com by Oct 16, 2013. Candidate Name: Shawn Kao What ward or position you are running in/for: Ward 14 City Councillor

Mobility:
1. Given that 77% of trips (Statistics Canada, Commuting to Work

2013) are currently made by car in Calgary, do you believe it is City Halls job to [Please circle]: To support the choice of Calgarians to use their automobiles while also improving accessibility to other methods of transportation.

2. The recent Tom Tom Index found that in Calgary, congestion adds

27 minutes of additional travel time in a 30 minute commute. What are you going to do to help decrease this lost personal time for Calgarians?
The residents of Ward 14 are really stuck in this congestion. The 162nd Avenue interchange at Macleod is long overdue and needs to be built. Also, the City needs to lobby the province to complete the 22X interchange at Macleod sooner rather than later. The SW ring road will help Ward 14, but the City has to keep the pressure on, especially if the Tsuu T'ina reject the deal.

Affordability:
1. According to the Fraser Institute, property taxes have increased by

31% over the past 3 years.

Do you agree with this gure? Yes/No No

2. If No, what do you believe this increase to be? 31% is right number, but it is the City's share of our property taxes that has increased by that amount, not our overall property taxes. 3. Over the next four years, what is your personal objective in terms of

tax increases? Specify a percentage amount.

I would like to see only increases linked to cost-ofliving/inflation increases. Target would be 8% - 10% in 4 years depending on what the prevailing economic conditions are. 4. What regulations and red tape will you eliminate to reduce the

regulatory burden on Calgarys residents and businesses?

I would like to see companies and individuals who do business with the City of Calgary and are in good standing regarding their business get a "preferred" status that would streamline their applications for permits, licenses, etc. Also, I would like to undergo periodic department reviews to make sure that each City of Calgary department is running at the optimal efficiency. Public and employee input would be critical. 5. The 2013 $52 million surplus was directed for ood reconstruction

efforts. Many Calgarians have different views on how to use this. What do you believe is the best use for the 2014 $52 million surplus?

Give money back to taxpayers

Safety:
1. Do you believe that the $470,000 spent on the blue ring artwork

called travelling light could have been better spent on improving light and security on public transit?
I believe the $470,000 spent could have been better used elsewhere period... including improving light and security on public transit. 2. What specic measures would you introduce to improve personal

safety on public transit after dark?

Improved lighting at transit stations, increased security presence in the form of surveillance and personnel.

3. What measures would you implement to make Calgarians safer? Need to support emergency responders and other worthwhile safety initiatives in Calgary. We have limited funds though so need to make sure that maximum dollars are reaching the front lines. Traffic safety initiatives are very important too as these affect all Calgarians in their day-to-day lives.
