(CHUN) is a non-profit registered neighborhood organization dedicated to Preserving the Past, Improving the Present, and Planning for the Future of Greater Capitol Hill. CHUN strives to accomplish this mission through its emphasis on historic preservation, affordable housing and homelessness, land use, transportation and zoning, and public safety. At the foundation of all CHUN does is the notion of civic participation - that we become a healthier, more vibrant community through the active involvement of the people who comprise our neighborhoods. CHUN produces the annual CHUN Capitol Hill People's Fair the first full weekend of every June. The People's Fair exists as a community celebration, and gives back to local non-profits through our Community Partners program, and through our CHUN Community Center. *************************************************************************************************************** Position Description: Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods, Inc. (CHUN) seeks 2-3 spring semester intern(s) to help plan and coordinate the 2014 CHUN Capitol Hill People's Fair, an annual large-scale arts & crafts and music festival the first full weekend in June. Interns will gain experience in event production, corporate sponsorship, marketing, public relations, and nonprofit management. While a wide variety of work will be necessary, interns are welcome and encouraged to focus on an area of specific interest to them. The Peoples Fair interns will work closely with the CHUN Staff and the People's Fair Steering Committee. Some of the specific areas of focus will be: assisting with the application and selection process for Peoples Fair artists, food vendors, musicians and non-profit vendors; assisting with P.R. and marketing duties such as helping to edit press releases and e-mail blasts, assembling and distributing press kits, distributing posters and fliers, making credentials and VIP passes, assisting in promotional events f or the Peoples Fair and other various tasks. Interns will also help manage our website and database for CHUN and the Peoples Fair, assist with social media postings, management of our blog, and assist in producing our monthly newsletter and bi-monthly e-mail blasts. In addition, the work load will include some administrative duties such as making copies, answering the phone, data entry, and research. Some physically demanding work will be required on-site at the Peoples Fair. The Peoples Fair interns must be available to work long hours the entire event weekend (June 7 and 8) including set-up days (June 5 and 6). Interns will also be expected to work the week after the Peoples Fair, to help with closing duties. The Peoples Fair interns will also attend some staff meetings, monthly planning meetings with the Peoples Fair Steering Committee, and serve as staff support for Peoples Fair meetings and events leading up to the fair. This position will afford the opportunity to learn all aspects of producing a major annual city festival. The opportunity exists to work with different city and state agencies, to meet and develop important contacts with people in the events industry, and to gain valuable experience in the planning, production, and promotion of an annual event which draws 250,000 attendees every year. We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic people who are able to work independently, work well in groups, and who are able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. A positive attitude and high energy are desired in our interns! Proficiency in MS Office is very important. Intern(s) must have access to reliable transportation and proof of up-to-date auto liability insurance.
