SIM provides a critical overview of the processes, dynamics and challenges of migration in the context of a globalized world. The course utilizes interactive and case studies in understanding the complex dimensions of migration. Topics include gender analysis of migration; comparative migration policies; migration and human rights; marriage migration; social cost of migration; migration and environmental crises; return and reintegration; among others. The course will focus on the theory and practice of genderresponsive planning and budgeting based on the findings of the review of the Philippine GAD Budget Policy in 2009 and 2010. It will include lectures and extensive practice sessions in gender analysis, design of gender-responsive projects and programs, and the preparation of 3-year GAD agenda and annual GAD budgets. Participants are encouraged to bring sample GAD plan and budget of their agency. The course coordinator and main faculty is Jeanne Frances I. The Women and Gender Institute (WAGI) is Miriam Colleges specialized center for advocacy on womens rights, gender equality, and non-sexist learning. It offers a cross discipline perspective on womens empowerment that is interlinked with democracy, human rights, social justice and value formation.
