Geo-scientific research vessel RV Samudra Ratnakar dedicated to the nation
Union Minister for Mines Dinsha Patel dedicated state of art Geo-scientific research vessel RV Samudra
Ratnakar to the nation at Kandla Port of Gujarat. The vessel was built at worlds largest Ship building
yard of Ulsan, South Korea, RV Samudra Ratnakar is specially designed to carry out sea bed-mapping,
mineral exploration in the deep waters along with geo-scientific oceanographic researches.

World Arthritis Day is being celebrated around the globe on 12

October 2013. The day is celebrated to
raise awareness of RMDs amongst the medical community, people with Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal
Diseases (RMDs) and the general public.
Varun Arora won UN Award for 'Open Curriculum' Web Platform
Varun Arora, a young innovator from India selected for United Nations 10 Young Innovators Competition
2013.Varun Arora is among 10 people from around the world selected for a prestigious United Nations
award in recognition of their work as entrepreneurs and use of technology to change the world.
Mansoor Khans book The Third Curve Released
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan released Mansoor Khans book The Third Curve: The End of Growth as We
Know It at the India International Centre in New Delhi. Mansoor's book: The Third Curve describes the
co-relation between the compulsions of economic growth and the limits imposed on man by nature. The
Book also emphasises on the end of the economic growth.
Mohamed Waheed withdraws fromMaldivian presidential race
Maldivian President Mohamed Waheed withdrew from the 2013 presidential election scheduled on 19
th
October 2013, after polling held last month was annulled by the Supreme Court.
Election Commission issues instructions to introduce NOTA option
The Election Commission has ordered the Chief Electoral Officers of all States and Union territories to
provide for None of the Above (NOTA) option in electronic voting machines (EVMs) and ballot papers.
The option will be provided at the bottom of the panel on the EVMs or as the last row in the ballot paper
after all the candidates have been listed with their respective symbols in the same language used to list
the candidates. The NOTA option was made mandatory by the Supreme Court last month so that people
who did not want to vote for any of the candidates in their respective constituencies had the option of
rejecting all of them without giving up their right to a secret vote.
