PeriData Installation and Configuration: Notes for Advanced Users and System Administrators

Version 3.0 (April 2012) Installation

(Changes with this version: only one file, works with Windows 7, directory can be chosen) PeriData requires Windows XP, Windows VISTA or Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit). There are no special system requirements. Installation is now simplified: Installation requires only a single file: PERIDATA...<version number>...SETUP.EXE. The installer is an msi file provided by installshield. Administrator privileges are required for installation. In a network, PeriData for Windows has to be installed on ALL WORK STATIONS where it is intended to be used.

First start
When started for the first time, PeriData requires administrator privileges. If you are a normal user (or using Windows7 in every case) start the program with the right mouse button (context menu). Choose "execute as..". If the installation was an update, administrator rights are not required. Anyway, it is recommended that the administrator performs the first start and opens a data file to test the correct installation .

Help system
PeriData uses the traditional .HLP system because it provides full DirectHelp which is not supported by later systems. When Help is chosen for the first time on a Windows7-system, the WinHlp32.exe is required if not yet installed. It is recommended that the administrator clicks the Help button to check weather WinHlp32 is installed. If not, Windows7 will guide you through the download from www.microsoft.com (Windows6.0KB917607-x64.msu or Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu) .

Demo Mode and Registration

(Changes with this version: multiple registration problem solved, key number input simplified) After the first installation, PeriData runs in a demo mode for 60 days. The demo dialog reminds you of the remaining time. Besides that, there are no restrictions. You can already transmit data from the perimeter and store them in the PeriData database. The link to the office software can be installed, too. Registration requires a valid license. For details contact the PeriData Hotline. For registration, you need administrator rights. If you are a normal user (or using Windows7 in every case) start the program with the right mouse button (context menu). Choose "execute as..". Then enter the administrator data. The dialog "Registration - Demo" turns up. Choose Registration. Call us by phone and give us the LOCK number. You will get the KEY number that fits your lock. The input of 5 digit groups are confirmed with the Enter Key. The OK button requires a mouse click. Registration is valid for all users and all updates.

Normal use
(Changes with this version: PeriData can run under normal user rights.) PeriData can be used as normal user.

Network
(Changes with this version: "Always Read-Only" Mode.) Shared, simultaneous access to the same patient data file is possible. On a "first come, first serve" principle, the user that opens the file first, gets the write permission, all others are read-only. To avoid a "viewer" workstation to block the "perimeter workstation", it is now possible to set the option "always Read-Only" on a "viewer workstation" to keep the possibility of right permission for the "perimeter workstations".

Server mode - EMR system interface

(No changes with this version) See <program directory>\Documents\English\interface_E.pdf.

Directories
(Changes with this version: New data exchange directory, new standard data directory, creatin problem with new files solved) The former data exchange directory (C.\windows\peridata) is blocked or virtualized by windows 7. Therefore, PeriData uses C.\PeriDataExchange for the temporary storage of transmitted data. The old directory is still scanned to support some 20 year old perimeter programs with fixed directory settings. All other perimeter programs should be reconfigurated. The data exchange directory may be also used for the file exchange with EMR systems. Note: .MES files are written into the data directory, see interface_e.pdf. The standard data directory is the directory where new files (NONAME<number>.PHF and ...PHD) are temporarily stored. In windows 7, the formerly used directories were blocked. The directory is changed to .public\documents\PeriData (WIN7).. or ..allusers\documents\PeriData(XP), resp.
