RESEACH METHODS IN LINGUISTICS RESEARCH METHODS SECTION 1.

Type of Study: Static-group comparison A group that has experienced some treatment is compared with one that has not. Observed differences between the two groups are assumed to be a result of the treatment - Quantitative Research Question: Does classroom setting have any impact on EFL learners learning process? If so, how does it influence this process? Research Hypothesis: By testing on two groups (a treatment group and a controlled group) the different classroom elements mentioned above, we will be able to determine if those factors have an impact on EFL learners learning process.

Objectives: General Objectives: 1. Demonstrate how classroom setting facilitate language learning 2. Take into account environmental characteristics and conditions that may have any influence over the language learning process. 3. Analyze the outcomes and, at the same time, relate them to the Chilean classroom settings.

Specific Objectives: How each of the following aspects affect the language learning process: Demonstrate how classroom setting facilitate language learning Take into account environmental characteristics and conditions that may have any influence over the language learning process.

Analyze the outcomes and, at the same time, relate them to the Chilean classroom settings.

2. Participants: Two fourteen-year-old classes of approx. 40 Spanish-speaking students each one (boys and girls) with a beginner level of English.

3. Materials: To measure the influence of the classroom setting on the participants there will be designed a pre and posttest to check if theres any difference.

4. Procedures: How exactly the tasks will be carried out: How the treatment will be carried out: How and when testing will be done: pre and posttest will be applied at the beginning and at the end of the course, respectively. It can include a Gantt letter.

5. Presentation of the Results: In this section of a research project, the results are presented with verbal descriptions of data that are also often displayed in charts, figures, or tables. Additional information about statistical results is also presented in the results section. SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) will be used. T-student Here you have to state how you are going to present your results.

6. Analysis of Results: In some research reports, the mode of analysis may be a separate section or may be included in the results section. It includes details about the scoring procedure you will follow. it provides information about the statistical procedures to be used.

7. Discussion/Conclusion: The discussion and conclusion are often two separate sections and are primarily interpretive and explanatory in nature. The main idea of the study may be restated and the findings summarized. Then, the findings are interpreted in light of the research questions and an explanation is attempted (perhaps with regard to findings that were contrary to expectations).
