by writing the word health it shows clearly that they one of the goal in goal number 5 is to improve maternal health which is by encouraging the mother to go to the hospital. Final Design For my final design I am going to choose design number 3. Design number 3 has all the design spec in it. I also think that design 3 would clearly show and people might get the main idea more easily than design 1 and 2 because there would be a lot of visual on the poster and just one key word to describe the picture, people would get the main idea more rather than reading out lots of quotes with just 1 picture, it is also not attractive. This poster is suitable for every age range, because there wont be a lot of word and there will be more picture to help the read of the poster get a better understanding of what the poster is about.

I have enough time to do things and also I find it easy to keep track of doing the poster when I have a clear outlined plan. Process

1. I drew out a few layout of how I want the template of my poster to be 2. I chose the best one out all the 3 templates that I drew a sketch of 3. I went on to Google to search for picture that would be relevant to my main idea of the picture 4. I then divided the columns on my poster 5. I drew pictures in each columns 6. I outlined the pictures with black marker to make it stand out more 7. I colored the picture 8. I wrote words below each picture Criterion C: Plan Achievement level 0 1-2 3-4 5-6 Level Descriptor The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors given below. Evaluate

To test my product I made a survey on surveyplanet.com for my classmates to do. In the survey there were questions that were against my design specification, the question are multiple choice, my questions were what age range are you? What gender? Informative- As a result of looking/using this product how much has your knowledge about the issue increase? How inspired and motivated are you after looking at my product? Are you going to do something after looking at my product or did your behavior change? Did you see any of the evidence of my public awareness campaign in this school community? Is my product attractive? Does my product show a clear awareness? Does my product show any link to the society? Is the size of my poster appropriate? Changes and improvements. I got a lot of positive results from my classmates, at the same time they also suggested that I could make my background more attractive. For this whole thing the most challenging part for me was investigation, I had quiet a bit of a hard time putting in a lot of information, but I managed to overcome this challenge by the help of Mr Luke and my classmates, they have helped to by telling me what I could add in more to make my investigation better and some good sites that I could find good information. To me the easiest part was create, I found that after planning a very well organized plan I was easier to work as we follow the plan, I had my work done on almost all of the dates that was stated in the plan, but also I was having a bit problem with the time, I had to extent the time for some parts of the create. I also felt that I used my time wisely, my poster was done on the date I did not have to struggle with the due dates and my work. In order to make my product better , I also agreed with my classmates because majority of them said that I need to have a better background , I could make my background more attractive. I would also make my poster on a bigger piece of paper so that I could add some information about maternal health on it and people would a better understand with a brief information on the poster. This product has in impact on society because more and more people gets to know about maternal health , and by then there would be more people wanting to volunteer to health maternal health or help the united nation to make this goal successful, people in the society would also be aware of this issue that are mostly found in undeveloped countries rather than in developed countries. The society also would know that this is an important issue that united nation has taken as one of its goal, people get more aware and in the society people will know about maternal health.

Criterion E: Evaluate Achievement level 0 1-2 3-4 Level Descriptor The student meets none of the requirements described below. The student evaluates the product/solution and his or her own performance and suggests ways in which these could be improved.

The student tests the product/solution to evaluate it against the design specification. 5-6 The student evaluates the success of the product/solution in an objective manner based on the results of testing, and the views of the intended users. The student provides an evaluation of his or her own performance at each stage of the design cycle and suggests improvements. The student provides an appropriate evaluation of the impact of the product/solution on life, society and/or the environment. My survey questions was similar to design specification and it was also against the design specification.
