Tooth Eruption

Eruption of Teeth
Axial or occlusal movement of teeth (or teeth germs)
From Their developmental position in the jaw To

Their functional position in the oral cavity

Phases of Eruption
Pre-eruptive phase Eruptive phase Post-eruptive phase

Phases of Eruption

Phase
When it starts & ends Ongoing events Type of movement

Axial
movement

Types of Tooth Movement

Bodily movement Tilting (tipping)

Rotatory
movement

Occlusal movement in the direction of the long axis of the tooth

Movement around a longitudinal axis

Eccentric
Movement to one direction mesial, distal Buccal or lingual Movement around a transverse axis

growth
Shift of The center

Pre-eruptive Phase
Starts:
End of early bell
Beginning of root formation

Ends:

Jaw growth: In length In width In height

Movement of Permanent Teeth Anterior Premolars

Pre-eruptive phase

Pre-eruptive Phase
Permanent Molars

Maxillary molars in the tuberosity facing distally

swing with growth of the maxilla

Pre-eruptive Phase
Permanent Molars Mandibular molars in the base of the ramus facing mesially

tilt to be upwright with growth of the mandible

Eruptive Phase
Starts:
Onset of root formation

Ends:
Appearance of tooth in the oral cavity

Events:

Root formation Development of PDL All types of Development of movements dentogingival junction

Type of movement

ERUPTION PATH
GUBERNACULAR CANAL : As tooth predecessors erupt the successors tooth germs lie in their own bony crypt which entirely enclosed by bone except for a small canal known as GUBERNACULAR CANAL .

ERUPTION PATH
In

the anterior teeth ,these canals are seen in the lingual plate of bone

while

in premolars the canals are present in the crypt of the corresponding deciduous molars.

GUBERNACULAR CORD

The

Gubernacular canal contains remnants of dental lamina and connective tissue termed as Gubernacular cord.

3) Post- eruptive phase:

Begins.when tooth reaches occlusal plane

Endsat the end of life span of the tooth

Eruption Hematoma

Teeth at 6 years old

Crowded lower anterior teeth due to lack of space

Lower second premolar erupting under lower E

Full permanent dentition 2nd,3rd molars Un-erupted
