a) Find the complex powers S1, S2 for the two impedances and S3 for the motor. (10 pts) b) Determine the total real and reactive power drawn from the supply, the supply current Is and the
overall power factor. (10 pts)

c) A capacitor is connected in parallel with the loads. Find the kvar and the capacitance in F to
raise the overall power factor to unity. Find also the new source current. ( 10 pts)

2-) Consider the single-phase transformer circuit shown below. Transformer ratings and reactances are:
Transformer A : 300 kVA , 250 / 750 V, X = 0.10 p.u. Transformer B : 250 kVA , 800 / 400 V, X = 0.15 p.u. The transmission line can be represented as a series impedance Zline =0.2+j 0.4 . The load power factor is 0.8 lagging . Choose a base of 300 kVA, 250 V in the voltage source ( Vs ) circuit.

(a) Draw the impedance diagram for this circuit, with all impedances in per unit. ( 15 pts) (b)The source voltage is given as VS =2500 V. Find the minimum magnitude of the load (c)
impedance Zm if the transmission line current magnitude should not exceed 200 A (15 pts). Find the source current (Is) in per-unit and in amperes if Zm = 1.0 . (10 pts)

3-) A synchronous generator having a synchronous reactance of Xs = 0.5 pu is connected to an infinite bus.
The terminal voltage of the generator (bus voltage) is Vt = 1.0 0 pu. The magnitude of the generated emf of the generator is adjusted to Ei = 1.2 pu. The shaft power of the generator is adjusted to 0.7 p.u.

(a)

Find the current supplied by the generator to the infinite bus and the power factor at the infinite bus. (15 pts) (b)Determine to what value the emf magnitude Ei should be changed so that the power factor at the bus becomes unity. The shaft power is unchanged. ( 15 pts)
