Notes from Ms. Allen:

I hope everyone enjoyed their time at the MES Fall Festival! I enjoyed watching everyone have fun with the games and activities, and I especially enjoyed watching Ms. Lucot and Mrs. Hancock kiss the pig! J Please check with your child to make sure they have sufficient pencils with erasers and 1 or 2 highlighters. Both supplies are used in class on a daily basis! Thanks so much!

What Were Working On:

Reading: In reading, we reviewed text structure and practiced identifying the main idea and
supporting details in a text. The students have worked hard to make sure that they use evidence from the text to support their answers to questions about a text. We have now moved on to discussing how an authors point of view and perspective play a role in the information they choose to include or omit from a nonfiction text.

Writing: In writing, students are working on editing, revising, and publishing their opinion
piece. Students have participated in peer conferences and group conferences with the teacher to receive feedback on their writing. This week, we will all produce typed final copies of our opinion pieces. I am looking forward to reading them!

Science: In science, we just finished learning about the cardiovascular and respiratory
systems, and we will be moving on to learning about the muscular and skeletal systems. Students have had the opportunity to participate in several learning experiences with Mr. Brady and Ms. Ferreira to enhance understanding of concepts in our human body systems unit. We enjoyed combining fitness activities with learning about the skeletal system as we put together skeleton puzzles with Mr. Brady on Friday.

Math: In math, we have completed our unit on using multiple strategies to multiply
decimals. Students have participated in a variety of math centers to practice different strategies for multiplying decimals. Several students have created Educreations videos to teach others the strategies they know and explain their thinking. Check out the videos students have posted under the Math At Home tab on our class website! We will have our common assessment on multiplying decimals on Tuesday, October 29th. using multiple strategies to divide decimals on Wednesday, October 30 .
