Pediatrics Department
The Pediatric Department of Ain Shams University was founded in 1947 in the Children's Hospital building, which
was built by Egyptian Society of child care.[1][2][3][4]

Heads of Pediatric Department

The heads of the Pediatric Department are the following:[5][6]

Late Professor / Hassan Shoukry: The first head of the Department

of Pediatrics - Ain Shams University (1947–1960) and was the first to
enter the dried dairy industry to feed children in Egypt.
Late Professor / Abdel Azim Alglmy: Chairman of the Department of
Pediatrics - Ain Shams University (1960-1968 AD) was interested in Old Photo of Obestitrics & Children's Hospital
celiac disease and liver metabolism in children. Established in his first Ain Shams University

research laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics - Ain Shams

University, as well as the unit of polio and genetics unit. Was the first Egyptian to receive a doctorate in
pediatrics from Egyptian University.
Late Professor / Abdul Ghani Alwshahi: Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics - Ain Shams University
(1968–1973). He was interested in child nutrition and malnutrition and is the first to enter the plant's milk and
weaning foods in Egypt.
Late Professor / Salah Awad: Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics - Ain Shams University (1973-1979
AD). Received the Medal of Science from its first class for his excellent researches in malnutrition and polio
disease . Made several expansions and development of the pediatric Department and neonatal unit, also
contributed to the establishment of the Association established the Ain Shams Egyptian medicine and the care
of children and issued the Journal of Pediatrics published periodically by the Assembly so far.

Children's Hospitals
There are two buildings the old building built 1933 and the new building under construction.

The old building

The Egyptian Society for child care built a hospital on a piece of land No.
1616 of beards of Waily. The society exchanged the land and the hospital by
a land in Sayeda Zeinab area to leave the children's hospital to be a part of
the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University. This was in 1952 to become
the hospital of pediatrics and gynecology/obstetrics. In 1986 became the
children's Hospital of the University of Ain Shams. Obstetrics and Maternity
Hospital moved to its new separate building.[7]

Under construction since 2005.

Hematology and Oncology Unit for children: founded by Professor

/ Ahmed Sami Khalifa in December 1974.It is a diagnostic therapeutic and training unit.[8]
Endocrinology Unit for children : The clinic was established in 1984. Founded by Professor / Mahmoud
Essawy and under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Salah Kholy. Dr. Mohamed Salah Kholy Chairman of the
Department of Pediatrics from 2008 to 2010.
