Introduction

What is numerical reasoning? It is not the same as mathematics, despite that th it involves numbers. Numerical reasoning is about using numerical data to make reasoned decisions and problem solve. It relies on the ability to recognise how to go about solving a numerical problem, problem, understanding the relationships between numbers, prior to completing the mathematical ematical calculation required. The sum, product, how much larger and how many times larger are examples of relationships. The data can be presented in text, tables and even graphs. 2. Examination Formats

The following exam formats include a numerical reasoning component. Edutest Allwell, as part of a general abilities test NSW selective test as part of a general abilities test Melbourne High, MacRobertson Girls High, Nossal High and Cory High (Edutest) The numerical reasoning test is generally of 30 minutes duration and the number of problems included depends on the year level and is generally around 30, but can be as high as 50 for higher year levels. The sample questions included are appropriate for a year 6 level examination.
