Welcome to the community

The HumaNav concept takes its origins from an R&D project led by the French Space Agency (CNES), Novacom Services, the operational application program (UNOSAT) of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The initial objective was to measure the improvements brought by telematics and space technology to fleet management and security of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR). By understanding the operational needs of the aid and development community, UNOSAT and NOVACOM have come together to create HumaNav.

HumaNav has now become an operational service, including:

Success stories
The aid world is in an increasingly complex and dynamic state of evolution. There are calls from all quarters for rationalization, increased efficiency and more accountability HumaNav combines various space and terrestrial technologies to address the four principal needs of the participating organizations:

Environment

Reduced fuel consumption Lower CO2 emissions

The project resulted in an 11.7 % reduction in emissions, which is the equivalent of around 140 tonnes of CO2. We are confident that improvements were due to installation of GPS boxes Tim Moyle, Regional Logistics Coordinator, East Africa, OXFAM.

Security

Real time tracking & Geo-fencing Security alerts Direct messaging to/from vehicle
In the history of the organization, more UN Peacekeepers have been killed in road crashes than in combat Phil Scarr, Transport Officer, UNLB.

Efficiency

Improved fleet utilization Reduced kilometers travelled Reduction in fleet size

When we calculated the savings realized through recovered vehicles, lower fuel consumption, reduced maintenance cost and improved vehicle utilization, the figure came to more than $1,5 million in one year Martin Bettelley, former Head of Fleet, WFP .

Safety

Over-speeding monitoring Driver hours control Driver performance

Vehicle tracking is now paramount to the safety of our teams who work in risky environments. In the event of an incident, we can locate and track the vehicle in real time. Satellite communication means we also have permanent and fully global coverage. Cdric Breda, Triangle Gnration Humanitaire.
