A few words in advance
W
elcome to ALLDOS! The Conex 354 Duo Multipurpose Instrument
amplifier and Controller you have just purchased is a product using the
companys leading-edge measuring technology.
Conex 352 Dosipos is a multipurpose device designed to carry out high-precision
measurements and controls
a value from parameter group 1:
chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone and hydrogen peroxide
and a value from parameter group 2:
pH value
The integrated controller, the high-resolution graphics display, and the multilingual
plain-text user interface make complicated test and control tasks in water chemistry
much easier.
Just a few keypad inputs lead you to your goal. The potentiostat helps you save even
more time, being automatically matched to the various input variables.
The safety standard of the dosing process is raised by the automatic open-circuit
monitoring of the current loops.
Properties of the Conex

354 Duo instrument amplifier include:

All control functions including PID and continuous-action controls
Setpoint control
Automatic temperature compensation
Logbook function: chronological recording of calibration values with
date and time
User coding function as a means of protection against access by
unauthorized persons and for system administration
Error message function for indication of non-functioning sensors

5.2 Power Supply Connection
Control panel enclosure: Plug the plug-strip into the corresponding
terminal-strip at the rear side of the device. Ensure correct orientation.
Connect protective conductor (PE) to terminal 5 (wall-mounted enclosure), to
terminal 8/1 (control panel enclosure) resp.
Connect neutral conductor (N) to terminal 3 (wall-mounted enclosure), to
terminal 8/2 (control panel enclosure) resp.
Connect phase (L1) to terminal 1 (wall-mounted enclosure), to 8/3 (control
panel enclosure) resp.
Switch the device on and off by switching the supply voltage accordingly. The device
itself does not feature a separate power switch.
5.3 Relay Outputs
NOTE
The connection of the relay outputs depends on the
application and the final control elements used. Therefore
the connections described below should only be considered
as guidelines.
With inductive loads (also relays and contactors) interference suppression is
necessary. If this is not possible, protect the relay contacts using a suppressor circuit
as described below.
With AC voltage:
Current up to Capacitor C Resistor R
60 mA 10 nF 260 V 390 W 2 W
70 mA 47 nF 260 V 22 W 2 W
150 mA 100 nF 260 V 47 W 2 W
1.0 A 220 nF 260 V 47 W 2 W
With DC voltage: connect free-wheeling diode in parallel to relay or contactor.
CAUTION
You must provide the relay outputs with a corresponding
backup fuse!

6.5.2 pH- and Temperature Compensation
pH-Compensation with Chlorine Measurement
The dissociation of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) into the hypochlorit-anion
(OCl

) leads to a loss of slope (loss of sensitivity) of the sensor in chlorine

measurement.
- Using a mathematical compensation function this loss of sensitivity can
be eliminated.
Temperature Compensation
Using a compensation function, the influence of temperature on the
measurement can be eliminated mathematically.

Select relay output 1, using the keys UP/DOWN.
Press ENTER to switch to the corresponding menu.
Set the desired dosing rate using UP/DOWN.
For relay output 2 and the output continuous controller proceed analogously to
relay output 1.
Press ENTER to start the controller at the preselected dosing flow.
- The display shows the controller-control display in its dependence on the
preselected dosing flows. see Section 6.6.3 Controller Control Fields

Manual operation with preconfigured limit contacts is mostly analogous to manual
operation with two-position- and continuous controllers
The difference: When the respective relay output is selected, the relay can be
switched on, off resp.
Press ENTER to start the controller.
- The display shows the controllor-control display in its depencence on the
switching state of the relay, on the preselected dosing flow with continuous
control resp. see Section 6.6.3 Controller Control Fields on the

NOTE
Faults during the measurement:
Refer to the Operation Manual of electrode, measuring cell
resp.!
Fault Cause Remedy

No display following startup

- No supply voltage.

Connect supply voltage.

With ph-Measurement:
Display permanently indicates pH
approx.7.

With Measurement of oxidizers:
Display permanently indicates zero.

- Short-circuit in cable between
measuring cell and instrument
amplifier, moisture in connectors.

Check connection cable and
eliminate short-circuit, eliminate
moisture.

Display permanently at full-scale value.

- Open-circuit in cable between
measuring cell and instrument
amplifier.

Check connection cable and make
connection.

Measured-value display unsteady.

- Interferences on cable from
electrode/measuring cell.

- With pH-measurement:
air in sample water flow.

- With pH-measurement:
sample water flow interrupted.

- Cable between electrode/measuring
cell and instrument amplifier
broken.

- Sensor/electrode faulty.

Check that the screen is properly
connected.

Check sample water supply system
(pipes...) and make changes if
necessary.

Fault Cause Remedy

With measurement of oxidizers:
Insufficient sensitivity of measuring cell.

- Measuring cell contaminated or
passivated by deposits.

Disassemble measuring cell and
clean surface of electrode.

With pH-measurement:
Measured-value display reacts extremely
slowly.

- Electrode aged.

- Electrode dirty.

Replace electrode.

Clean electrode.

With pH-measurement:
Error message during calibration.

- Wrong buffer solution used.

- Electrode aged.

- Electrode dirty.

Use correct buffer solution.

Replace electrode.

Clean electrode.
