geometry factors for volumetrics estimation. Specifically, it: 1) eliminates manual drawing and planimetering of Area vs. Depth Plots, and 2) accurately calculates reserv oir volumes and geometry factors. How to Use 1) As with normal volumetrics work, first determine: a) minimum, median, and maximum gross reservoir thicknesses, b) minimum, median, and maximum hydrocarbon column heights, c) cumulative planimetered areas within prospective map contours, and d) depths corresponding to those contours. 2) Startup the "Area/Depth" Excel workbook which contains a "Prospect Volumetrics "spreadsheet and a macro sheet 3) Enter the Prospect Name/Location, the prospective horizon, then minimum, median, and maximum estimates for gross reservoir thickness and hydrocarbon column height. [The spreadsheet is protected so you can only enter values in the cells designed for data input 4) Advance to the area / depth cells and input the measured pairs for the prospective map contours (determined in step 1c). 5) As your area/depth data pairs are entered, all values are calculated and the Area vs. Depth Plot is drawn automatically. Y ou still have to sort the Gross Pay and Geometry Factors, and format the depth axis. This is done automatically by clicking on t he "Sort" and "Scale Plot" buttons in the lower right area of the spreadsheet. 6) Parameter Calculation Techniques The measured Area/Depth pairs (from 1c above) define the uppermost (Dtop) curve on the Area vs. Depth Plot. Slopes between successive Area / Depth input pairs are calculated as straight line segments from: Slope = m = (Dt2 -Dt1) / (Area2-Area1) The depth corresponding to "Zero" area is the "0" axis slope intercept of the line connecting the first two Area/Depth pairs: Dt0 = Dt1 - (m * Area1) Depths to Min, Med, and Max HC/water contacts (DHCon) are calculated from the HC Column (HCol) values relative to Dt0: DHCon= Dt0 - HCol Corresponding Area (Ax) values for intermediate Depth points (Dx) are calculated from the slope equation: Ax = m * (Dx -1-Dx) / Ax-1 The Volume under successive segments of the Area / Depth curves for the reservoir top and each bed thickness are calculated as the area of a parallelogram: Volumei = (Depthi-Depthi-1) * (Areai + Areai-1) / 2 Reservoir volumes are obtained by summing the successive parallelogram volumes under the reservoir top, and under each limiting bed thickness, down to the respective HCol cutoffs, and then taking the difference of those total volumes: ResVol(minbed/mincol) = Vtop - Vminbed ...etc. Bulk Volumes are determined as the product of each limiting bed thickness and the map area for each limiting HCol: BlkVol(minbed/mincol) = Thkminbed * Areamincol ...etc.
