Greetings from Rhodesia, Its Winter here and does it get cold! We are looking forvrard to Spring which should be just around the corner. I understand that the problem in many parts of the States is just the opposite of mine -- you have all the warm weather you want.

The Midwifery course I am taking is no\'f in its eighth month. I have been a student in many areas, all of which will enable me to be a better nurse in the bush area of Nuanetsi. We recently com pleted a series on drugs and anesthesia that was very interesting.

The "district" part of my training has been great.

next section is post natal department - care of the mother after delivery.

From now on my studies will be heavier than usual and I hope you will understand if my personal correspondence gets behind. "When a person has been away from the books as long as I have, studying
comes harder than usual.

On my next break I plan to go to Matopos. This is a tourist spot near Bulawayo, with the grave of Mr. C. Rhodes (after whom the

country is named) and a small game park.

I will take blankets and

books and park myself under a tree to study,

The time will soon be here for me to come home on furlough. You will have to pardon me if I talk non-stop about Rhodesia and especially
Nuanetsi Christian Mission. --

I do appreciate the personal letters and prayers in my behalf. Please remember Nuanetsi Christian Mission in your prayers, and also the fine people who work there to spread God's Word.

Note from Forwarding Agent:

Since Marilyn indicated her desire to serve her Lord as a missionary

nurse. He has always supplied, through you, the needed financial aid to provide Marilyn a living and the funds to maintain the clinic. t the present time, her funds are desperately low. I am asking you to review her work, and if you pledged a monthly amount, to keep

this up or to make it up if you have this slip. I am asking also that each of you prayerfully consider a special contribution at this time for Marilyn. If you decide to give, please make checks
payable to Nuanetsi Mission Clinic and send to the church address

on this newsletter. God bless each of you.

Greetings to each of you;

October, 1971

At the first of this month I returned to the mission for ten glorious

days.

Two weekday evenings we had bioscopes (filmstrip and movie) at

Basket Dam and Gwamatanga churches, with over 100 children and adults each evening. On the Sunday I was at the mission I traveled 30 miles to Mpesi for Bible School and church. After having lunch with Rhoda, my African nurse, we went to Mia Patricia's village. Her given name is Lucy, but the women take the name of one of their children, usually the last born. Lucy was the first woman convert that the Courtneys had in 1961].. It was grand to visit with Christian friends again. That Lord's Day was very busy, full and rewarding. I arrived home at
11:00 P.M., and soon the moon was shining so brightly in my room that
it awakened me.

Let me thank the many who have been in prayer for my mother's health. I was able to telephone my parents and am happy to report she is much
better.

I am now back in Bulawayo on the "last leg" of my midwifery course.

It will be over in December. Prom that time on I will be very busy at the mission, setting things in order for my furlough.

The following is a reprint from "Nuanetsi News", published by Dan

Burris, my co-worker in the Lord's work.
in this a r t i c l e .

I think you will be interested

"Would you take a brief look with me at the personnel and work of Christ
in the Nuanetsi area of Rhodesia?

"By close team work and the Lord's blessing, our mission family con
sisting of the Courtneys, Marilyn Files and the Burris' now have four
teen Sunday schools and preaching points with total attendance each week

between 600-700.

Tom and Dan have an effective preacher training program

providing African preachers for these churches. During the past two years as a team we have established eight new preaching points and revived two others. The women are ftally extended in their teaching sewing classes and keeping up with family needs plus a full schedule on Sunday.

"The witch doctor with his paganism and superstitions has great power
in the lives of these people. For instance: Peter has had sixteen children of which seven are still living. Of these living, three of the girls have had their eyes slashed by the witch doctor to let out the evil spirit. Several died from the witch doctor*s notion. He now feels he is possessed of an evil spirit. We hope we can reach him with the gospel before i t is too late.

"The clinic at the mission is the only medical facility within $0 miles
and serves as an effective means of reaching into the lives of these
people > .. .. ...

"There is power in prayer and this is probable our greatest need.

With

out God*s power we are helpless in the face of Satan's power in these lives. We are immensely grateful for you people who hold us up in prayer and supply our needs so we can remain in this field that is in
deed \diite unto harvest."

May God give you many, many occasions for thanksgiving and rejoicing is my prayer.
