LATIHAN 2 Spike Milligan: A Short Biography Spike Milligan called himself a clown. He was the master of the surreal, whose humour was anarchic, spontaneous and frequently unexpected. But his life was darkened by profound depression. He made his reputation in the 1950s in The Goon Show on radio. He originated the idea, wrote much of the zany fantasy in the program, and played many of the parts. Although his later career took in TV, films and novel writing, poetry, children's books, volumes of autobiography and even songs, he was irritated that he was still mainly associated with The Goon Show. Spike Milligan had dozens of books published, ranging from verse to works for children and novels. His first, Puckoon, published in 1963, about the partitioning of an Irish village, became a best-seller and spawned a film. When he wrote it, he had never been to Ireland. His next novel, The Looney, did not come out until 1987, but many of his earlier books were very successful, including several based on his wartime experiences, Adolf Hitler, My Part in His Downfall, Rommel: Gunner Who? and the later Where Have All the Bullets Gone? These war memoirs, mixing outrageous anecdotes with often moving passages reflecting the nature of conflict on individuals, struck a chord with people of all generations.

You will be given the local office number when you arrive so that you can contact a representative whenever you need to. Note: All our Representatives can speak the local dialect fluently.

Hotel Facilities All our North American hotels have at least a 4 Star rating. Minimum facilities at all hotels include: full maid service, en-suite bathroom, TV and refreshments in the room, day-time crche 5

and baby alarm listening service, indoor and outdoor swimming pools with each hotel having an excellent restaurant and snack bar inside the hotel. Passports and Visas A full five year or ten year Passport is required for holidays to North America and children must have their own Passport. All Passports must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. You will need to contact the American Consulate in London to request a holiday visa. Please remember to do this at least 6 weeks before your travel date we enclose the forms for this and a pre-paid envelope.

Airport Transfers When you arrive at the airport abroad, you will take delivery of the self-drive hire car, which is included in the cost of all our holidays. Directions to your Villa or apartment will be given to you. If you prefer to take a taxi transfer, both to and from your Villa, your self-drive car will be delivered to you the next day. If you require a taxi to be booked, you must tell your travel agent at the time of booking your holiday.

Do not be alarmed by the presence of armed guards at the hotel entrance. This is normal for all tourist hotels in most major cities in South America. Minimum facilities at all 3 star hotels include: en-suite bathroom, TV and refreshments in the room and restaurant inside the hotel. Please refer to the individual hotel descriptions for more exact details on your hotel.
