Mineral Identification Report

_________We started the experience first then came back to the other questions_________. 1. State the problem (the objective in the form of a question). 2. Gather information. 3. Form a hypothesis. 4. Experiment! 5. Record and analyze data. 6. Form a conclusion. 7. Communicate results.

Rhodnite

Do you think the steps below of the scientific method must be followed in order? _No_, because

Now that you are done researching and identifying your mineral fill-in the information for each step of the scientific method below. Then, number which step was first, second, etc. Objective: Use the steps of the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral. Materials: -Mineral -Streak Plate -Word -Luster 1. Mr. Finan gave me a mineral. 2. We observed with our eyes 3. We compared with classmates 4. We did streak -Color -Eyes -Google Images -Google 5. We started looking it up online 6. We did a lot of research 7. We made a data chart 8. We presented them to the class

Procedure:

1. State the problem. (Hint: Just write the objective above in the form of a question.) How will I us the steps of the scientific method to identify a mystery mineral ? 2. Gather information. (Look it up and/or ask an expert) *see the attached Mineral Identification Data Sheet 3. Form a hypothesis. Write a statement that tells what mineral you think yours is (your two guesses). I think my mineral is Rhodnite and dolomite.

4. Start the experiment! (Follow the procedure.) 5. Record and analyze data.

*see the attached Mineral Identification Data Sheet 6. Form a conclusion. This must be a paragraph that includes:
An answer to the problem (question 1). How your hypothesis compares with the actual results. (Was your hypothesis correct? If not, how close were you?) A description of your mineral and what helped you find the identification of your mineral the most.

Type your paragraph here I used the steps of the scientific method to identify my mystery mineral. The following steps are what I used. First, I used the streak to find the color of my mineral inside. Next, I used cleavage and fracture. My mineral was Fracture, so that helped me find out my mineral. The hypothesis I guessed was Rhodnite, and it was correct. My mineral was also very heavy. Its color was pink, and its streak was whitish pink. My mineral was very rough. It was a little bigger than a golf ball, but smaller than a tennis ball. Its hardness was seven. What helped me was the color of my mineral. What also helped me was Mr. Finans websites he gave us. The website that was helpful to me the most was galleries.com/minerals. In the end, what helped me the most was Google Images.
