Running head: ASSIGNMENT 6

Assignment 6 Case Incident 1: Dressing for Success Bryan Head University of Redlands Professor Heinz December 20, 2012

ASSIGNMENT 6 Assignment 6 Case Incident: Dressing for Success Right to be Offended? Cohen had a right to be offended, but she needs to understand the correction was not a

personal attack. She was corrected and wasnt allowed to attend such the eternal meeting; I think it was appropriate. The older colleague is there to help her understand her that her attire was not right for the company and she should more professional. The colleague could have allowed her to attend the meeting for first time, but the case does not give details on the dynamics. Also it is possible that the company did not provide dress code information before the meeting, and that would be the companys mistake. Cohen as a new employee would be unable to know the dress rule for the meeting. So Cohen should have right to attend the meeting at this time. To fix the problem, the company should have dress code policies that include accessory items as well. And each employee should receive a copy of the policy. Cohens Argument I dont agree with Cohen at all. There is nothing wrong with expressing ones self by their style of dress. The problem arises when your style of dress is in conflict with the culture and policies of the company. If Cohen wanted to express herself, then she should find an employer that lines up with her taste in fashion. Otherwise she should take this as a learning opportunity and make a few adjustments.

Dress Code Of course, the employer has an unfettered right to set a companys dress code. The employer has the power to set a companys dress code, based on the employees is dependency

ASSIGNMENT 6 relationship to company. Although I think that the employer should consider many more factors such as belief, values of employees before setting a dress code. A distinct dress code makes will help the company to maintain brand retention and loyalty. When an employer hires new

employees, they should tell the rule of dress code to the new employees. Doing so will establish that employees are willing to conform the companys dress code. Setting a dress code in the workplace will have various benefits to the employees as well as to the company. Firstly, having a dress code will ensure that everyone understands what is expected of them and allows protection for the business. Secondly, by having a policy that stipulates what is appropriate and inappropriate this will also ensure that the business and its employees can be free to work in an environment that is open and non-offensive. Organizations Code I would and have fully confirmed to an organizations dress code. Out of respect for my employer and pride for myself, I line up with the organizations dress codes. When my boss dresses in a relatively formal manner, I adjust my dress accordingly to line up with their expectations. Since the boss is the leader or head, he or she sets the tone for the organization.
